Guide & Audio Issues The main guide's microphone and speaker setup was extremely poor. The mic was held far too close to her mouth, causing distortion and making her very hard to understand. Multiple guests repeatedly asked her to move it away just so we could hear clearly. This issue persisted and significantly impacted the experience. Bus Conditions The bus was uncomfortably tight, with seats so close together there was virtually no personal space--you were forced to be in constant contact with the person next to you. It genuinely felt like being herded. Additional issues: * Very poor air circulation * No bathroom on board * No Wi-Fi * Interior lights left on during travel, making it difficult to enjoy or even see the scenery outside Tour Management & Professionalism Within the first 30 minutes of the tour, we were already being pushed about tipping, which felt premature and inappropriate given the circumstances. On the return trip, the guide slept for much of the ride, which felt unprofessional. Positano Stop - Lack of Transparency This was one of the biggest frustrations. Approximately 95% of stores and restaurants in Positano were closed, and the guide was aware of this in advance but did not share that information before departure. Had we known, many of us would have reconsidered whether this tour was worth the long travel time. What Worked The on-site guide in Pompeii,, was absolutely excellent--knowledgeable, engaging, and passionate. He was the highlight of the entire day and deserves real praise. The bus guide was essentially limited to counting people and making sure we got on and off the bus, with very little added value otherwise. Overall This tour has great potential, but poor execution, uncomfortable transportation, audio issues, and lack of upfront honesty about conditions in Positano seriously detracted from the experience. They gave us an option to cancel or change to a private tour. We chose the private tour, then David our guide and Roman, our driver were assigned. Pick up was promptly at 730am as promised, we headed out in a Mercedes wagon. The drive was about 2.5 hrs to Normandy (bathroom break scheduled 1/2 way) and we made small talk until about an hour out when David began his history lesson. He was well versed and kept our interest all day. We toured museums, watched videos, read journals, discussed artillery, uniforms, equipment, photo exhibits, toured bunkers, monuments, beaches and the second largest military cemetary all while reflecting on the magnitude of this event in history. Worked in a nice lunch in a small town. David and Roman's impeccable timing allowed us to basically walk into a museum and enter a show moments later. We were also able to catch the lowering of the dual flags ceremony in the evening at Omaha cememtary. The day was well planned, informative and though long, was not overwhelming. Each stop allowed us to visualize all of the important pieces that put the D day campaign together. The ride back was about 3 hours and also included a break 1/2 way through. We used this company to do the Loire Valley Castles Day Trip from Paris with Wine Tasting. It was ran like a well-operated machine. Our two tour guides told stories about where we were going and kept us engaged before allowing a little nap time. The first stop was a beautiful castle used in outside scenes for the movie "Beauty and the Beast" also known as Chateau de Chambord. It is an indescribably beautiful castle. We then headed to our next stop which included lunch on your own and the chance to see another castle from the outside only (or you could pay extra to go in but there was not much time). There were plenty of places to get lunch in the quaint little town of Blois. After lunch we headed to Château de Chenonceau, which is where the wine-tasting was done. This is also a very pretty castle that sits in the middle of a river. It also has very beautiful gardens. The tour guides were great about making sure we were all on the bus and even waiting or going to round up wayward guests. We were returned to our meeting place and the guides were good about helping guests find the right train to take to return home. read more

We left to go there with time but our uber was stuck in traffic. It's a vague meeting point look for someone in blue, there's 1000 people in blue. At 2:34 I called them they said the tour had started. I know that's crap from the meeting point to the tour entrance would take 5 minutes at least. They kept putting me on hold my call took 15 minutes. They offered to rebook for $25 a person another day, which we don't have. They do not give you the tickets the guide has them. They said there was no way to catch up to the group, yeah they have my Ticket. I truly think this is a scam. My wife is a little nicer than me she emailed asking for a refund, no answer so tomorrow I'm disputing it with my credit card company. We did tour with this company for Eiffel Tower. We booked the 2nd floor and summit option. The tour guide was knowledgeable and able to provide an overview of Eiffel Tower and Paris, too. The tour stops on the second floor, which is fine. It's definitely expensive than you buy tickets yourself, but getting tickets online is challenging. The tour, in my opinion, was okay. read more

