After the $21,000 was paid, Sam kept promising to come out to do the job but never showed up, responded multiple times to our calls with "I'll be there..." and yet never came. Took the money and ran. I've written a previous review about this vendor and nothing has changed. Their shoddy roof job caused the leak in a tenant's unit to the tune of over $500. They claim they would come out not only fix the leak at the roof that they didn't do so the first time, they said they would also repair the kitchen. Wouldn't you know it the day they were supposed to arrive they claimed to have had car trouble. What I realize is that when they post that they have taken care of an issue that a previous customer had a complaint about, and that they have taken care of it, it is complete untruth. I have reached out to these customers and they told me that this vendors has not resolved the issue. I have to say the guys of city wide roofing are truly amazing! I just moved to Chicago so i never really experienced roof damage due to weather conditions. But when I spoke with Sam he was so accommodating and he was helping me to understand exactly what my roof needed! I called a few different roofing company's and everyone gave me extremely high prices without reason. However I stumbled across City Wide Roofing and I'm so happy I did because they were all very informative; unfortunately my roof got destroyed from the huge rain storm we had back in late march but thankfully city wide was able to come by and give me an estimate very quickly. Our condo association used their services several years ago. At the time I wrote a glowing review. Basically, they installed some sort of coating to seal our roof and buy some time to save for possible replacement. They offered a three year warranty. Worked fine for three years with minor issues occurring at the end of the term. They came out and said they would do a re-coating and add three years to warranty. Fast forward to this year. Serious leaks every time it rains. They have totally ditched us. They don't answer the phone or respond to messages. On the few occasions they do answer, they make appointments they do not keep. We contracted Sam to fix our gutter that had broken off due to ice during the winter. While he did fix it and sent me photos afterward, which I appreciated, we had a variety of problems after that. Our insurance company reviewed our claim and said the repairs shouldn't have costed more than $1K. We were charged $4k. I attempted to contact Sam for nearly 8 weeks straight after that, asking for an itemized invoice for the insurance company so that we could get our claim approved. He disappeared from the face of the earth and would not respond. I had my husband call from a different number, and they answered right away, so it was clear they were avoiding us. While the repairs were completed in a timely manner, we have not been able to get a hold of them since. I don't recommend working with them. read more

UPDATE 2/27: Sam contacted me and came out the next morning to check out the issue we've been trying to get looked at. We've had a lot of snow this year so we will have to wait until some of that melts before the trouble area can be checked more closely but we are making progress and I appreciate his efforts. We will hopefully have the trouble area repaired later this week once the snow has melted down. UPDATE 3/4: After 2 days of saying they'd come back, again 2 days of no-shows and the trouble area still hasn't been worked on. I'm starting to think that I'm getting intentionally played with. I've been available, accommodating, patient, and willing to update this review if they would just show up. I don't even mind paying more if there's extra work to be done. Just show up, please! UPDATE 3/5: Sam came out finally today and said that the work was done. I updated my rating to 3 stars. The work seems ok but they could have saved us all so much time and hassle with a better scheduling system. I'm not sure what else to do at this point but to write a review. We had the roof of our entire building aluminum-coated along with repairs to flashing, coping, and several sections of membrane replaced in November 2019. At the time they were responsive enough. There were some cancelations and I had to chase after them a little but eventually, the crew came and did the work. They had to come out again and power wash the sliver coating they got on our deck which was also something I had to keep chasing after. They left some stuff on the roof and also in our parking area but the work on the roof seemed ok even though they were messy. We've gone a full year without any major issues so I will give them that. But they said there was a 3-year guarantee on the work and last week a section of the roof is staining a part of the ceiling inside so there is a leak of some kind. I reached out to them again and see if they could come to check it out. It's easy to get a response from a Yelp message or email but it is extremely difficult to get someone to actually come out when they say they will. Morning, evening, even scheduling a specific time and still a no-show. We have tried three different days that they said they would come. But when the day comes, not even a message or anything. Just ghosted on the day and then an apology the next day after I ask them what happened. Now I can't even get a response. It's extremely frustrating and it's how you lose reoccurring business and good customers. At this point, I would not recommend hiring this contractor until they can improve their scheduling and communication. I don't even mind waiting a few days or even a week. Just come when you say you'll come or reach out to me and reschedule if something has come up. I don't think that's too much to ask. read more

