There is free parking along the street and some retail shops and restaurants nearby. The coffee shop wasn't open this early - maybe next time. The front of the marker reads, "Clarendon County. Five SC governors have come from this area, which was part of the Parish of St. Mark (1757) and Camden District (1769) before becoming Clarendon County in 1785. The county was then part of Sumter circuit court district (1799) before becoming Clarendon District (1855) and finally Clarendon County again in 1868, taking its name from the Earl of Clarendon, one of the original Lords Proprietors of Carolina." And the reverse, "Manning. Manning, established in 1855 as the seat of Clarendon District, was incorporated in 1861, its town limits extending 1/2 mile from the courthouse in all directions. In 1865, the town was partially burned by Union troops under General Edward E. Potter. About two blocks N. of here on Church St. is the grave of Pvt. Josiah B. Pratt, one of Potter's soldiers, who was killed in this foray only a few days before Lee's surrender at Appomattox." In retaliation, my spouse filed separate support and maintenance, claiming "irreconcilable differences." I had a valid counterclaim for divorce, custody, and support. I submitted substantial evidence to prove his allegations against me to be false/libel. Additionally, I provided that he was mentally ill, assaulting our children, and intentionally endangering their lives (kicking us out of our home) to gain the upper hand in the current custody pursuit. And you know what that judge did? He granted him temporary custody 2 weeks later, pending guardian ad litem. And you know what my spouse did the day he got that judge's signature? Had me arrested for the kidnapping he was on the scene committing. So I filed a cause to show contempt nearly two weeks ago, because law enforcement is no help for "civil matters." And you know what the court has done about the parental kidnapping and multiple violations of our protection orders? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

Entry usually is from the parking garage attached to the back of it,…read moreafter which you go through two sets of metal detectors to get to the vending snack bar on the first floor or any of the courtrooms (on upper floors such as the f, Probate Court or other business offices such as those of the Clerk of Court Julie Armstrong (a great Clerk of Court, BTW) When entering from the parking garage, before going to the second metal detector (with Sheriff's deputies manning them), you have to go back outside (covered walkway, so you won't get rained upon) and then come back in, a fairly recent change. This seems to have been a change when those charged with a crime have to come in and check with an officer at a desk before the second metal detector. Of course, you can enter from Broad Street (the actual address of this courthouse is 100 Broad Street) and then you only have one set of metal detectors to go through, but where do you park your vehicle on Broad Street? Good luck with that. After a decade or so, this courthouse still seems fresh and new, having been well maintained.

Nothing like the Four Corners Monument we visited in 2012 that marked the quadripoint in the Southwestern US (where the states of AZ, CO, NM, and UT meet). No, this four corners intersection are made of historic buildings -- Courthouse and US Post Office,, State Courthouse, City Hall, and the St. Michael's Church. 1- United States Post Office and Courthouse - 1896 Post Office, representing the federal government 2- State Courthouse - this 1792 courthouse represents county government 3- City Hall -symbolizes city government which begun in 1800 4- St. Michael's Church - the church was built between 1752 and 1761 and depicts ecclesiastical law These amazing historic structures are located on the southwest corner intersection of Meeting and Broad Streets in downtown Charleston. For our Monday visit the streets were pretty empty due to Covid and I was able to get some nice shots of the buildings. First, though, this one is *NOT* called the courthouse, but as noted, it is now the Georgetown County Judicial Center and is located at 401 Cleland Street, Georgetown, SC 29440. This newer and much, much more modern facility has been opened for at least five (5) years.

With plenty of parking, then a quick stop for a security check, service offices are just a turn down the hall. Of course, there's always a wait at the DMV; however, across the hall at the Auditorium/Treasurer, there's never a wait, in fact, there's rarely a line. The employers are all pleasant and I'm walking out with receipt in hand in under two minutes.

On the front, "Colleton County Courthouse. The original section of this courthouse, completed in 1822 after the county seat moved to Walterborough from Jacksonborough, was built by contractor William Thompson. The front portico is attributed to Robert Mills, who completed an unfinished design by William Jay. The courthouse was in such poor condition within a few years, however, that it was extensively renovated in 1843-44." On the reverse, "Colleton County Courthouse. This courthouse, listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1971, is built of brick covered in stucco to imitate stone. It was enlarged in 1916 by a frame wing on the west elevation. In 1937-39 a project of the Works Progress Administration covered the west wing with brick, built a new brick wing on the east elevation and an addition on the north entrance, and remodeled the interior. Erected by the Colleton County Historical and Preservation Society, 2001" Walterboro is the county seat of Colleton County, which is named after Sir John Colleton, 1st Baronet, one of the eight Lords Proprietor of the Province of Carolina.
