Horrible service. Whatever you do don't inconvenience them or make them actually work at blending a track or readjusting levels. They are only here to grab your cash and then rush you out the door. Go somewhere else if your serious about music. read more

Travel a lot for work. Try and find studios that I can vibe with and have good engineers that work fast/smart/add something to the session in the cities that I'll be at. Studio was legit, good equipment. Good vibes environment. Freddie Bunz was my engineer, A+. Will for sure be back in there if I'm ever in Indy. read more

Meet the Business Owner: Jon H.

Jonathan Howe aka 'Icon' is the owner of CityDump Records and the nights engineer . He is a self taught recording engineer that has over 6 years of experience. He has worked with over 50 artists in the state of Indiana. Icon is know for his mixing style of drops, chops, and delays. He has slowly built his recording studio into on of the top studio's in the Indianapolis area and has created an environment of creativity to inspire artists

The location itself has rehearsal spaces and recording studios available for use by members. Through open houses and mixer events, Soundspace strives to create connections for musicial collaboration and learning experiences. From what I understand, Soundspace uses a subscription model to provide services to its members. You can join as a monthly user to connect with others through exclusive events. If you need rehearsal or recording studio time, you can book time at the space for your practice and mixing needs. I am glad to see to see an unique venture like Soundspace here in Indy. In addition, there are plans to expand into a much bigger venue on the south end of the building. Hopefully through these efforts we can continue to expand the music scene in the city.

When you first walk in, you are in the theater room and you see a drum set in the corner. I assume artists can come in to rehearse and fine tune their music. As you walk toward the back, there is a larger studio space ideal for photo shoots or video production. The studio can also simply be a event space equipped with A/V capabilities. I visited The Box for a workshop, and it turned out they were also hosting an art show the next night. That goes to show the space can be adapted for different purposes. Located near the 16 Tech/Riverside neighborhood, the area itself is kind of nondescript but you will be surprised what you find inside The Box.

As mentioned, the owner's a little quirky. I think he means well, but doesn't know as much about guitars as he'd like. And he gets pretty defensive if he's not the one in the know on something. That's not the end of the world. But it's an odd experience in an exclusively USED instrument store. Because those of us who have been playing and collecting for decades are going to come in and occasionally have a little more knowledge on something obscure they've got in, etc. If someone with gray hair who knows how to disassemble and review an instrument comes in, it behooves you to trust that he understands it. They stand by their own intake inspection to a fault. If you find something they missed on their intake inspection--even if it's glaring like the guitar doesn't make sound when plugged in--then you've got an uphill battle to prove your case even if you haven't left the store with the instrument yet. If you're looking for a deal on something generic, I think this place will get you through alright. If you're collecting, then this place is probably going to weird you out a little.

They once called to advise of a mistake made on their end resulting in them needing to perform more extensive work, which would normally be a several hundred dollar job but they completed it absolutely free. This is the best studio in the city of Indianapolis and arguably the best in the Hoosier state. The welcoming staff, atmosphere and booking options keep me and my team coming back. There are options to record with quality engineers (some are also producers with amazing beats who want to see the artists win) as well as own your own in the production room space for longer sessions or live instrument recording. It was great working with ICON at CityDump. I came into the studio prepared and with ideas of what I wanted for each song. ICON not only took those ideas and made them happen, but added tons of other things I never would have thought of. He gave great feedback and was super chill to work with. Worked with Icon for a couple of songs and I loved it. The equipment is top notch and the service is professional. I would recommend to anyone with a project to plan ahead (Lead vocals, background and harmonies) and also whatever effects. It was also easy to communicate with Icon about what worked and what didn't and he showed excitement for my project.