Good experience all around. We got a couple estimates to replace our garage roof and they fell right in the middle range but the price seemed fair and I liked that they gave a very specific and detailed estimate of what they would do. They came out in less than a week and had the work done in a day. Even went beyond the statement of work in our estimate and replaced some trimmings at no extra cost. They also had replaced the roof on our main house a couple years ago before we bought the place, and moved a downspout for us while they were out no questions asked. In light of COVID and the storms that pass through Chicago a couple of weeks ago, City Wide was about to connect with us and work within their schedule to fix 2 holes in our roof and a damaged gutter from a fallen tree. They responded quickly to our initial request, and when it came down to actually doing the work, they exceeded our expectations, even to trying to match our custom shingles. Although we were at the mercy of a few roofers, due to needing to get this repaired before the rain, we felt like the price was fair. They arrived in masks. They came prepared with the right tools to do the job, and their payment process was modern and seamless. While we hope to not need roofing anytime soon, if we do, we will be reaching out to them. read more

Day of the job, team did not show up . Next day, Sam showed up at 830am, then disappeared for 4 hours. He claims they were getting a ladder. I would recommend you being flexible with time or your work during the day as communication with CityWide was difficult. - After the work was completed, I did not get an assessment or pictures. I tried for a day to get information, and it took a yelp review to get a response and they are working to understand and provide information, which is appreciated. read more

I called Sam to get our gutter repaired/partially replaced. They left their work undone and although they came back to try to fix it, they never did it correctly. They didn't replace part of the gutter which was in the signed contract, which had been sagging badly and then created a new sagging area. Also, the part of the gutter that they replaced leaks badly at the joints. I called Sam many times to try to get him out again but he stopped responding altogether. That was about seven months ago. I paid him half his fee up front but didn't pay him the rest until the contract was completed. I am now in the process of hiring a different company to do the work. I called Citywide to get a estimate to replace the flat roof we have on our condo building. Sam came out and was upfront that we needed to replace. He gave us a quote a few days later. What I liked most was they would take up the deck to replace the roof and put it back down. Other company never sent me a quote and the other estimate the company wanted us to get someone else to remove and replace the deck. When they started, Sam had his guys take lots of photos and videos as the work happened. There was more damage then originally anticipated and he could have gouged us considering the position we were in. He did not and the extra cost was fair considering their 3 day project turned into 5 and the extra cost of material. After they we're done, one of the unit owners said they left rotten wood there. I called Sam and he picked it up soon after. I would recommend Citywide especially if you have a flat roof with a deck on top that needs taken up and put back down. read more

Then I read his terrifying reviews so told him that I changed my mind. He then called me back and asked what he should do with the check. Seemed at first to be a good company. Came out and quoted and completed work (although a little slow and a few "cancellations") but work was finally completed. I had asked that they re-pitch my gutters so that they flow to the front of the home, rather than rear. The work done on my north side gutter was fine. The south side gutter is another story. The gutter had a front and rear spout to begin with. They removed the rear (west) spout, but did not seem to re-grade properly as water builds up on the rear (west) side where downspout no longer exists. It would appear that they did not re-pitch at all, rather simply removed the downspout causing water pitched forward (east) to drain while water pitched back (west) builds up as it now has no place to drain since the downspout was removed. I reached out to them on Sept 8 (work was done a month or so earlier, but we really haven't had rain until then) and it took a couple emails to get a response. The response was stand-offish and to this day (October 20) they have not reached back out or made attempt to correct this issue - even though I emailed them at least 3 times. I would not recommend these folks as they clearly provide no support to their (poor) workmanship. Photo below if from Sept 8 during a relatively light rainfall. Our condo association had a sagging gutter that was causing some serious water issues to the lower units and given the heavy rains we've had, the basement units were at risk of flooding. Archie came out the day I called, sent the quote the next day, and started work the following week. His crew replaced a 43ft long run of commercial (8 inch galvanized) guttering and did the roof work that goes along with it. Work was done quickly and cleanly. I thought this matter was taken care of I can have a crew out Friday May 28, 2022 or Monday May 30, 2022 which was a holiday so I already new what the outcome would be. So we agreed on Saturday May 28, 2022 today is June 6, 2022 and my gutters are still hanging from my home. No one from this company has contacted me to see if the job was complete or not. The reason is because they know it wasn't. Maybe they believe in their head that by pacifying their customers into believing that repairs of any kind would be resolved the customer would eventually give up. I am not a person who gives up on anything especially when I feel like I chose a company who think they are going to scam me. That would be a negative. I've come to the conclusion that City Wide Roofing appears to think that people don't believe that what they are doing is wrong. Well what you're doing to your customers is absolutely wrong and shame on you.
