Why meditate with a singing bowl? They are said to promote deep relaxation, reduce stress, and enhance focus, creating a sense of inner peace. Despite the noise from the cicadas and the faraway sound of traffic, it was a gorgeous evening and I found myself lightly dozing?, relaxing while listening to the instruments. This was the last outdoor session of the season, with the fall sessions to be held indoors. If you are open to trying new experiences you may enjoy a singing bowl meditation. I saw that they previously did a Chicago bears logo class so I asked to do that and they printed me the picture to trace. The class was 3 hours and it took us the whole time. You have to be patient when wood burning. I really liked my final art! We were provided with instructions on how to take care of it and washing instructions so we can use it with food. I like that it is BYOB! The owner, Krystina, led our class. She was so friendly, patient, and provided great instructions. I'm addicted to wood burning! I will definitely be back!

Then the realization hit that we would be stuck at home for weeks (maybe even months...fingers crossed not the case) local businesses got creative. Since then I've been a bit overwhelmed with my kids virtual schedules and would do anything to drop off one of my kids somewhere...and even drive a carpool. Some virtual classes have been better than others. Yesterday we had a music teacher (not at Rootz) send out the wrong zoom passcode and teach the entire class without realizing any kids were on there. But today we had my one of son's favorite classes, Super Hero Boot Camp, here at Rootz take place on zoom and it was the best virtual class I saw yet. Mr. David was well prepared by sending us parents some worksheets (scavenger hunt and coloring page) ahead of time. He had a fun superhero background on zoom and engaged the kids for 40 minutes with super hero activities. Since they are so young it did require a parent to be present and think my husband had so much fun that I may have to sign him up for the class in the future. Are 43 year olds allowed? My son did get distracted a few times, which probably also happens in class, but overall he had so much fun. While he wishes he could see all his fellow superheroes in person, this is a great plan b.

Christine and Abbey run this school like all of the children are their own. They are warm, inviting, caring and thoughtful. My daughter is 4 and in the pre-school program and the activities she participates in are endless - art class, karate, woodworking, cooking etc. The teachers are top notch and really put a lot of effort into each and every day. My other daughter is in the nursery program and the teachers in that classroom are unmatched. The teachers go above and beyond for the babies as well as the parents in sending home adorable crafts and activities that your child will do during the day. My daughter is always clean (which is a hard feat to accomplish for a 1 year old) and I truly feel like I'm dropping her off with someone in my family every morning. The teachers put up pictures daily on the internal website so you really feel as if you have a good grasp on what your child/children are doing everyday and as a working mom, that means so much to me. There is a wonderful outside playground that the kids love to play on and pickups/dropoffs are seamless and easy without rigid rules that don't work for working parents. The school itself is new and clean which was a huge plus for me. I compared a bunch of different schools in the area prior to our move and I know I made the right decision for my girls.

Many parents have ended up pulling their children out of the school. I've lost count of how many school presidents have come and gone. The school has also cut back on meals and snacks to save money. Not too long ago, the school was open on most holidays. Now, almost every holiday is a day off, which means parents have to make arrangements to watch their children. The current president, Sonia, does not seem to be very familiar with the school's policies and practices. Half the time, she doesn't seem to know what she is talking about, which can be very frustrating for parents. Based on the school's track record, however, there will probably be another president sooner rather than later. On the positive side, there are a few teachers and teacher assistants who are truly some of the best people I have ever met. They put their heart and soul into caring for each child, and I honestly believe that is one of the main reasons some families continue to stay at the school.
