Giving a five star review to a utility company. Go figure! But I can tell you that their website is set up nicely. Their employees in the various departments are friendly, and in the middle of last years snowstorm when pipes were breaking all over the city, when I called to tell them one of my sewage pipes broke they were at my house in seven minutes to shut the water from the street off. I tried to do it myself but it was a new house to me and I didn't know where the water cover was. They couldn't see it either under the snow but they came prepared with a metal detector. We walked into our house last night to the smell of gas. I called city utilities and they had a technician at our house in 20 minutes. He found and fixed the leak. He then checked all the other connections in the house and left within half an hour. Amazing! Thanks for the prompt efficient service. I don't understand why such a big organization can't keep their power on down certain stretches of streets in this town. Seems like a little wind or rain has to fall and Lynn St west of Kansas has no power. My Cpap shutting down at 4am this morning woke me up and an hour later I was in the dark getting my generator hooked up to my sump pumps to pump out the basement. It's now 915am and still no power. I have not seen a CU truck down my road all morning. Are the lineman on vacation this weekend? This is getting very old. read more

Monopoly on utilities, extremely expensive, will reconnect utilities in a hot minute if you pay your bill after you've been disconnected, but if you call on Friday when you get off work and find a disconnect notice in the mailbox and call to set up arrangements they say the disconnect is already out for Monday (????) and they can't stop it...yeah ok. How about you all reevaluate that policy especially when it comes to a long time customer who has always paid and been in the same house for 20 years...thanks a lot. read more

It's just really cool that I never got to have any say in CU deciding to link us to the failing privatized power grid, but now my bill is twice as high. Power gets turned off after I miss one bill, and there's no way or place to know why. Nowhere on the website, no notification, no email, after repeatedly filing power outage reports every 15 minutes or so - it returns an automatic "its fixed! if it isn't, file another report" text message. When I finally called to find out it was, in fact, because of a missing payment, I asked "how am I supposed to know that? How do I know the date of turn off?" to which the employee responded "Oh, I don't know". What a joke, I hope your time is limited CU read more

This company is a Monopoly. They are the only the only providers in the city of Springfield with no competition in the market place. Through legislature, this is some how aloud by state law. I get paid on the 3rd and they auto withdrawal on the 1st. They wont let you change your billing date and they charged me a 100 dollar deposit, many months after service for disabling my auto pay. Without warning they shutdown the water. It's been 6 hours with out water. A lady that works for Springfield said that we will have water tonight and that tomorrow they are going to shutdown the water again. Since I don't have water to cook for my family now i got too spend money buying food out in town because of there negligence. They are fast to bill you,but not fast enough to fix any problem on there side . Let's see how long its going to be tomorrow. I had to select a star so i can post this but they suck. If I could give them negative stars I would. Absolutely the worst utilities company I've ever went through. We moved into our apartment June 20th and when I called to transfer utilities into our name the lady said we wouldn't get our first bill until August 24th. Now August 25th still haven't received our bill so I set it up online and I have a bill of $617 because apparently we have a past due bill from July... when I called to figure this out the lady was rude and tried to make it my fault because apparently I should've known I wasn't receiving a paper bill but I didn't know I already had a paper bill. She also wouldn't acknowledge that her worker told me the wrong date of when I would get the first bill so now I owe $600 within two weeks. But hey they took off a whopping $34 of my late fees. Still a fraudulent company. They return payments so they can slap you with a late charge. The add "0s" and don't remove them. They randomly calculate "other service charges"...and they do not care. This company is a disgusting abuse of power. They have this power because they are not an independent company and performance does not matter since competition is not allowed. I promise you that any positive review is from an employee. There are other complaints where people have said they added "0's" to there water usage and that is how it started with me. I had a disputed charge with them over that water charge and unfortunately a few months later I spent a significant amount of time in the hospital with my daughter. When we got home I had missed a single payment by a few days...because of this they shut me off and would not turn it back on unless I paid the disputed amount as well. So, fresh out of the hospital I had to pay $1300 just to heat my house in winter. During that time they did not call me and remind me that I missed a payment. They did not call me and tell me I would get shut off. I don't even know what to say, but if any lawyer is reading this for a class action lawsuit, I know plenty of people are wanting to sue, please contact me. I will gladly help burry this fraudulent company. read more

This is definitely the scammiest of utilities I've ever encountered... and they don't even offer trash services in this city, unless it's by a private company. They charge a base fee on EACH utility service regardless of usage, which totals $84.50. This is without your usage added on, mind you. This is more than my total utilities bills in 4 different states... and those cities also covered trash pickup. These base fees are supposed to be for services you don't use that month... but they don't care and just add it all together. So in one month, I end up with a utility bill, for a single person who is barely home with the temp set to 68... of $250. How anyone can afford to live here is beyond me, as this company is screwing everyone here and like most small towns, you don't have any other option. read more