During the tour of Jonh to Normandy in July 29 I was trying to quietly translate for my mother, who doesn't understand English. After arriving to Normandy the guide accused me of not letting him "think" because I was whispering during his explanation, we are not that close to him anyway. Even after I offered to speak more softly, he asked me and my family to move to the back of the bus, which felt humiliating and completely unnecessary. At the end I gave my mom my headphones and she watched a movie while the rest of the tour enjoyed. I felt horrible. His attitude was unprofessional and lacked empathy toward people who simply need language assistance to understand the tour. This behavior ruined our experience and made us feel excluded and uncomfortable. I would not recommend this tour for anyone traveling with elderly people or those who need translation support. Basic respect should be guaranteed for all travelers and this is actually discriminatory. read more

We called since we got lost and missed the firat part of the tour and asked if we could meet at Versailles for the second part of the tour since we paid extra and they said yes and to meet in feont of Louis 14 statue at 330pm. We got to the statue at 3pm and at 330pm called back and spoke to another representative and she was rude and told us the tour came at 155 to Versailles and they couldnt help us. We told her that we were told to come at 330 and we had paid to uber and she basically said oh well nothing she can do for lack of communication on their part and didn't care they we would not use this company again. We toured the Louvre with City Wonders and had a fantastic experience. Initially we booked the tour to skip the endless line to enter. Our tour guide, Hamish, was a delight to follow and learn from, and the use of earpiece to hear him tell us all about the art as we toured was genius. Our tour hit most of the famous pieces and left time at the end of our day to venture on our own if we felt compelled to see more. Hamish did an incredible job telling us stories about the history of pieces as well as explaining the ​art techniques used, bringing a valuable experience to everyone in our group. He did such a thorough and efficient job touring us, we left directly from the tour, feeling that experience was one of our best during our stay in Paris. read more

I went on many tours throughout my stay in Paris through City Wonders, which is why I am writing a long review specific to each tour we did with City Wonders. I did the Dark Heart of Paris when I landed which was basically a "ghost tour" and it was decent. I would've appreciated more stories that were darker, because it seemed that our scariest story was about the amount of rats in Paris. It would've been more enjoyable if it were dark stories about what people did with all these rats (like the title presumes) for us to enjoy the tour more. This tour I would specifically give a 2.5/5. The next tour I did with City Wonders was the Museé d'Orsay. It was a decent tour, but our guide forgot his ID so we could not get headsets, which caused hearing issues throughout the whole tour. He did make it up by extending the tour which was nice. I do wish his tour was more throughout the highlights of the museum rather than just Impressionism. We spent our whole time in this section, when there is so much more of the museum to see. I would give this tour a 3.5/5 I did the Louvre tour next and it was excellent. The guide was ready to leave promptly and I felt like she addressed the majority of the museum in an efficient, yet thorough matter. The only complaint I have is that we ended the tour a little early and I would've appreciated if we went to another part of the museum. I give this tour a 4/5. I also did the Eiffel Tower with CityWonders, and this was probably one of the worse tours you can do with them. I recommend buying the ticket yourself because I don't think the guide is worth it. All he did was do skip the line for the elevator, but we still had to wait 20 minutes for it and he did a very brief tour once we were on top about information that was already explained on previous tours. I think it was pointless to get a guide. We still ended up waiting to enter the surroundings and get on the elevator for about an hour which is what it probably would take a person without a guide. This one I would give a 2/5. The next tour I did was Normandy. This tour was also great. The tour guides (Sam and Thelma) were amazing and the stories they told on the way to Normandy were interesting. Lunch was also provided which was a huge plus. My only complaint is I wish we left Utah beach a little earlier than before so we could've had more time at Omaha beach. Overall this one was a 4.5/5. I also did the Loire castles and wine tour and we got to have Thelma again as our tour guide. It was very nice to see a familiar face. Lunch was not provided on this tour which was disappointing but I really enjoyed all the history in these castles. I would give this tour a 4.25/5. The last tour I did with City Wonders was Giverny and Versailles. Our tour guide arrived 7 minutes late from the start time and began to talk to the check in helpers for 3 more minutes when he was already late. This was a frustrating start...but James was hilarious and made the tour much more interesting! It is definitely easier to listen to humor than a lecture which I appreciated. We switched tour guides at Versailles and Carolinas was a very good tour guide. She was informative and thoughtful throughout the tour. I felt like I had too much time at all of these places which was a little frustrating but it wasn't too bad. I would rate this tour a 4.5/5. I took the average of all my reviews to give City Wonders their final review (about 72% or about 3.5/5). Overall, big piece of advice is day tours with City Wonders are worth it, and a couple hour tours I would probably recommend doing with someone else. read more

