Needed my car picked up to be taken to a garage after the rear suspension failed, the garage recommended them. Quoted $225. Car has no back wheels on it because the rear suspension has failed. Quoted $275. Driver turned up an hour late, said he couldn't take the car without back wheels on, wouldn't drop it without paying $275 and when I called to ask if I could get a refund the manager told me I'd already paid so why would he do that? It happened to me that the police called me a towiGn on the xkje34 license plate and the driver told me $255 and he didn't give me a receipt. I haven't dealt with this company as far as towing, but I did run into an encounter tonight where my pregnant girlfriend and I were on rt 20 coming home and was nearly ran off the road by one of City Wide Towing drivers. When I pulled up to the front cab I can see that the driver was texting. I managed to get the phone number off the passenger side door. When I called the company and explained what happened, the rep speaking on the City Wide Towing behalf stated that the driver may have been on the phone with a police officer. He said they get alot of dispatch calls from the police. He then asked me if he was on the phone with the police, like I would have known that answer. I said the phone wasnt to his ear it was in his hand texting. That would explain the reason he almost ran me off the road. The rep from City Wide showed know empathy, he just didnt care. Had an accident in Mahwah and this company showed up as the police-dispatched tower. Asked them to take my car one mile down the same road to my regular mechanic, Bergen Tire, but the driver demanded cash payment and refused when all I could offer was a credit card. He took my car to their shop 25 mins in Ridgewood and then would not let me get my personal effects from it, stating the shop was closing for the night. I had to call the Ridgewood police to the scene. Yesterday, I received a letter from the NJ Attorney General, Office of Consumer Protection, in response to the complaint I filed, informing me that the company paid a fine and entered into a consent order agreeing to change their business practices. Last night at around 9:49pm the tire broke on my brother car. We started to read the manual, and YouTube how to change a tire on our own. By 10:41pm two very nice police officers from the Ho-Ho-Kus Pd came. They looked at the one tire and decided to call this towing company. At 10:51pm the towing company arrived on the scene and at 10:52pm he charged my card 76.67 to remove the tire. He hasn't even looked at the car yet, but he has already charged my card. The man Jake did not have an automatic drill to get the lugs off so in front of both officers he told me "I am going to cancel the transaction and give you a refund, because I cannot get the lug nuts off". Jake should have come equipped with all that he needed to change a tire. Jake left us on the side of the highway with the police. We proceeded to get in the police car and he helped get the car to a near by gas station. Once at the gas station my brother and I begin to get the lug nuts off ourselves and remove the tire. We didn't understand how this man was supposed to be a professional but couldn't get a lug nut off of a car, and I am but a young girl and clearly had no issue doing it. The police officers watched us get the lug nut off and he called the towing company back. The two officers gave me their number and the tow truck company because they said to call them if there is any trouble and make sure my money is returned to me. The same man (Jake) came back at 12:38am, by that time we already got the lug nuts off and kicked the tire off of the car. Jake saw that and used our jack to lift the car up so he can move the tire to the side. After that he screwed on the new tire with his hands and left. He did not tell me he is going to cancel the refund nor did he tell me he kept my card information. Jake came and did nothing near 76.67 worth of work. After Jake left my brother and I fixed the lug nuts because they were not on tight at all and could have resulted in us flying off the highway. We proceeded to come home to NYC. July 6th at 11:35am I called the towing company because my money wasn't on my card. Not only did the woman who answer the phone have no recollection of the man ever coming out there it didn't seem as if it was on file at all. She then gave the phone to her manger Frank who was very rude to me and begin to yell. His excuse was "I am hard of hearing". Frank told me Jake came out 3 times which isn't true and that he was not going to give me a refund when the refund was put in last night. So therefore Jake lied to me and my family and 2 police officers about what he did when he made that phone call to his base. At 11:42am Frank called me back and said he spoke to Jake and Jake said he used his jack to change the tire. Jake neglected to mention that he promised me a refund and that my brother and I did everything and he did nothing. Frank and Jake of the city wide towing company robbed me of 76.67 and he is not willing to refund me. When I called the lady back to get everyone names she laughed at me for telling her that I have to sue them for this she said "for 76 dollars hahahaha". For some reason they seem to think I am a 35 year old grown woman. I am a college student who is trying to do something for myself I do not have a lot of money and that 76.67 that she thought was so funny was supposed to last me two weeks so I can eat and get to and from school. I picked my car up first thing in the morning and was charged 339$ . 125$ Tow 75$ Labor 90$ 2 day storage, even though my car was left there less than 24hours , 35$ Admin fee ...plus tax. The place is a scrap yard ... The receptionist was rude and obnoxious ... I ended up calling another tow company to get my car from them . The only joy I got from this experience , was watching the receptionist and a driver fight and show their true professionalism . Plus it was cash only !! Absolutely ridiculous !!! Recently I was in a car accident and my car was totaled on Rt 4 west by the forest ave exit. A driver of another car turned right into me when I was in the exit lane. My car came to a stop on a grassy area by the Sprint Strip Mall. Hit right into the sign, stop just in time from hitting too hard. Lucky for me my airbags had no need to deploy and my small son wasn't harmed. The driver of the tow truck called my the local police department could not have been nicer and more reassuring. He put my car on the truck first so I could promptly leave with my son and father (who came to get us). He gave us his business card. This company is awful. My son who is a senior in high school got in an accident the other night. City Wide towing is the company who came to tow his vehicle. By the time I got there, the car was already loaded onto the truck. As soon as they pulled away, my son realized his backpack was in the back of his car. I called the company immediately to try and get it. I realize it was our mistake, but my son was understandably shook up after the accident and not thinking clearly. They were so nasty and lied about where the car was taken and told there was nothing that could be done until they opened the next morning at 9 am at which point I would have to wait until 9:20 for them to figure out the billing of what I would have to pay to get his backpack. When I went and picked up the car the next afternoon, the bill was $306 which was towing from Paramus to Ridgewood (I was originally told the car was towed to Hawthorne) and I was other fees including 2 days storage at $40 per day. They didn't even have the car for 24 hours. Very unpleasant people and an unpleasant experience all around. read more

We called back after we realized what he had done then William cursed me and my fiancee out for almost 5 minutes and kept saying the call was going to be recorded so everyone will know what you did. William also made us feel extremely unsafe by telling us to come down to City Wide Towing so we can fight. William made our extremely difficult situation worse and he also called "belligerent fools." I am a full time college student who took an entire day off school and I started the process at 12 pm and right now at 9 pm someone from another towing company who made me feel reassured and taken care of handled the towing of my car in less than 2 minutes. The lady who answered the phone was very nasty. I said hello my name is ... and I was told you would be coming to tow me to the dealership. I wanted to check the status. She rudely answered me and said"we told your insurance it would be 90 minutes. If it's a problem and you can't wait call them back" I waited another 45 minutes no word from them. I called my insurance company back they reached out to citywide the same dispatcher was really nasty and told her their truck broke it would be another 45 minutes at least. My insurance called another company they showed within 20 minutes. I refuse to give my money to someone so rude. Thank god for my insurance company and Jan's Med A Care Service. I was charged $500 for a mile and half tow, and afterwards my mechanic said that this tow was not even necessary as car could have been driven out. OK that was the police's call, but when I called City Wide for someone to explain the exorbitant charges, after numerous phone calls, dealing with rude employees, I was finally transferred to the owner, Frank, who was also rude and dismissive.
