Perhaps I'm a bit spoiled because I've been going to the same nail place for most of my life, but my experience here was less than satisfactory. I was in Charlottesville for a few days visiting a friend and decided to get myself a manicure. I was shopping around the area and saw the large signs in the window that said "Walk-ins Welcome" or something to that tune. I decided to give it a shot. Let me first say that I did not mind waiting. I realize that even though walk-ins are welcome, appointments come first. This was not my first nail rodeo. I was quickly seated with my nails soaked for the manicure. I inquired immediately about a simple design with a picture from my phone - just a small design on one accent nail - and was told that they would not do it. Not a HUGE deal had it not been for the rest of the manicure being so mediocre. I definitely got the hint. Walk-ins are only welcome in between regulars and appointments. My manicure was the quickest, most unrelaxing experience I have had at a beauty shop. The actual manicure couldn't have taken longer than 5 minutes (including the hand massage). After my nails were painted, the lady pointed to the drying table. Again, I may just be used to my usual spot, but normally my manicurist grabs my belongings and brings them over to the table. This time, I had to gingerly grab my purse, kindle, and phone all while trying not to smudge my nails. On top of that, I wasn't overly impressed with their polish selection. This place is great! I went there because of the reasonable (for Charlottesville) price & solid reviews on Yelp. The place is clean and welcoming. They have plenty of pedicure chairs (with nice massage features) as well as a many manicure stations. I went on a Friday afternoon, and I did not have to wait at all. I was served right away. Most of their nail polishes are O.P.I, some Essie (my preferred brand). I did wish the selection was a bit larger, but I found a color was happy with. Everyone seems sweet and attentive. They seem to try to truly do a good job and cater to your needs. I know my nail technician won't be there much longer, but my friend who got her nails done right before suggested someone else that I'll request. I think I found my Charlottesville mani/pedi place. Prices aren't bad either. $22 for pedi. $13 for mani. $32 for both. read more

I'm in town for the week and desparately needed a pedicure. Yelp reviews led me to CK Nails and did not lead me astray! The whole experience was great, and I would return without hesitation if I lived in the area. I came for a mani and pedi ($32), and the ladies got me in a chair right away to soak my feet (and enjoy the massage chair) for the 5-10 minutes that I had to wait for someone to become available. My manicurist was very professional and polite, and she was chatty without being intrusive or overly talkative. I was somewhat amused by the part of the calf and foot massage that involved smacking my calf and feet, having not experienced this before, but it was not unpleasant. She did a truly great job on my nails (and didn't flinch at their gnarly original state), hands and feet. I was probably there for an hour and twenty minutes, which seemed like a lot, but I am not complaining about extra time in the massage chair. I was prepared for this to be a really difficult place to find, but coming on foot from Emmet Road, it could not have been more visible. I would definitely recommend CK Nails! read more

Pedicures here are good, my polish did not chip at all even though I got regular polish. Long massages. The lady did not speak any English and she cut my nails uneven so I had to correct her. She ended up cutting them a bit too short but I got over it because the massage was great and the polish didn't chip. Good price for pedicures. Acrylic nails on the other hand - a male does them and he rushes the process entirely and can not file for his life. He makes shapes very uneven and when you try to correct him he becomes arrogant and blames it on your previous nail technician (she did a perfect job btw so he was the one that screwed it all up). Polish is streaky. Nail lengths were un even and nail shape was completely botched. No knowledge of nails whatsoever. The price is over considering the skill set and lack of professionalism. Quality of manicure was extremely poor-- certainly the worst manicure I have ever gotten. The service was clearly very, very rushed, and they were clearly very disorganized. I got a manicure with the dip powder, and my fingers and hands were dyed red, and there was a lot of extra polish on the skin around my nails. I will definitely not be returning, as the service was also unprofessional. I highly recommend choosing another salon. read more

Talk about a horrible location! They are so hard to find, but they're relatively inexpensive, very sweet and do a really nice job. You have to turn in towards blockbuster on Arlington blvd, go all the way back then hang a right around the building and they are on the right. Their part of the parking lot is one way, which only adds to the difficulty. What else can I say? Most nail salons seem pretty similar to me but I did really like the woman that did my nails, she made conversation but not too much, and it was very relaxing. I would definitely go back. read more

