Red, White, Rosé, sweet wine, liquors, Crèmants. They have it all. The tasting room is a very classy and modern affair. Friendly staff with great knowledge of their products. Even our Bulldog was allowed in the tasting room/shop. Thanks for that. We sampled three glasses each. Three samples a person are free. How cool is that. The Riesling Cuvée des Seigneurs was a real treat. Got one of that, two of their fruity liquors and a bottle of aged sweet wine (a bit more pricey, but goes well with Foie Gras!). And of course some of their Crèmants: The Brut and the Crémant d'Alsace Rosé. Prices here are - for this quality - very fair. A really enjoyable visit.

We had no problem with paying for the tasting but her aggressive reaction telling us 'if you don't buy you should pay for the tasting and leave, you own my the tasting and I don't own you anything'. Pretty much there is really something wrong with this lady. I have never been shouted at and treated like this anywhere else before. Just avoid this place and spare your self the humiliation and the frustration. There are plenty of good places in the town.

The place is actually a nice tasting room that features the barrels and feels inviting and warm. We have actually met the wife of the current owner of the winery who have told us about the wine and the vineyard and the methods they use, which is still mostly non-mechanical to care for the grapes and let us taste their wines. The tasting is free but buying their wines is totally worth it. The winery isn't present in the United States but I think it should be because their wines are unique and since 1620 the experience passed from father to son shows in the quality. We've tried most of their selection, which is pretty standard for the area, Silvaner, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Gewurtztraminer, and Pinot Noir. To be hones we really liked their Gewurtz selections so we got a case there. The Riesling for our taste was too minerally but than again for others it may be just right but I guess we are too spoiled by the Finger Lakes to like something different. They have a selection of Noble Wines (which is wines made from grapes touched by Noble Rot) and those that have been stored for quite some time like 1989 Gewurztraminer vintage. Weinbach's Cuvee St Catherine Schlossberg is a grand cru riesling you'll find on the menus of Mini Bar or Benu and for good reason. It's a beautifully floral, light and crisp wine. Think acidic enough to balance the salinity but lightness of oysters, monkfish liver and squid. Also, great for toning down the heat of the touch of serrano chile but not so sweet as to overpower those flavors. For around $50US it's not the cheap sleeper but it's definitely an excellent price performance value regardless.
