Once again they are punctual (we arrived on time and there was no wait). Wonderful doctors who are knowledgeable and know their way around dogs. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Our pups actually love it here. Low stress environment.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We came back for a follow up. I noticed they have a "kitty waiting area" which is very cute. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Treats at the front desk. Our pup stood up to salute the receptionist (and the treat).[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

[[HIGHLIGHT]]I truly don't have enough words to express my gratitude for the incredible team at Clarendon Animal Care--especially Casey (so sorry if I am misspelling your name), who so kindly and calmly fielded two panicked phone calls from me in the past week. Her empathy, patience, and genuine concern for my pup's well-being brought me so much comfort during an incredibly stressful time.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] After Kliffy underwent a procedure at another area hospital and I was met with dismissiveness and rudeness when I raised post-op concerns, Clarendon was my first call--and thank goodness. Even though I was an emotional mess, they handled everything with grace and urgency, and coordinated with Urgent Animal Care of Arlington so Kliffy could be seen immediately. That decision truly made all the difference in his recovery. I've always known my boys were in the best hands here, but this experience reaffirmed it tenfold. Thank you to everyone who has cared for Kliffy and Kevin over the years--especially Dr. Plough and Dr. Carr--for being the kind of veterinary team that treats pets (and their humans!) like family. You are such a blessing to our community.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]A first visit with our first puppy was great.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Hermes was very calm with the vet and assistants. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Dr Tanner answered all our questions as newbies and gave great guidance on what is to follow.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Note that the free parking (4 spaces) can be hard to secure as this practice is busy.

Wellness check up this am with Dr Valentine - the best vet ever, and Rooster's favorite.

Dr. Valentine is the best! And our doggo absolutely adores her! We usually schedule our visits a week in advance and they are typically on schedule, and seldom running late. They've also been super helpful with recommendations for our pup when he had an accident and needed to get surgery on his paws.

I had to come back to write a review after moving away from the area because we miss this vet SO MUCH! If you are looking for a vet that genuinely cares and wants your dog to actually enjoy the vet, this is the place to come. They are a fear-free clinic and my dog LOVED coming in. He was always treated so well and as a very high-energy dog they always had something on hand to keep him distracted when they did their thing. Our dog loves going to the vet and it is all because of this vet right here. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They are also so good about getting you in as soon as possible when things pop up.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] If I could transport this vet to our new city I would, they are remarkable and they make your pet feel safe, happy and loved.

What is the cost of the USDA Vet Exam and Certificate here?

This area of Clarendon Animal Care's Yelp Business page is not monitored. Please call or email the hospital directly for answers to your questions!

Does Clarendon Animal Care offer boarding?

Hi Thomas! Unfortunately, we do not offer overnight boarding due to our building licensing and restrictions. Thanks for reaching out, and don't hesitate to call us if you have further questions regarding our services! 703-997-9776

I just got a new puppy recently, and will be taking him to Clarendon Animal Care for his second round of DHPPC shots (he already had the first round before I got him). Does anyone know how expensive a round of these shots is at this vet? Thanks!

Switch vets-- this place has started overcharging for everything since they renovated

How are the prices here compared to other vets in the area?

A little higher. The visit price for my dog is $75, which is above local options, but not by that much. For me, it's proximity to where I live is worth the premium.

I never felt pressured by her and always knew Kami was getting the absolute best care ever. I've recommended her to all of my friends and honestly leaving her was a top 3 con to moving out of state. Here's a good example of why I'll never use any other vet - I take my dog here for routine visits and immunizations but went there recently when his separation anxiety became more of an issue than in the past. The vet (Dr. Campfield) spent a lot of time with me and Rico (my dog) discussing the best strategy to use to help ease his anxiety. We came up with a plan and, in addition to some training, part of it was a small tranquilizer for occasional use to help ease him into the idea of being left alone. It worked like a charm which, along with some training tips she recommended, made him much calmer. Soon, he should be able to spend some time alone with no medicinal help. The most impressive part of this? She personally called me the next day around 6pm to see how he was doing! I've never had that happen before and it really made me feel like she cared about him and how her suggestions were working. She could have just waited in case I called her to tell her whether it was working or not but she proactively reached out to me. That is definitely the caring part of Caring Hands.