This was my first visit to CK Nails. I thought I would give it a try since it had such good reviews. I was not disappointed! I had no trouble finding the place. I just turned onto Arlington from Emmett and CK Nails was clearly visible on the left. I was greeted right away and quickly seated in a massage chair for my pedicure. The pedicure was so relaxing. I loved the foot and calf massage. Following the massage, my calves were wrapped in steamed towels while the manicurist painted my toenails. It was amazing! The manicurist did a great job shaping and painting my nails. I felt pampered, but she didn't take an overly long time, either. After my manicure, I had my eyebrows shaped and waxed. The eyebrow wax was done by someone other than the lady who had done my nails. Both were very friendly and professional. Every time she yanked off a wax strip, she would say, "I'm sorry." That was amusing to me, because I wasn't grimacing or acting like I was in pain. She was just being empathetic. All of the nail instruments were sanitized, and the business was clean & airy. It was pleasantly decorated and even had a nice flat-screened TV to watch during the pedicure. Also, by the time I was almost finished with my manicure, it was about 3:45 PM on a Sunday afternoon. They close at 4 on Sundays. Four people came in at about that time. They all needed manicures and/or pedicures. They were all welcomed and served, even though the business was getting ready to close. I was really impressed by the high level of customer service! The best part was that I got a pedicure, manicure, and eyebrow wax for only $48--and that included a 20% tip! While the employees are very friendly, I am very dissatisfied with my "dip" manicure. I got my nails done about 4 days before my vacation. Two days in and two nails have completely come off. Considering this manicure is advertised to last at least 14 days, I'm pretty disappointed. I've been here for mani's and pedi's and these people are just wonderful! They take their time and they're really really friendly. They always put a towel on my legs if I'm wearing shorts or a skirt. How considerate! I actually went in for my very first brazilian wax here and I have to say, I'm glad I did! The owner of the shop is extremely friendly and she's experienced. She was even apologizing that it was hurting so much! She pulled out the strips super fast which made it less painful though! I paid $40 + tip. It couldn't have gotten better. I showed the technician a picture of what I wanted from their own website (an ombré glitter look), what she gave me looked absolutely nothing like what I asked for. After I voiced my concern, she said for that look I needed dip powder, which I was fine with. No clue why she didn't just use dip powder in the first place when I showed her the she picture ... the fills she gave me were also not close to my cuticle- it looks like my nails have already grown out a week. I'm not going to go into an extensive review, but there were two things that bothered me about this place. The first thing, is that nobody tried to make conversation at all. I felt so awkward with the lady doing my nails that I stared out of the window the entire time. The thing that bothered me more, though, is that I got my nails done about 24 hours ago, and all of them are chipped. Two of them are more than half way chipped off, and the rest are chipped in places. I wasn't doing anything that would cause this, which sucks, because it was a total waste. I've experienced better. Let me start with some of my "mani/pedi" background. I have been doing my own nails since I was very young and I do pretty well in my opinion and in opinion of others. I have done my friends' mani/pedi for prom and banquet etc since I was in high school, so it's not that I only have experiences with my own nails either. I currently own 60+ nail polishes and various tools and even took two classes from professional nail artists. The only reason I go to nail salon instead of doing them on my own is for the luxury of having someone else do them for me while I just daydream. Every time I go visit one, I take one of my own nail polishes anyways. I went in today for my 2:30PM appointment, and I admit, I was about 5 minutes late. Maybe less. However, regardless of whether or not I made an appointment, I had to wait till 3:05PM. This was my third visit and I decided to come back after one of the ladies and the owner guy did great job two previous times I've gone. However HELEN did my nails today, and she hurt my cuticle, she shaped my nails into some unattractive irregular shapes (some square some round and some in between), and she was grumbling in her own language every time I kindly asked her to do/change something. Nick, who was doing gel manicure for someone who sat next to me said, in exact words, "Look, she's been doing nails for 20 years," which I found very rude. SO WHAT? Was he saying that I was saying is invalid? Because experience makes everything perfect? He didn't even look at my nails and how terrible she made them look! I almost made a scene, but since it was a busy hour and for the sake of the owner guy and one of the other ladies that I had great experiences with, I held it in. So two stars for those people. Never get your nails done from Helen. And if you don't want rude smart mouth, don't get it from Nick either. I will be searching for a new salon. read more

It's really hit or miss. The staff is friendly and efficient and I've always loved the eyebrow wax services. However, every time I get a mani/pedi from this one woman, she makes my cuticle bleed! So frustrating. That's not to say that she doesn't do a good job - the mani pedi ends up looking nice - but I get frustrated that she consistently does this time and time again. read more