Depends on what part of the city you live in. Unfortunately I live on the Northside off Kearney street. We lose power about once a month, and every time it storms. More frequently in the winter which is scary. The transformer was going out at my street connect and I complained several times in the winter as we would lose power and get unbelievably cold in the house. It had to go out about 4 times before they would replace it. 4 separate nights we woke up when it was below freezing outside and about 40 degrees in our house. If we were on the south side probably would have had to complain once. South side is more updated. They passed a city wide increase then updated a lot of south side utility lines to prevent outages. Meanwhile... My power went out 3 times in the last 24 hours. We get a lot of car wrecks, but then they chose the worst time to shut down the grid for a repair. Like Saturday around 8:30am. While the TV, washing machine, dryer, kids in the shower, cooking breakfast and getting ready, boom...all the power goes out for a little over an hour. Missed an Easter egg hunt for the kids because of it. If they had an electric phone message that would go out to everyone in our grid warning us, that would be helpful. We could plan around it, make sure our electronics will still function after it. I've complained multiple times, but get the same treatment. Then again, I'm a northsider. The north side has the largest grid with the most populated, south side grids are more broken up to avoid wide outages. Would be nice if they would modernize and update the Northside a little. That will never happen. read more

I have never been more disappointed in my life with a city utility. They give you inaccurate information on what they are going to do with your account. Once you have an any bank or credit card on file, they will withdraw what ever they want, and they do not inform you. I tried a proactive approach paying my deposit separate than my monthly bill, and they withdrew it with my automatic bill pay. My bank account was overdrawn like I didn't even pay the deposit. SUPER ERKED!! When talking with customer service they made it seem like I should've know it was going to happen, and no one told me. They could careless about being a paying resident or the wellbeing of how you try to manage your bank accounts. The customer service rep. basically was like sucks to be you. They didn't pay an overdraft towards my bank account, nor did they refund what is rightfully mine. The customer service rep. had told me I could leave a voicemail for a supervisor, I mentioned I was at work and couldn't continue to go in and out of my work space to settle this, I would've liked her help on this issue. She said my only choice was to talk with a supervisor and share with them my story to "help me feel better"!?... I communicated feeling better entails my bank account not being over drafted! I left a voicemail for a supervisor to call me back, I missed the call because I am at work and I see patients. No voicemail was left on my account. So, it is a game of phone tag! IF YOU HAVE A CHOICE DO NOT CHOOSE SPRINGFIELD CITY UTILITIES! They take your money and careless about what they do to you. read more

City Utilities is claiming that I used nearly 60,000 gallons of water last month in my single family home. During the numerous phone calls my wife and I have made, it is agreed that the amount of water that was used was very likely to not come from my home. We hired a plumber and confirmed that our home has no leaks. City Utilities is saying I am still responsible even though I did not use the commodity. I love how they can literally make up a bill, and demand you pay it or they shut your utilities off. I was also told the meter reader probably made a mistake with my April, May, June and July and under charged me so he's probably just making up for the usage in August. Keep a close eye on your bill as this scam of a public company is blatantly ripping people off with zero government oversight. read more

I have been with City Utilities for almost two years. I was new to the state and was able to set up my service and get started with one simple phone call! I have had a couple of small issues, but the customer service department was always available to help and have always addressed the issues in a timely manner. The website is a little troublesome at times and could use an update to fix the bugs, but I have always been able to pay my bill and report problems through the app which is very convenient. I live on the South end of Springfield and have not had a single electric outage in the two years that I have been in my home. My bill is a lot cheaper than it was in the state I lived in previously and my house is bigger here! Keep up the good work City Utilities, there are some of us using the services, who are capable of being pleased! read more

This utilities company does not even deserve a single star! I have been trying to set up new service and have been treated quite poorly. Their policies as stated verbally are not backed up in writing nor on their website. I rented a home but because the previous tenants had problems or did not pay ; they have treated me like garbage and refused to set up services without a written copy of the lease and demanded both parties be on the utility bill. The landlord had us sign a lease stipulating only one party's name be on the bill. It has been a week and we still have no services abd have been treated rudely to say the least. Also when you request a supervisor, there is none available, only a call back which still has not happened. City utilities of springfielf should improve their customer service to say the least and treat each person as an indivdual not like tye previous tenant. read more

I have dealt with several utility companies in my lifetime and honestly I have had nothing but great care shown by Springfield CU. I recently had a transformer leak in my yard. CU was quick to come check it, replace it, analyze the oil (it was benign) and come back out with the head of environmental, an arborist, and a man from Wickman's gardens to take care of removal of a damaged tree and surrounding vegetation and replace what was a volunteer tree with a lovely new store bought tree! Never once did I feel like I was rushed or stressed once I talked to someone about the situation. Tammy in customer service was empathetic and quick to relay to the appropriate department. Seems most people who complain complain about prices but having lived in several areas of the country my utility bill here is a wonderful surprise every month. read more

After being married for almost 4 years, they just decided to add my spouse to my account and said we owe fees from 2012 and have to put down a $250 security deposit for it. I recently acquired a local business and needed to transfer the utilities in to my name. There are forms to fill and they needed a voided check to do a direct withdrawal to avoid a hefty deposit SO instead of doing everything via email/internet I just decided it would be easier to pay them a visit. Upon leaving my house I googled the address and couldn't help but notice all the terrible reviews and horrible ratings they'd received. My initial thought was "Great. This is going to be a painful and awful experience." Much to my delight the opposite was true. From the nice girl at the help desk to the young lady who did the transfer for me everyone could not have been more pleasant and helpful. She even spent several minutes pulling up previous bills so I could know what to expect. I was very happy with my visit and it couldn't have gone more smoothly. I suspect people go in there with past due bills or their utilities have been disconnected and instead of taking credit for their own poor management they cast blame on the unfortunate souls having to deal with them. read more
