The rooms looks really old and dirty and atm machines don't tell you the fee when you pull out euros. It charged me 60 dollars for 300 dollars! It's far and they have a team but it's about 17 stops from the city center. Room service food was horrible. We couldn't order anything but sandwiches and ordered a chicken sandwich and lentil soup and it was bland and it is worst then what you can make at home. The free breakfast is the same everytime: over hard eggs and blood sausage and toast... fruit and cereal and oatmeal. I am diabetic and no artifice sugar unless you ask for it. The amenities were little to none. There is a pool and gym The salon is not open unless you call to make appointment Front desk is ok. Not as warm as in the states. read more

Normally when I hand out a three it's because a place is overall average - wouldn't go out of my way to return but would go again sort of average. Citywest is different. This three is more like an average of fives and ones. Five because the amenities are great, the staff are very friendly, the buffet breakfast is well run and has something for everyone, and the pub pulls a nice Guinness. But One because the front desk never actually answers the phone, there is limited food available on site, they made my bed with a pillow still in it (who does that?) and there is no wifi in the room. Just a lot of frustrating little details (I could go on) that get to you if you stay more than a few days. So I would return, but I wouldn't go out of my way....sort of average. read more

City west is a huge new neighbourhood built up in Tallaght, although they call it Saggert! It is a sprawling town of matching houses and apartments and in its centre is the City West Hotel. Now I have been here many times for dinner, lunch, a 50th & 60th Birthday and only last week for a wedding. The lunch was great, the food fantastic, the buffet full and hearty and appetising. The price alright, but I wasn't paying so didn't care much. The dinner was in the same place and was pretty much the same food as the lunch only this time you ordered it off a menu not a buffet. The food is really tasty and the food for the birthday parties and the wedding in particular, which was organised and cooked by the hotel is really good. However, my problem is with the hotel itself. It just feels cheap and seedy. It is always full of shady looking characters and I am sure there are more than just business deals going down in the bar and lounges. The rooms themselves are nothing special or worth writing about. Very standard and basic but they put up with lots of people coming back to the rooms and partying so it is good for groups! read more

I too have to agree that the City West Hotel is pretty damn good. I was at a ball here late last year and if I'm being honest, was kind of dreading the thing. For some reason I expected the hotel to be a bit crap (don't ask me why) but I was completely surprised. The conference room was done up to the nines and looked fantastic, the staff and service for the entire night was great and the food was some of the best food I've ever eaten in a hotel. The grounds of the hotel are really nice too. Except maybe for the completely unnecessary helicopter landing pad in the middle of the main garden.... read more

I stayed here for the Food and Hospitality Ireland conference in September 2014. I was surprised by how lovely this hotel was from the entrance - set in a huge golf course, it's very "Kellermans" from Dirty Dancing. Shame there was no Johnny to teach us to dance. Staff were friendly from the outset, especially the front desk and concierge. My hotel room was on the ground floor and whilst it was rather glam (see photos) it smelt quite strongly of smoke, which was a shame. Perhaps it used to be a smoking room. I guess retrospectively I should have asked to move rooms, so I can't complain too much on that front. Besides the smoke issue, the bathrooms here are fantastic - great showers, jacuzzi baths, old school high cistern loos. The bed was huge and comfortable, and overall it was a good stay. One thing that drives me bananas about this hotel is the lack of wifi. There is no wifi in the bedrooms (but it's a conference hotel?!, HELLO, business people??!). There is a wired connection, but since I have a mac computer, I couldn't use the plug without the correct adaptor (which I didn't have with me). Get the wifi sorted, febreeze the rooms, and you're onto a winner, Citywest, because I actually like this hotel. read more

My sister and I stayed at Citywest for the last night of our Southern Ireland trip. The hotel has four star potential, but unfortunately our room had a few issues that is keeping me to a three star rating for our visit. The hotel itself is really classic and attractive. At first glance, our room was spacious and looked nicer than most of the other hotels we stayed during our trip. Our room featured full and twin-sized beds, and each had a nightstand. Unfortunately, there were hardly any electrical outlets around the room, and none near the beds. Also, the room was fairly hot and there did not appear to be a thermostat anywhere in the room. We had to keep the window open all night to cool things down. The lone mirror in the bedroom was placed very low on the wall, which wasn't very convenient. The bathroom was very nice and looked like it had been recently redone. Unfortunately, our toilet was acting up and, on every third flush or so, we'd have to remove the lid on the tank and finagle with the parts to get it to flush again. We probably should have asked for a new room as soon as this happened but, again, it was our last night and we were in a rush to get to downtown Dublin for a few hours. Citywest is located about a half mile or so from the nearest Luas station (Saggart). Though it's the last stop on the rail, it's a very convenient way to get to downtown Dublin (the ride is about 40 minutes). If your return to the Saggart station is after 6pm, you have to switch lines. Thankfully, we met a couple very nice locals who advised us on how and when to do so. The restaurant at Citywest had very solid food but pretty terrible service. I realize this review sounds like a bunch of negatives but it really was a nice place to stay. Aside from the toilet issue, everything else was just minor inconveniences but not deal breakers. Though I'd probably want to be closer to city center on a future visit, I wouldn't be opposed to staying there again. read more

