Civic Hall Performing Arts Center is a performing arts center owned and operated by Richmond Community Schools in Richmond, Indiana. It's located on the grounds of Richmond High School and previously served as the high school's gymnasium. It was renovated in 1993 and has a seating capacity of 616 on the Main Floor and Boxes and 312 in the Balcony and Boxes. Civic Hall Performing Arts Center has the look and feel of a high school performing arts center and serves the community quite nicely by providing a decent sized venue for educational programming, local events, and regional acts including the Henhouse Prowlers show I was able to see. Despite spending several years in a seminary in Richmond, I'd not gone to Civic Hall until recently. Accessible parking is available at the entrance and exit of the circle drive in front of Civic Hall. There's also accessible parking on adjacent streets. It is important to note that accessible seating is only on the main floor - there's no elevator in Civic Hall and those with mobility issues would not have access to balcony seating. According to the Civic Hall website, "Civic Hall has wheelchair accessible seating located on the main orchestra floor on each side of the main seating area. Booster seats are available for children at the box office. For hearing-impaired patrons we offer infrared listening systems at the box office. Please alert the box office as to any special needs at least two weeks prior to the event." I'm always impressed with performing arts centers in smaller cities and towns. You can get season tickets for the Civic Hall season with prices ranging from $110-$155. That's a pretty awesome value. Richmond also has quite a few motels/hotels and can be easily accessed off I-70 for those who see a regional act they'd like to attend. While I wouldn't consider this a destination performing arts center, it's a comfortable and quality performing arts center for those in East Central region of Indiana. While there are some accessibility concerns to be found here, with appropriate planning individuals with disabilities should easily be able to enjoy the show. read more