We joined a morning tour with City Wonders and arrived on time at the meeting point, but the whole experience was a disaster. The address they provided was wrong, and the guide was nowhere to be seen -- standing in a dark corner before sunrise instead of being visible to guests. We called for help but no one answered, so in desperation we texted them while standing in the middle of a dark, busy crossing. Only after that did we get a reply, but by then it was too late to find the bus. As first-time visitors, we tried our best to follow instructions, but there was no clear direction or timely support. Instead of taking responsibility, City Wonders blamed us and asked for €25 per person to rebook at a date that we already left Paris and refused to refund. For a tour costing €250, this level of service is unacceptable. It wasted our time, travel cost, and ruined an entire day in Paris. We did the tour of the Loire Valley Castles (full day)! It was great!! Our tour guide, Ami (which means friend), was amazing! He had great energy and was providing insightful information about all the places we visited. He also was great about expressing to the group the importance of time, which made everyone be back at the bus on time and ready to go. He gave us great tips and things to look for which kept the group engaged with both him and each other. He provided food recommendations at all places we stopped at, and was open to all questions that even didn't pertain to the tour. The tour itself consisted of 2 Castles, a rest area on the way there/and back, as well as a lunch break (with a vast variety of restaurants to choose from). There was also an opportunity to visit a 3rd castle if you wanted to forego lunch, which we did not choose to do. I highly encourage this tour specifically as we got to see a good amount of castles and Ami made it fun and exciting! read more

I wish that there was a rating lower than one star. We reserved a guided group tour of the Louvre for July 2 in April. At 14:30 on July 1, I received a text message and an email to contact City Wonders urgently. Our tour was cancelled because the guide cancelled last minute. The person we spoke to offered us a tour on July 15. We were leaving on July 8. I explained this and asked to speak to a manager. I was given an email address to write to. I sent an email and got an automated reply that it would take up to 48 hours to get a response and was given a phone number to call. I called and was connected to the same person who couldn't help me. On July 2 we went to the Louvre but the lines were ridiculous. At 13:00 someone called from City Wonders and said that the tour had been cancelled because of protests after a recent police shooting. We called bullshit on that and told him that we had walked by the Louvre and all was well. Someone else emailed us later that day and said that the tour was cancelled due to unavailability of the guide and offered us a tour on July 12, four days after we were scheduled to leave Paris. I don't think our problem was ever escalated to management. Amazing incompetence with no contingency plan and a total failure to to make things right aside from multiple people saying that they were sorry. I can't recommend this tour because of the tour group that runs this -- Wonder City Tours. I have booked through Viator before and have not had any issues. This time, after checking and re-checking how to get to the meeting point and getting there well ahead of time, I was told my booking was for one person instead of two. I had booked it a month in advance and my voucher from Viator clearly stated two adults, paid and confirmed. The Wonder City Tours representative was rude and aggressively informed me that my booking was for one, despite what she clearly could read herself on my booking confirmation. She told me I needed to call Viator because they had made a mistake and paid only for one person and we couldn't go on the tour. At this point I got very upset. This trip to Paris had been planned for nearly 2 years. I was travelling with my 84 year old mother, whose dream it was to see and experience the Eiffel Tower. It was her first trip to France. I explained this to the representative and her response was that it wasn't her problem, Viator had made a mistake. And she told me patronisingly to calm down. I pointed to the $212AUD I had paid, getting increasingly agitated. Finally she took a screenshot of my confirmed 2 adult booking and sent it on as I tried to get hold of Viator on WhatsApp. She came back a few minutes later and said that her company was not going to charge me anymore money and instead were going to "let" me come on the tour for free because Viator had only paid them for one person. That see? I needed to calm down because they were not going to charge me more money, even though they had not been paid for two people. I call this a lie. Which was later confirmed by Viator on WhatsApp, who texted me that indeed I had a paid booking for 2 adults. I will never make a booking with Wonder City Tours again. The representative was unprofessional, rude and had no ability in customer service. Instead of reading the situation and calmly working through the problem, the first thing she tried to do was bully me into accepting only one of us would be able to go on the tour. The incident left me nearly in tears. The tour itself was fine. The guide was enthusiastic and waited for the whole group to catch up. I did not learn too much more than I already knew about the Eiffel Tower and Paris, but that's ok. My mother and I ended our Eiffel Tower trip by having lunch in the restaurant on the first floor. It was a lovely experience and at that point I was truly able to enjoy the tower after its awful start. The wait staff were wonderful and the food was good. But I don't recommend booking with Wonder City Tours. They really need some help in training their staff in courteous customer service. read more