Great price. Nicely decorated.  Big bed.  Very clean.  Looks classy.  Convention at the hotel, so everything was really busy / congested. Closet: Way too small - only hangars for shirts. Wow...hard to believe I could get less bathroom counter space than the last hotel, but I guess I am storing my toiletries on the desk! Got a whirl pool tub in my room - nice! Hot water in shower fluctuated to luke warm/cold frequently while in the shower. The hotel housekeeping forgot to clean my room.  At 9pm, once discovered, they offered to clean my room. Pub is friendly.  Lots of nice people. Golf looks fun.  Great looking course. Walking the halls back to one's room at night feels like 'the shining'.  The lights even click on and off as you move through segments on the hall.  Great for power saving - great for creepy atmosphere. Breakfast is good.  Lots of options and the pastries are fresh. read more

I did not stay here nor did I play golf here but due to working the weekend I have got to experience the lobby and the bar areas! Firstly there is loads of parking. The landscaping is very well kept which shows that they have a pride in their appearance. For me it was a great experience because there is free wi-fi, and fast wi-fi which allows me to work at ease. I ordered a coffee and they insisted that I take a seat so that I would have it brought to me. I did want some breakfast but they only serve toast in the lobby area which is unfortunate but I understand their stance. Staff are truly a credit to the place, extremely friendly, attentive and the fact that I am pretty shabbily attired for a venue like this reflects their class in treating everyone as a guest. Star drop due to some fixtures and fittings needing fixing. I have been known to be a bit obsessive about little details but a corner of the carpet has sunken. the cable attaching a plug has come away from the wall. Also the legs of some chairs need dusting and varnishing. Again these things are not glaringly obvious but they irk me non the less. To me all these things can bring the overall look down. read more

I came here when my flight got cancelled. This place is ginormous, has tons of rooms and the golf courses are really good- well maintained. The staff was very accommodating, even when we ordered food at 1am. The layout of the place is interesting as well and the beds were comfortable. Pro- I have a short stay with a checkout time of 2:30am to catch a flight. I must say the staff are amazing, super friendly and willing to help without hesitation. This review is only for the conferencing facilities. I attend a lot of training events and conferences at different hotels in Ireland & I really like this place. This is in my top 3. The venue is a little dated, but in a good way if that makes any sense... nothing is shabby but it's quite old fashioned in an elegant way. We wanted for nothing during our conference with a team on site to offer additional services such as printing & scanning as we required from time to time. The thing that really won me over if I'm honest is their food. They truly have the best & freshest snacks of any conference centre I've ever been to (which says a lot considering my feelings about the cookies in the Hilton at Charlemont). Delicious fresh baked treats & lots of fruit too. Their lunch options were either pub grub or a sambo meaning everyone is happy (because inevitably which ever option you decide on for your group someone is always going to prefer sambos over a full meal or vice versa). The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because of it's location - it's just so far out for anyone commuting from anywhere other than the M50 belt. However this is not something they can really do to improve their service so possibly a little unfair of me! read more

Staff are very Helpful and friendly unfortunately the bar is insanely overpriced but as you would expect for a hotel.The room was ok for the price and the bed was really comfy. I had to take away another staff for the quality of food provided for the breakfast food was ok but very greasy and only lukewarm the staff were friendly but unfortunately very busy. Nothing really stands out about this hotel the room price was fantastic I wish the same could be same about the food/drink will definitely be coming back and would recommend. read more

