I have noticed that grocery stores are charging an exorbitant amount for wood ($9!). Look along roads for locals selling wood with self pay cash sites for 5 or 6 dollars.

It covers almost two million acres of land, glaciers, ice fields, tundra, forests, and coastal wetlands. I was staying in Soldotna and visited the Visitor Center that is located there. There are interactive exhibits and park rangers on hand to tell you about the activities that you can enjoy while here. I had an awesome opportunity to fly over both the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge and Kenai Fjords National Park in a small plane during my week in Alaska. I saw the Tustumena Glacier, the Skilak Glacier and the Harding Ice Field from high above. It was amazing to see the size of these glaciers from an airplane. We also traveled along the Kenai River. I did a lot of salmon fishing during my time here and enjoyed seeing the length of that famous river from the sky. The Kenai National Wildlife Refuge is Alaska's most visited refuge. They have a lot of wildlife that include moose, bears, wolves and swans. The Kenai River originates in the refuge and is renowned for its wide variety of sport fishing. The visitor center is your best spot to learn about where to go and to pick up maps and other resources. They also have events from time to time and offer guided walks. The visitor center is open year-round and has a book store and gift shop inside of it. The Dena'ina people call the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge "Yaghanen". It means the good land.

The ranger had lots of information on local wildlife to see in the fall along with tips for checking out the trails at the Refuge. When you visit you should definitely take the time to check out the center and ask the ranger what's good to see in season before you hit the trail. I did the short hike to the lakeshore and the Centennial trail there that loops through the woods. Since I visited in the fall, there were lots of colorful leaves and mosses to view, but no pesky bugs, which was cool. You'll find the trails here easy to navigate, they're well signed. The lake was really pretty with some nice mountain views. I didn't see any wildlife, but did see evidence of some. The ranger said there are bear and moose around, so just be aware that you may come across them in your exploration. (She said likely moose, but not bear...although it's not impossible...) A hidden gem in the city of Kenai. I absolute love this tiny…read morepark since it is well kept, with gravel walk way and nicely kept grass and little shrubbery etc. ample bench space with little plaques describing the area. This is my peace and serenity hang out even if for a few minutes break during my semi regular bike ride while visiting the city of Kenai. it is never crowded and I am always alone for the half a dozen times or so that I have visited. Beautiful view of the mouth of the world famous Kenai River as it drains into the Cook Inlet of the Pacific Ocean. I have not come in July but came here in September and October but know it would be madness during the heavy sockeye run especially when they open it up for dip netting. Now that would be a great show! Worth a visit!

It's remote enough to unplug from the world (no cell.service in about 80% of this huge park) but close enough to basic services like toilet paper, gas and a latte if you REALLY need it that you won't freak out. There's an enormous variety of activities in the wonderful park, and the fire opened up huge fields of wild flowers and fungi that were previously much harder to access. In some places the fire damage is very very disturbing and sad, but if you like being alone, like me, and enjoy rebirth and photography, coming here can be a very beautiful and centering experience.

There's access to the river bank for fishing, which is why people go here. Bathrooms are clean. The vistas here aren't terribly impressive. Campsites are merely functional and nor very attractive. It's definitely geared toward RVers who are there to fish. Frankly the sites are ugly, very open and exposed. I observed a number of vacancies despite it being the beginning of fishing season which I think speaks to the overall quality of this location- dusty and desolate.

No sites in Alaska...aww God bless the tourists that rent RV's...) anyrate we followed some signs to Morgans Landing Site, and much to our surprise sites were available! We choose a very nice and secluded one, surrounded by trees, and brush...complete privacy...what was really cool was there were Bald Eagles visible, along with Moose everywhere..we soon why the tourists did not flock here...Bears...90% of the occupied park were Alaskans who knew what to do and not to do...the tourists went screaming on their way..as a few actually tried to feed them...Jeeez how dumb..anyway..we stayed 5 days as allotted, and it was beautiful...the kenai was 1/4 of a mile away, the wildlife..and us in our trailer...the campsite is very much worth visiting...just beautiful...

Literally there's a queen bed and one person walking space on either side of the bed. No storage space nor closet. One sitting chair. Tiny bathroom and shower. Felt like an RV more so than a motel room....too cramped. $165/night....mehhhh. Location is great for dip netting. The check in guy was so lack luster. He didn't exhibit the type of hospitality I felt characteristic of places that charge that much for a closet space. Staff did respond quickly to requests and check out guy was warmer than the initial guy. They have some $250/night cabins shoved onto the parking lot and tightly packed RV lot. I guess I'd say...bravo on maximizing every square inch to make $$$! I would definitely look for a more spacious spot next time I'm in the area. I like to be able to stretch my arms and legs without hitting a wall.

There is a bathroom, small fridge and queen bed. The views are amazing. It may be less crowded because dip net season just ended a few days ago but we didn't feel overcrowded. I don't know why everyone is complaining, it lists what you get for the price online. The owners are the quiet type but were very accommodating. I wouldn't say it's a 5 star hotel but it was 5 stars in that it offered what it advertised, was clean and comfortable. It seems like most of the complaints are from the RV park users. If you're a mature adult and enjoy a quiet camp with a beautiful view I think you'd be happy here. It's not a 20's something party spot.

We were driving to the Homer Spit from Soldotna to do some Halibut fishing and made a stop here at…read morethis overlook. The panoramic views of Kachemak Bay and the mountains in the background are just gorgeous from here. At this overlook is a small park called Baycrest Park that you can walk around and enjoy. There are beautiful flower beds all around, restrooms and a gazebo that functions as an information center with brochures that you can take to help plan your trip. Homer is known as the Halibut fishing capital of the world. I had a great time fishing there and glad we made a stop at this viewpoint along the way. Baycrest Overlook Park is located right off of Sterling Highway and totally worth a quick stop if you have a few minutes to spare.