There was nothing wrong with the tour, BUT: After we stayed on the second floor after the end of the official tour and then wanted to queue at the elevator around noon in order to get to the top of the tower individually as planned (part of the ticket price), it was closed, as was the waiting area for queuing. A number of tourists had the same problem and were looking for access to the lift. When we finally found an employee of the tower, he simply said, "It's closed until at least 3:30 p.m.," without giving any reason. We then noticed that a number of employees had put on vests and gone on strike (including banners and slogans). Another employee confirmed to us that this was the reason for the interruption of the trips. I called City Wonders straight away and explained this and asked for the promised partial refund in such a case, which I was assured of over the phone. Since then, however, they have been trying to avoid a refund and claim that there never was a closure as described. A long discussion and further attempts to explain the situation brought nothing. You have no chance to get heared and the company simply cheats you out of expensive money. Instead of going to the Eiffel Tower Summit, we went one hour later to the viewing platform of the Tour Montparnasse. From there we discovered that not a single person was visible on the summit of the Eiffel Tower (see photo). And City Wonders still claims that there was never such a temporary closure of the summit and that all the groups were all able to go up. If I had discovered all the other bad reviews on the various portals earlier, I would never have booked with City Wonders.This company is a scam. Never again City Wonders! read more

Please save your $170 and run from this horrible company! I had booked this combo tour, the first part was ok - Giverny, our tour guide Sam was good, and mostly gave us information on the bus. When we got to Giverny, he showed us the map, but then we explored on our own for about 2.5 hours. We got back on, went to Versailles, and he handed us over to another company. This is where the problems started. Our tour guide for Versailles (name was Cistern) was horrible!! First we waited outside at least 30-40 mins in hot sun, many groups ahead of us, and even groups that were late went in front of us. She didnt stop them or speak up, and we just kept standing there. After we got in, she talked 30 mins just at entrance, again many groups were passing, and we had this happen repeatedly so much at every stop, many groups passed us again. We didn't technically finish Versailles because she talked too much. We had to stop as we had one hour left to see the Gardens and get back to the bus. No time to really see the Gardens, just a quick walk around, no time for boutique or restaurants either. I regretted booking the tour. This tour was about 5 times more than if I had bought a ticket directly. I would not recommend anyone take the Versailles portion. Also, it was so overcrowded and instead of helping to keep the flow going, I had so many push and hit my back to pass us. It wasn't enjoyable. I wrote to the company and they said all of this inconvenience was worth 10% or $17 as a refunded. This alone shows me they don't care nor understand the customers experience. read more