My Merlin Cat collapsed and began seizing in the morning of Jan 6, so I immediately grabbed him and drove to Del Ray Hospital (much closer than my usual cat clinic in Kingstowne). Their current policy is to call ahead so they can let you in during an appointment, but when I knocked frantically at their door, with Merlin Cat in my arms wrapped in a thick towel to keep him warm. One of the staff quickly opened the door and ushered me in, asking what I needed and what had happened. I don't even remember exactly what I said, but they immediately took him to the back while another person took me to an exam room. Unfortunately, Merlin Cat was gone and I just lost it completely. One of the staff (and I am so sorry I can't remember any of their names), stayed with me while I cried, and another person brought Merlin in the room so I could say my goodbyes. They told me to take my time and let them know when I'm ready. I was there for nearly an hour, and they just periodically checked in, spoke about logistics when I was calm, but mostly gave their sympathy while my bf and I cried over our boy. He was only 7, and I'd expected to have 10+ more years with him. They took very good care of Merlin, even though this was our first time with them. They treated a grieving owner with kindness. When I picked up Merlin's ashes and pawprint, the lady who handed them to me just held my hand and expressed her sympathy again. Then I got a lovely sympathy card from the staff. I haven't read it yet, I'm not ready, but I appreciate gesture so much. So for being so kind and so empathetic and for their sincere sympathy, thank you. As our dog grew older, we have recently caught major gaps in the care for seniors. A new chronic condition was caught later than it should have been and not managed appropriately. Common side effects were not checked for, despite being in her records. Routine tests for this condition were not checked and even after I followed up, neither vet I spoke with suggested doing those tests. This was caught after a trip to the emergency vet, and when I e-mailed explaining that my dog had been in the emergency vet and asking if she had had certain tests at either of her appointments in the last six months. I got a one-sentence follow up saying that they didn't do those tests. No check in, no inquiry about how my dog was doing, no offer for follow up care. We have switched and can no longer recommend them for anything other than one-off issues or vaccines. The young, rotating vets do not seem set up for success here.

Unethical business and they do not care about your animal's wellbeing:…read more I am writing this to warn other pet owners about the shocking lack of empathy and professionalism we experienced at Suburban Animal Hospital during one of the hardest moments of our lives. Our dog recently had an ultrasound for concerning stomach issues. The vet called to deliver devastating news: possible cancerous tumors. As any distraught pet owner would, we spent the call asking questions to understand the treatment options and the gravity of the diagnosis. It contained three separate options, each one complex with surgical costs on the table, so we wanted to ensure we had a grasp of what lies ahead. At the 30-minute mark, Dr. Gasper abruptly told us she "had to go" and was belitting that we could not seem to gain complete clarity on the recommendations. When my husband, understandably shocked and visibly frustrated, asked why, she stated that "it's already been half an hour" and could not continue to clarify his treatment options. When he asked to finish the consultation so we could leave knowing our next steps, Dr. Gasper refused. From this point on, the remaining conversation understandably turned contentious and was shortly ended. Later that day, Dr. Gasper chose the following course of treatment for our dog: Retaliatory Termination of Care: A few hours later, we received an email stating they were terminating care for our dog effective immediately due to a "harsh phone conversation." Patient Abandonment: When we asked for the best way to transition to effective treatment now that our dog is in a medical crisis, they chose not to respond or help. They simply sent over his records. A veterinarian's primary duty is care to the animal and to abandon one during a potential cancer finding because of a disagreement with the owner reveals this hospital's priorities. If they actually cared about our dog, this disagreement would have easily been settled once they allowed us to take in the devastating news and gain clarity around our options. Instead, we hit a time limit, got frustrated, and got fired. Now that we have found better care at Clarendon Animal Hospital, we are happy to never return here.

I brought him to Fairfax Animal Hospital for what I understood to be a small, single area procedure that Dr. Catherine Curry and I discussed The first thing I said at consult was "Miles has diabetes." It never came up again. Pricing was quoted at $2,800 to $3,000. I explained I had $2,000 on CareCredit. I was told "we can do that." No clear discussion of staging. I understood this as a focused treatment with maybe a few extractions The only debrief I ever got from the surgeon was a text: "He did great. We took 35 teeth! He has 6 left." No surgeon conversation at pickup. A tech handed him over. No diabetes specific plan. No warning about the critical tripwire for a senior diabetic after oral surgery: if he refuses a meal it is an emergency. That rule was never said, written, or confirmed Discharge said appetite loss for 24 to 48 hours was "not unusual." They prescribed carprofen, an NSAID that can cause nausea and is labeled "give with food," with no anti nausea med and no "hold if not eating" instruction. I went home believing recovery would be hard but safe. The dangers Miles was in was not communicated at all to me! When he refused meals, I thought it was normal recovery. I was never told how the rules changed for a diabetic senior after such a surgery. By Day 11 I called and reported weakness and minimal intake. I was told to email because the doctor was busy. No ER escalation advice. Miles died the next day at home In hindsight: no candidacy or risk disclosure, no consent to a scope change, no surgeon debrief, no diabetes focused plan, no tripwire warning, and meds without safeguards. Had I been told the truth, that as many as 35 teeth might be removed and that a missed post op meal is an ER level emergency for a 14 year old diabetic, I would not have agreed to surgery In my opinion, this was not just poor communication, it shows a disregard for obvious diabetic red flags. I feel grossly misled, and Miles paid the price
