Our tasting was conducted in a nice room where we sat and listened about the winery's history and learned about their many fine wines. Our tasting began with their cremant (sparking wine) that was very refreshing. We continued on tasting pairs of wines with identical grapes and vintages but from different parts of the valley to fully appreciate the terroir. We tasted 4 pairs including Pinot Gris, Riesling, Pinot noir, and gurverstraminer-a very educational and enjoyable process. We all ended up buying a few bottles to take home to enjoy in the states. Hopefully they will taste as good there as in the beautiful Alsace.

Maison Emile Beyer's shop and tasting room is conveniently located in the middle of Eguisheim. One of the cutest towns in France! In my opinion, Maison Emile Beyer gets more foot traffic than other wineries thanks to Rick Steves's recommendation and their location. You won't need an appointment and walk-ins are almost always welcome. Super convenient and the reason I ended up at Emile Beyer. I tend to go for smaller producers and less touristy, but Maison Emile Beyer saved the day on my last minute trip to Eguisheim. Our host, Luciana, was patient and poured us a couple of their wines in their outdoor courtyard. Almost everything is available on the menu to taste, you just need to ask! Overall, I didn't find as many of their wines that fits my palette, but it is always an adventure trying new wines. English is somewhat limited, but as long as you know what you like to drink, your tasting should be a breeze! I ended up purchasing some of their Cremants, which was extremely affordable (approx €7). We were greeted as soon as we entered by a friendly lady who offered us a chance to sample their wines. 2-3 tastes later we had picked out a bottle to take with us. Red, White, Rosé, sweet wine, liquors, Crèmants. They have it all. The tasting room is a very classy and modern affair. Friendly staff with great knowledge of their products. Even our Bulldog was allowed in the tasting room/shop. Thanks for that. We sampled three glasses each. Three samples a person are free. How cool is that. The Riesling Cuvée des Seigneurs was a real treat. Got one of that, two of their fruity liquors and a bottle of aged sweet wine (a bit more pricey, but goes well with Foie Gras!). And of course some of their Crèmants: The Brut and the Crémant d'Alsace Rosé. Prices here are - for this quality - very fair. A really enjoyable visit.

I discovered this winery through a private wine tour. The small winery and surrounding village are…read morelovely and blessedly uncrowded by tourists. During my visit I tasted several wines on offer at the winery. Everything was enjoyable. Of particular note are their dry Rieslings and Muscat. The tasting I enjoyed was curated by Maxime, who partners with his father in the winemaking/growing process. He was incredibly engaging and helpful in explanations of both the wines and history of the winery. As a wine tour goes, this was a brilliant experience. In addition to producing some primo wines, the winery offers lodging for up to 4 or so guests. They also have a restaurant/tasting room space that can accommodate 30 or so guests.

We were served by a knowledgeable and friendly associate who spoke amazingly great English and told us about the terroir and the history and even this amazingly beautiful building. We tasted a few wines including a Cremant d'Alsace, a Reisling, and a Pinot Blanc. All fabulous and deliciously crisp. Yes, I bought a bottle and it not only survived the evening in France, it survived the journey back to the USA in my suitcase. Now I just need the right opportunity to share it. It's a lovely building. The view of the vineyard and the Château de l'Ortenbourg on the mountain in the distance is impressive. Don't miss out on this one. When we visited the village of St Hippolyte and had lunch at the restaurant there they served us a…read morelovely Rose wine and I immensely enjoyed it. Upon inquiring where we could buy this lovely wine in our broken French the hostess at the restaurant pointed us across the street and as it turns out the restaurant and winery are owned by the same family. The winery has existed since 1562 according to the sign out the front so I assume that is correct. They make a couple of whites, a rose and a red Pinot noir. I tasted all of the wines they made and most were pretty decent and what was extremely surprising was the prices. At €5 for a Rose and €6 for the Pinot Noir I thought it was a bargain and ended up buying some wine there to bring back. So for €60 we walked away with 12 bottles of wine and it was better than wines I have paid a lot more for in the past. We finally opened the Rose this evening and it reminded me of not only how good this wine was but also that I had not written about this place yet :-)) The really interesting part of this whole experience was the fact that whilst our French was a bit weak we were able to converse with him in German and the whole wine tasting was done in German in a French winery...lol I would happily buy wine from here again and I hope to come back for more Rose in the future. If they have indeed been producing wine for 400 some odd years they must be doing something right :-))