The walk to the tower was jam packed with info about why Paris is the city of lights. The construction of the Eiffel Tower. Why it was built and what she now represents. Yes, I called her a she. This was also brought out on our tour, The view was breathtaking and the breeze was absolutely refreshing. (Considering we were there during the heart wave 107 degrees) My only regret was although we took the tour late at night the top had closed. We went to the first floor. We had a semi-private (12 people or less) tour of The Louvre. Unfortunately one member of the tour couldn't follow directions and got lost at the group meeting area (there's free bad and coat check, and water is permitted in the museum) inside the louvre, so we lost 10 minutes there. Our guide Tinu was able to make up time and keep us informed and moving so I never felt like I missed anything. She was so passionate and loved sharing the history as well as artistic techniques. I enjoyed the use of headsets; I didn't need to stay huddled up in the group, but could stray a little to get a better angle of the piece we were looking at and never felt like I was going to be left behind because I could always hear the guide. At the end of the tour Tinu was so sweet and directed my husband and I to a different part of the museum so we could find some items that weren't part of the tour, giving us more tour guide information along the way. I'm so glad to have booked a tour to see the Louvre, it helped put the art in context and get us through there without getting lost! read more

I would give 0 stars if possible. I went on 6/30/24 and it was an absolute disaster. To begin we get on the bus and they let us get 2 hours down the road before they tell us that the boat to Amalfi is not working. They said that the previous day there had been a strike with the boat workers. So they couldn't convince me that they didn't know we were going to run into issues the next day. They had this planned and were just hoping that we would accept their lackluster plan B of going to Sorrento. So the people on the bus complained and the guide Sonja said that she was going to try to get us at least on a boat to Postiano from Sorrento. So we get to Sorrento and we have a rushed lunch at a super expensive place (at least is was good). Then we meet back up only for Sonja to tell us that she could not even secure to boat to Postiano. Then she says we only have less than 2 hours in Sorrento. Sorrento doesn't even have a free beach you have to wait in a long line and then pay 15-20 euros to even get to be able to go in the water. Which I did because I was not going to let my day be completely ruined. I only got to spend about 45 minutes in the water before rushing back up the hill to meet back up to go back to Rome. We spent 6-7 hours on the bus in heavy traffic (which I do recognize was not the tour companies fault). Then Sonja had no ability to read the room and was trying to get us to dance the YMCA on the way back with a bus full of angry people (not even lying... so bizarre) which just made me even more mad. The other thing that was simply not ok was Sonja's treatment of a Japanese lady on the bus who had trouble understanding. She maybe thought she was helping but she was downright aggressive with that poor woman. She kept offensively calling her Japonese and complaining to other people the woman couldn't understand her. She then started yelling at her in Italian because she couldn't understand. The lady was visibly upset to the point of crying. When we got to Sorrento Sonja grabbed the Japanese lady by the arm and led her and I can tell she was uncomfortable. The lady got off in Sorrento and I hope she was able to at least get on the boat like we were not able to. The treatment of that lady made me sick to my stomach honestly. I hope she is ok. On the ride home along with the terrible YMCA incident Sonja kept telling us to not leave her a bad review because it wasn't her fault about the boat. True. But your attitude toward everyone is your fault and it was awful. She was extremely rude to me when I asked her a question about a meetup spot. She obviously didn't understand English very well which was a lie on City Wonders part that they had "expert guides who spoke English". The other thing was that I overheard some other passengers talking who had a brother who went to the coast because the boats were in fact working. So I think this was a huge scam to see if they could get away with it. I just thank the people who made a big fuss on the bus because I think that is the only reason we are getting our refunds processed (and thank you to the person who I saw recording every time they spoke on the bus). They should have told us in the morning it was not happening (because it was clear from the get go it wasn't) and gave us our refunds so we could have had our day in Rome. In all it was a long bus ride with a stop to a limoncello factory that no one even cared about and we got a small lemon soap as a consolation prize. Do not book this experience and if you do proceed with caution. You are better off catching the train and booking your own ferry ticket. And Sonja needs some training on how to deal with people if she is working in hospitality. Also there is a place they let you get off for a "pit stop" that is literally highway robbery. 16 euros for a cheese and tomato sandwich, small bottle of water, and can of sprite. This is obviously just a huge cash grab so if you risk this experience then bring your own food unless you don't care about overspending. The only positive I will say is the bus driver did his best to get us back to Rome despite the traffic. But when we got back the subway lines were down and I had to pay for an expensive taxi back to my hotel. This was a gut wrenching experience and the only reason I came to Italy was for Amalfi. I don't know if and when I can come back but when I do I am going to just book my own stuff and not rely on any tour companies anymore. Citywonders should be ashamed. Booked with City Wonders for an Eiffel Tower skip-the-line tour. We arrived promptly on time with our fully paid group of seven, only to find that we had been left behind by our tour guide. We waited a few minutes and asked another guide company if they had happened to see our group and they said yes, they had, and clearly left us behind. How does a guide forget to bring seven of her group along? I waited at the base of the tower with our group of seven- and called the agency only to be told the guide wasn't picking up her phone. The manager acknowledged that the guide usually called to let them know that people were missing, but hadn't done so this time. As a result, we were unable to use our pre-purchased tickets (the guide had them in her possession when she left without us) and our only option was to call for a refund (which City Wonders did not want to help with), stand in line for multiple hours at the tower for new tickets, or to leave without the tour. We sadly were forced to leave without completing the tour. There are many wonderful guide companies in Paris to choose from. read more

