I would recommend staying here as it has a full kitchen, beds for 7 or possibly 8. We had good hot water, bathroom with tub and shower and a table to play games at. Very fun cabin to stay in for our grandson who really enjoyed having his own place in the loft with a HUGE bed. The location was very close to where our fishing charter went out of at Deep Creek Recreation Area. We took 2 day trips to Homer and enjoyed the spit and Alaska Islands and Oceans Visitor's Center. It isn't a high end place, think more of a basic cabin to sleep a crew if you have one or a few as there were just 3 of us. It is really a great place for exploring the area around Ninilchik. We loved spotting 2 mama moose with their young just down from the cabin on 2 different occasions. The owner is a wonderful host and we had a great visit with him. The campground hosts were also extremely helpful when the owner was away.

For my first evening in Homer, AK, I was looking for a place to stay and discovered Mariner Park pretty easily through the app on my phone called, Campendium. It's $20 to camp for the night, which is pretty standard for any campground. Upon entering, the Registration Board said to find an unoccupied site, park your vehicle and then return back to the entrance area where there's an auto-payment kiosk which accepts cash or credit card. For this Mariner Park Campground, it was pretty crowded when I spontaneously arrived about 7pm over the summertime. At first, I was uncertain if I'd find an available campsite, but luckily, I did. What I noticed was, there were two distinct sections to the campground... - The right-hand side offered sites against the scenic waters and snowcapped mountains set in the distance. These were certainly the preferred campsites for obvious reasons. - The left-hand side of the campground offered sites beside Homer Spit Road. And this is where I found a spot that hadn't been taken yet. But what was deflating about these campsites situated against Homer Spit Road was how little spacing you had between yourself and the sites next to you. There was zero privacy that it was almost impossible to avoid meeting your camping neighbors, or even just trying to lounge outside without watching kids running around in every direction. To say things were a little cramped, would be quite the understatement, lol. Each campsite had firepits for barbecuing and picnic tables, but with all the wonderful seafood restaurants offered in Homer, it was much better to drive the Spit Road and purchase dinner in downtown. Although the campground road was not paved, the campsites were set on grass which made for comfortable sections setting up tents. I was surprised by how my night went here. Usually, I fall asleep easily and have no issues with the surroundings. But the noise from cars driving on Homer Spit Road was noticeably loud and distracting that I never had a fulfilling evening's rest. Plus, I underestimated how cold it got at night. I for sure could have used my portable Mr. Heater Buddy to warm myself from the elements. But I was too lazy to leave my sleeping bag and grab it out of the car in the middle of darkness, lol. Some extra notes... - There were just vault toilets for bathrooms. - No showers. - Unfortunately, no AMP powered campsites to recharge appliances. - This is a first come, first served campground. They do not accept reservations ahead of time. - There was a sign stating that campground attendants make rounds twice a day, but I never noticed anyone. - They don't offer refunds, but "rain checks" may be requested. Overall, this Mariner Park was fine as a campground. It served its purpose for the night, but aspects about it could have been better. I decided not to return here for a 2nd evening after finding more worthwhile areas along Homer Spit to stay at for the remainder of my time in Homer.

Bathrooms were super clean, some of the cleanest I've seen. Firewood is for sale for $5 at the camp host site if you need some. When we arrived the place was dead, which we didn't know was a good thing or a bad thing. By 9pm we could hear a few more people show up but our site was covered with trees we couldn't see them and vice versa. Overall, really nice place and has many secluded sites to choose from. Price is $15 a night and check out is noon. General store is up the road less than 5 miles in case you need to pick up last minute things. Will definitely come again if we're in the area.

Like Porcupine Campground in Hope, Ninilchik is one of our favorite places to retreat from the…read moreworld during our time off. Its quiet, remote, and not many know about it. You need to take EVERYTHING you need with you. Wood, drinkable water, food, etc. They do have pit toilets and a dump site though. This is a very small site with only 13 campsites, and there are a LOT of state parks in the area that can accommodate various preferences within a short distance, so if this one is full, you'll have no problem finding something nearby. All the sites can accommodate an RV or tent, however there are no pullthroughs. In my opinion this is one of the few campsites that does a good job of meeting the needs of both equally and the sites are nicely spaced. Like all state run sites, there are no plug ins. Sites are $20 a night, with $5 for extra vehicles. This location has a digital pay site. NOTE: At the time of my writing, in 2025, we have visited about 20 state sites in the Kenai Peninsula and none of the camphosts had wood for sale. This appears to be the new norm. So come prepared. I have noticed that grocery stores are charging an exorbitant amount for wood ($9!). Look along roads for locals selling wood with self pay cash sites for 5 or 6 dollars.

The grounds included a bbq gazebo, picnic table, adirondack chairs, and to great delight a spa overlooking the Bay with a crisp view of snow capped mountains and vaguely the Spit. There is also the quaintest inset wood walk going part way down the bluff with access to the beach. Our rooms' quality and impeccably clean furnishings continued the luxurious aura. From decor to amenities, our stay had us feeling pampered. Rest came easily in the crisp quality bedding. And relaxation was plentiful as we created each day reposing over steaming coffee in the upholstered chairs with beautiful Bay views from our room. Evening was slow and easy after a soak in the spa and wrapping in the luxe robes provided. Among other activities, we enjoyed the -5 low tide pools at Bishops Beach. Biking the walk/bike path out onto the Spit. Flagship Creamery has the cutest mini $.75 ice creams for kids and a "blow your mind" crepe bomb for the adults, don't miss the bubble station on the deck while you're there! Calvin and Coyle Trail and the Karen Hornaday Park were more family favorites. Our favorite eats were Two Sisters Bakery, Wild Honey Bistro, Alibi, Captain Patties, and Cosmic Kitchen. The "Stay Awhile" vibe was strong our entire time at The White House Inn. Five out of Five recommend.

Out of all three tent sites, tent site three is the most exposed and not in the trees, so I'd recommend other sites besides tent 3. I was very impressed that there was showers, restrooms and even a dishwashing station. The cherry on top is that the KOA is above the water at a high elevation to overlook the water and mountains.

Location: up on the hill with amazing views of the spit, water, volcanoes, etc.. A little further from downtown and definitely not walkable, but the views were worth it. They also sometimes have moose and various birds on the front lawn. Room: We stayed downstairs in the connected Portside and Starboard rooms. There were 3 of us, so this was more comfortable than just one room. There were 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a full sized kitchen with refrigerator and stove, and a small patio area. No living room area so any social activities (such as playing a game or cards) would be done in the kitchen. Beds were comfortable. Heater was adjustable. Each room had a TV with cable. You could hear people walking above you, but it was not too disturbing. It was a bit odd that there were wine shelves in the bathroom. Shower had warm water. Overall, the rooms were clean and had nice personal touches. Breakfast: you eat breakfast in the main house with other guests and the hosts, Steve and Juxia. Juxia cooks breakfast which for us was a fritatta, coffee (which Steve is focused on perfecting, although is a bit elusive about his 'blend'), reindeer sausage, yogurt with fruit on top, and delicious homemade wheat bread with strawberry compote spread. It was great meeting the other guests. Hospitality: Steve and Juxia were great. They greeted us when we arrived and sat us down to tell us about the area and pay the bill. Their house has dozens of beautiful keepsakes, each with its own story. There is a large screen TV with hundreds of movies. The hosts welcome you into their main home to watch tv, play the piano or hear more about local attractions. Both hosts were very friendly and full of information. They also love their dog, a collie, who is showcased in all their brochures/emails. Website has a lot of information, but could use an upgrade. Prices were very reasonable, at least in the winter. Free wifi with good connection.