Cleanliness, kindness, professionalism, and class. That was the expectation. None of my expectations were met. The hotel constantly gives off a feeling of "antique" with the let down of dysfunctional rooms and services. Out of all the hotels in Ireland that I've stayed in, certainly one of the more disappointing ones. No modern equipment in the rooms, key cards did not work, guest staff were not helpful when asking questions about the city of Dublin, bar is way overpriced and the drinks are lackluster...about as warm of a welcome as a blizzard in the middle of January. This place is huge but there's little to recommend about it other than its easy location for the airport. Both rooms for our party offered a twin size and a queen size bed. Both queens were awful...totally whipped. The twins were fine. Basically that means that for a couple, the one with the worst back gets the twin and you can't sleep together. Room otherwise was okay but the decor is tired. Overall, be it the art in the rooms or the halls, what is with all of the duplicate pictures?? My room had two identical pictures side by side. At one stretch of hallway there were FOUR in a row! So strange. Checked out the dining venues and they were...too big and too vacant. Fill the room with a ton of people for a class reunion and maybe you'd have something but popping into their "pub" for a bite to eat and you'd feel like the only person at a banquet hall. read more

The hotel itself is amazing and very comfortable but during our stay my groups rooms were not once not twice but three times we had problems with house keeping going through our stuff and one of those times they stole all of money and souvenirs from our room and the hotel did not much to help the situation also the hotel was very harsh with our group and their volume while inside the rooms (were a marching band) yet when walking down the hall way on their first floor a guest was playing music so loud it was audible from two floors up and while we walked by a hotel employee delivered room service and then left without asking the guest to turn the volume down, if you do stay at this hotel make sure you talk all your valuables with you whenever you leave and never use the safe as its the first place the seem to check . read more

Really nice friendly staff. The grounds and hotel are very large. The pool is also a good size, but you share it with a lot of people. Also it's 3 Euros for a cap, which is mandatory. There is also a nice gym upstairs. The females and males have separate saunas and jacuzzis so that sucks and why I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5. Room and bathroom is very nice. And the TV actually swivels. I would recommend this hotel. read more

This place is HUGE! It literally takes 7 minutes to get to our room from the entrance. Too many people here for my taste. If you like ritzy, busy places, you might like it here. It's got a huge (packed) gym & pool. Everything is clean though. The room is pretty & clean besides a few big stains on the carpet. The bed is big, but not very comfortable. The pillows are flat. We couldn't get the shower head to work, so we had to bathe using the tub & sprayer. Breakfast has a big selection, but it seems like breakfast is exactly the same everywhere we go. Something different would be nice. The food is ok. Some staff are helpful & friendly, others are not. I don't golf, but the golf course was pretty & a nice walk. When traveling to the city center (Dublin), the Luas station is about a 5 minute walk if you park at the lot close to the main gate. The LUAS ride is about 40 minutes into the city. I booked this online through their website. It was €120 for two nights, double room. I expected little from the hotel, which may be why I was so surprised. The room layout is spacious with a standard sized double bed, table with two large chairs, dressing table, tv, safe deposit box, trouser press, tea and coffee, wardrobe space, bathroom with bath, toilet and shower. The bathroom door was a bit squeeky and we couldn't switch off the light over the sink (which got quite hot) but otherwise, this was a standard to nice experience for a hotel room with nice decor and the added bonus of an in-room temperature control gauge. No view to speak of on this occassion, but that is always pot luck. The hotel bar was full of children, as to be expected when the Conference Centre is hosting "Disney on Ice". Food in restaurant is mid-range, not too fancy, not too shabby and plenty of parking. I wouldn't be rushing back here but if the price and the requirement was right again, I wouldn't hesitate to stay here. read more

I am staying for the Christmas Holiday and I will say it has been a treat. A bit of a cab fair from the airport so make sure you have plenty of Euro on you my fair was about €60. Once you arrive the hotel is a spectacular mix of old and new world. A very charming check in desk and grand stair case greet you you as you arrive. I will admit at the time I arrive just before Christmas eve there were not many patrons and the hallways remind me of the hotel from the Shinning. Fortunately no twin girls to be found. My room is very comfortable with a large king bed. It has been upgraded recently especially the bath which features a Jacuzzi tub and full shower. The floor to celling tile is a nice touch as the shower glass doesn't prevent water from spilling out. Instant coffee and tea are provided in your room. There is an ether net cord for Internet but if you want wifi you must go to the lobby. Another trick is the hotel, hair dryer is in the desk drawer and will not work with the plug in the bathroom, The bar staff is extremely pleasant and pour a perfect Guinness. Much to my surpass the American drafts of bud wiser and Coors light were also present sure to satisfy any wondering redneck from home. The food is good. Be mindful what you order depending on your taste buds. The Guinness stew and mashed potatoes are amazing as is the pizza, wings and the lasagna in the bistro are all very good as well. Meals are priced reasonably well for being at a higher end property. I arrived during the worst snow storm in 30 years so I did not play golf. But the grounds and buildings are first class. I did attend the Disney on Ice Show which was fantastic and the facility fir the event was perfect. From the families, groups and couples traveling this was a great spot to come and stay. My only complaint is that if you want to spend a lot of time in Dublin bring extra taxi euros as it's a €27 cab fair each way if the weather cooperates. Cheers and enjoy. read more