This is for Gabriella! I have truly never met such an incredibly hostile and rude woman. She came 10 minutes late, and completely disregarded my group. I asked her such a simple question and she replied with "ya sorry I don't know". I cannot describe how patronizing and cruel she was..... someone in the group finally said something and acknowledged her behavior. After months of planning our trip to Paris where all I wanted to do was see Versailles, the day had arrived! We made certain to arrive at the meeting location plenty early before the 8:30am designated time. The City Wonders representative appeared and we introduced ourselves. He then informed us the trip was canceled. How could that be we asked incredulously? Others started arriving and they too were in shock. The representative did not know and offered up a phone number for me to call. The office did not want to take my call but preferred texting. According to them, the guide canceled. Not just that, but there was obviously no bus ordered for our tour and they were going to have us take the train. So, we were advised to take the train and buy tickets there. We took the 45-minute train ride, found our way to Versailles only to discover tickets were sold out! I had been planning this trip for months and without any forewarning it was gone! No email, phone call, nothing! I am beyond disgusted with the inconsiderate way we were treated and will never use nor recommend this company to anyone. read more

A very disorganized tour company. On our tour of Giverney and Versailles, the guide in the bus could barely speak English and only spoke in elementary cliches. When it came time for the Versailles tour, the rest of the group coming from Paris was delayed so we missed at least a half hour of the tour. The guide, while knowledgeable was scattered and difficult to understand. Overall, a very disappointing experience. read more

Hamesh was an amazing, knowledgeable, and entertaining guide on our tour of Paris Pere Lachaise Cemetery. His ability to be engaging and educational made the tour personal and we were able to ask questions and interact and participate in the experience. read more

Do NOT do the city wonders tour for the eiffel Tower. we bought tickets as a way to have tickets online and get to the top. However, they're so over priced it's ridiculous and we didn't even bypass the line. I saw her purchase the tickets as we got to the front. Also, we took the stairs which only costs about $6 for kids and yet they charged us $55 per KID! Just buy your tickets when you get there and save the $$. Sure you learn stuff about the Eiffel Tower but nothing you can't read on google. read more

AVOID AT ALL COSTS Myself and 6 others turned up 25 minutes early to the meeting point and the guide had left without us. Customer service were TERRRIBLE, simply told us they could not get hold of the guide and to email for a full refund (bear in mind this cost me and my boyfriend £110!!) I emailed customer service and they replied with a snotty email stating it was our fault we did not see the guide (despite being at the meeting point on the email early) and that they will not issue a refund. Awful customer service, man on the phone was no help whatsoever, simply put me on hold for 10 minutes to be told tough luck. This company has lots of good reviews but honestly watch out, awful customer service and simply unhelpful. Avoid at all costs. You can buy tickets to the Eiffel Tower for 8 euro (under 24yrs) or 18 euro at the Eiffel Tower ticket stand, this is a literal waste of money spending over £100 when you may aswell buy the tickets yourself on the day. Myself and my boyfriend have a travel blog/instagram and we recorded the whole event with time and date stamped showing we arrived early, it will be going online for everyone to see alongside the snotty emails I have received from city wonders. read more