I gave this place three chances to show me that they were worth my money. The first time I went there was for a pedicure. It was alright, and I had experiences better, but what really tore me was that the lady who checked my nails as they were drying told me they were all dried and I could put my shoes back on. I went home and found the nail polish all messed up because it hadn't fully dried. Ok, I said, minor mistake. I went back a second time for an acrylic gel manicure and was displeased by the fact that the acrylic was chunky and the shapes of the nail did not perfectly conform with each other. The woman who did my nails was too busy answering phone calls and talking to her colleagues to really pay attention to what she was doing. Again, I was unimpressed but it was not a deal breaker for me since they were so close to my house with reasonable prices. I went there a third time 2 months later and tried again with acrylic gel. I'm never one to be upset about a language barrier because I understand the struggle and appreciate when people try their best even if English is their second language, but I find it truly odd to think you can run a business without making any effort to effectively communicate with your customer's needs. I felt like the woman doing my nails was not making any effort to understand what I meant when I tried to tell her to use less acrylic (to avoid the chunkiness from the second time) and to shape my nails in the way I wanted (I wanted a square shape with slightly rounded edges, but all she heard was "round" and made my nails circular, which I was unhappy with). A little patience in understanding my preferences would have been appreciated rather than mostly ignoring what I say until I have to say it 4 times with a little more force each time. Again, she was talking on the phone and being distracted while doing my nails, and it can be seen based on the end quality of my nails. I would not recommend this place. read more

Would give zero stars if possible. Terrible nail service and horrible customer service. Was treated rudely the entire time. My technician even got up to smoke a cigarette in the middle of doing my nails. Then he had the nerve to start yelling at me when I told him I didn't like how the color of the polish looked on one of my halfway painted hands. To top it off he added all these bogus charges for cutting my nails, etc etc. definitely steer clear of this place. There's a lot of other places down 29 with much better skill and friendliness. I got a manicure at CK nails yesterday afternoon and already two nails are massively chipped.

WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. I went in for an acrylic fill. The first issue was that she drilled into my skin. I was bleeding on two fingers within 5 minutes of starting my manicure. Then, she didn't remove all of my old polish before she started filling them. She was very rushed and filled them poorly. They're lumpy and there's acrylic lumps hanging off the edges of my fingers. Then she just started painting over the rest of the old polish, so you can SEE the old polish underneath the new layer. Pretty much ridiculous. Never have had my nails done so poorly. Wouldn't pay $10 to get this done, much less $40 read more

I absolutely love this place and will never, ever go anywhere else! I had acrylic nails for many years and they always did a wonderful job. I don't have them any more but if I ever need some pampering CK is always my spot. The woman who owns it is also an excellent waxer. I have been going there for over a year. The service was always friendly and looked great. Went in this afternoon with a friend's daughter who just turned 6. My pedi took less than 20 minutes. I asked for warmer water. Went from room temperature to scalding hot. My feet and ankles were beet red when I pulled them out. The ward towels were also much hotter than usual. I was concerned for the safety of the little one. I have a blister on my toe that had a nail scrubbing brush run over it. Then, it got nipped. Another technician offered my technician and she refused it. I asked for no lotion because their lotion makes me itch. I got nothing but oil rubbed in. Not massaged. Both technicians left us alone in the chairs with no direction. We took toe separators out and put our shoes on. We got attention when it was time to take money though. For the first time in my life, I was tempted not to tip. Another patron came in when I was putting my shoes on. She told them she was allergic to latex. The man told her the gloves weren't latex. Good thing she asked to see the box. They were latex. She luckily has her own latex free. They should not be using latex. Especially since open pores will cause a quicker allergic reaction. I know they're cheaper. But, safety should be a priority. I think it's time to find another salon. read more

I was in the area on business and decided to get a manicure. This place had great reviews so I was eager to try it. Big mistake. The lady who was helping me was very rough with my nails - I had just gotten my acrylics taken off. She completely butchered my cuticles and shaped them very poorly. She didn't even put a base coat on, and the polish was applied very unevenly. I took it off as soon as I got back to my hotel, even going so far as swinging by Sally's to get nail polish remover. To add salt to the wound, she kept getting personal calls the entire time she was "helping" me! It was unbelievably rude and made what should have been a nice treat turned out to be a huge disappointment. read more

I am in town for a friend's wedding, and we needed to go get our nails done. I turned to Yelp to find a place, as we're not very familiar with the area, and I was very happy with the service we received at CK. My manicure is perfect, my brows look beautiful, and my friend got acrylics put on and they look wonderful as well. We were done in 45 minutes, which is awesome for a full set of acrylics, and our manicurists were both friendly without being overly chatty. I'll go back there in a heartbeat if I am in town again. read more