The hotel looks beautiful when you walk in and that's about it. There is duct tape on the rugs in the hallways, the air vent in our room was bent and broken. The beds were springy and uncomfortable and rooms looked out dated. The amenities they list would be great if we could ever use them. We tried to order room service 3 times and they never picked up. They didn't have an airport shuttle which made it pricy to get there. read more

What a gorgeous hotel, it really has the most beautiful golf course. The hotel is very beautiful, the decor is very appealing and inviting. I loved the room, extremely clean, large beds great channels needless to say after almost a month of traveling this was the most comfortable bed of them all. Stayed here over the May bank holiday weekend...the hotel in general is what you'd expect, clean large rooms with large bathroom with bath and separate shower which was good but it falls down in some key areas. WiFi was unusable in the room, had to keep phone/iPad in window to get signal that kept dropping off so no use really but room did have a CAT5 cable for a good hard wired connection, works well for my laptop but with so many WiFi enabled devices in use these days they need to upgrade their WiFi in the main hotel....which as it happens is fantastic in the conference centre. Other MAJOR problem is the bar staff...while enjoying a late drink in residents bar on one of the nights left the bar with another patron for a smoke out front of hotel and on our return bar staff had lifted our drinks (€10 value) which I consider theft, they might as well of reached into our wallets and taken the money!! When questioned about it they denied it and to be honest I think the Bar manager was behind it as he had a careless attitude to our complaints...not one to accept that kind of service or attitude I then went to the hotel duty manager to complain and request he review CCTV footage to prove my complaint but he just took my name and room number and said he'd look into it. When I asked to speak to duty manager next day no one was available and I never got contacted the remainder of my stay. I understand that with a business of this size things can go a little wrong from time to time but the measure of a good business is how they handle those problems and complaints and for me City West have failed badly to deal with any aspect of my personal complaint and therefore only warrant a 2 star rating and only get that for the other aspects of the hotel...leisure centre, golf course, conference centre etc. Let's now see how they handle this public review and if they bother to respond to or defend it in any way! read more

This place has a lot of history. It's been a golf resort and hotel for a long time. It's also rather creepy and seems like it should be in a scary movie. The hallways are dim and the place smells old as well. Not in a bad way but it smells OLD! This was a pre planned trip for us through an agency and this was the hotel they gave us for our Dublin leg of the trip. The room itself was nice and the hotel restaurant wasn't too bad. I'm not much for golf however so a lot of the things they offer I simply wasn't interested in. I felt under dressed to say the least.The experience itself was good. The hotel is down a long tree lined drive way of sorts and the grounds seemed massive. I just wish it wasn't windy on top of rainy and cold so we could've explored more. To add to the creepiness and haunted feeling our hall way lights were all out and walking down the hall way it seemed like we were the only ones staying there. read more

Stayed here for a little over a week. Booked a family room, which had 3 beds. The room itself was nice and big and the bathroom was clean. Now, I don't know if this is common among most hotels in the UK but I was very surprised when I was told that our room didn't have an AC. I didn't think a "resort" would have rooms without air conditioning...What was also surprising about this "resort", was the TV in our room. The TV was ANCIENT. It had maybe 7 channels that got spotty service. The beds were average, nothing special. The breakfast really saved our stay, while we only got to enjoy it once, it was phenomenal. The hotel itself is within walking distance to the LUAS which is convenient but I wish there were more lights in the drive way. When walking back at night, it's almost impossible to see in front of you halfway down their drive way, I wouldn't feel safe walking back to the hotel alone late at night. Their gym is pretty impressive, but we didn't make use of it during our stay because it closes very early-- wish it was 24/7. Overall our stay was average. read more

I really liked this hotel, it seemed like I stepped back in time. Huge rooms, great food (coffee and scones in the lobby is fabulous before heading out for the day), and very helpful and nice staff.