Don't book with them! All they want is your money. The bus left us at Versailles while we were with the company's agent on the phone. In their email they said 3 hours in the site, but actually it was two. We paid extra 15 euro each to see the fountain show but there was no time left for this activity. The representative on the phone couldn't contact the guide so we were just left there and had to pay for a taxi back to Paris. Seriously Don't do that to yourselves. read more

City Wonders was an excellent tour company. Our guide was Violette and she was the best. Violette kept our small group engaged and learning. She told great stories and and gave an excellent history of the pieces we saw on our express tour of the Louvre. We had our 12 year old son with us. He didn't want to do any more tours unless they were with Violette! If you have limited time or a prefer an abbreviated tour this express tour of the Louvre is a great choice. I recommend as early as possible to avoid the crowds. read more

Horrible experience. Would not recommend. Bad customer service. Arrived on time and was still not able to go on tour because the representative was "busy checking in other people". They also would not refund or allow my group to go with another tour guide. They told us to come back in January and we were leaving in less than two days. read more

06-01-18 My wife and I did the day trip to three of the D-Day beaches (Utah/D-Day museum, Pointe du Hoc and Omaha) with Fred and Michelle and let me tell you, they were spot on. Fred knew his stuff. As a history buff myself, I know the accuracy of his accounts. He went in to the full account of why Germany was able to be duped by the Nazi party going all the way back to the Franco-Prussian War. Michelle was also just as knowledgeable and provided insights to Normandy itself as well as full accounts of the Second Rangers taking Pointe du Hoc. My wife and I had a great time and were very, very impressed. 5-stars all the way. (Bonus, you get to taste some delicious cider and Norman food.) read more

We booked the City Wonders VIP half day tour of Versailles, which was supposed to include the private apartments, going inside the chapel, etc. The worst tour we have ever been on. What did we get? A whirlwind sprint through some of the public rooms of the chateau that lasted 1 hour and 17 minutes. Yes, I timed it. I also timed the amount of time we spent with a massive number of other people there for various City Wonders tours on the logistics of splitting up into our color coded groups. There were about 60 to 70 people at the meeting point. We spent 1 hour and 27 minutes on the logistics of splitting up into the individual groups. It was chaos -- poorly organized, incredibly poor customer service with the 5 or 6 City Wonders staff spending more time visiting and chatting with each other, than communicating to their tour groups. The morning of our tour had an additional challenge that was outside of City Wonders control, which was a strike by the Versailles staff. The loss of time due to this strike is not included at all in the times I provided above. The strike lasted from 8am opening until the gates were finally opened at about 10:20 AM. The times I tracked above are all AFTER the strike was over. Rather than using the time during the strike to organize the 60 to 70 or so people there for these various City Wonders tours, they visited with each other and had a smoke or two. When we finally did go into the chateau we were told by our guide that the chapel and private rooms that we were scheduled to go in to, where closed so they would not be included in our tour. When we got to the chapel, there was clearly another tour group inside the chapel taking pictures and wandering around. When I asked our guide why, she became visibly frustrated and tried to rationalize the situation by claiming they were Versailles staff. When I pointed out the tour group sign and the obvious tourists in the group wandering around taking pictures, she became more flustered and mentioned that City Wonders had to make difficult choices to get back on schedule. We paid for a 1/2 day tour. What we got was a 1 hour and 17 minute sprint through some of the public areas with a guide that went so fast that she was at times a full two rooms ahead of many people in the group. After the tour was over, I went back around to the offices to check with the Versailles staff. When I asked whether the chapel or private rooms had been closed to tour groups for the day, I was told no, they were not. City Wonders lied to us. They made a decision to sacrifice our tour, in order to get back on schedule. After raising issues, I was told we would get refunds. We got a tiny refund amounting to a small fraction of what we had paid. We had planned for an entire half a day tour, and ended up with a 1 hour and 17 minute tour that was substantially less valuable than a walk through on our own, reading information from our iPhones. City Wonders is a dishonest company. We will never book with them again. read more
