I don't often review hotels; however, this page needed a recent review. Centrally located, this place is in a great spot. It is also feet from two of the busiest streets/roads in the area. Expect vehicle noise and the ever present squeals of emergency vehicles; even on the non-street side of the facility. The front desk and dining area people were friendly and generally helpful. The pool guard needed to lighten up. The pool closes at 9 PM. We were sitting near the pool (not using it) and he felt the compulsion to order us out of the pool, as we were already headed back to our rooms. He should have stuck to his cigarettes and swilling coffee. The pool area was actually the high point of the facility. While it could have used some paint, it was clean. The pool has a deep end (8ft) you don't get in a lot of hotel pools. The hot tub was appropriately heated and large enough to seat about 8. It could have used some cosmetic work and cleaning. There is ample parking in the private lot around the hotel. It seemed like a pretty safe area. Although, two lots away there was a bit of the homeless population hanging around. Like the rest of the facility, a street sweeper through the lot would have improved the aesthetics of the lot. The breakfast buffet is not only not a buffet, it was brutally bad. From the fake scrambled eggs, bad coffee and inedible sausages, it went downhill for me. I was told the waffles were good, but I had my doubts. During my seven night stay, I only visited once. Allegedly the dining area is a bar and restaurant in the evening. I can't confirm as there was no way I was visiting it to find out. The biggest issue I had during my stay was about cleanliness and maintenance. In both areas, it has been largely ignored. The hotel is obviously older; however, daily cleaning and some regular maintenance, may make the place a 2.5 star hotel. If you need a place to stay during your visit, this place will work. The beds were nice and the television was decent. Plan to eat out and to only use it as a place to lay your head at night. They only clean rooms and replace towels every three days. It would seem this policy is what has led this to become a weak, two star hotel. read more

This a was DEF ONE of the WORST STAYS I've had, even before COVID-19 THE front desk clerk when I checked out brought her personal problems to work and took it out on me!... I'm only guessing this, because she treated me like the ASS end of a donkey. I actually had to call Choice Customer Service to have a copy of my room bill for this terrible stay! *I placed the 'DO NOT DISTURB' Sign in the door when I went out to get some essentials at Wal-Mart, and when I got back, Maintenance had gone into my room to replace a TV...!! *THAT'S WAS NOT SO BAD EXCEPT THAT I HAD A LOT OF PERSONAL EXPENSIVE ITEMS ON THE ROOM DESK. ---WHEN I GOT BACK, NOTHING WAS MISSING. I'm a Diamond member. I stay at many Choice Hotels. I stayed at this hotel regularly for over a year. It's an older hotel and it's got it's charm. Many of the people at the front desk were nice. Some employees were downright evil. One time I tried to check in and the woman at the desk was on the phone and apparently babysitting her kid at the time. I waited patiently for 10 minutes before I politely asked if there was a problem and she barked at me "I'M ON THE PHONE SIR" So I waited another 10 minutes. Ok people have bad Days. The room keys are spotty at best. I often finish work in the middle of the night. The night time guy gave me attitude every time I needed to fix my non functioning key. One time I needed maintenance to get me in. The entire key mechanism was on the floor. The last time I stayed there I was clearly pissed my key didn't work again in the middle of the night. That same night guy says "Here we go again" as if the non functioning key was my fault. I was obviously exasperated and wanted my key fixed. The late night securtiy lady said "Do Not Approach me sir!" What??? I sleep during the day because I work at night. The room around me was going through major construction. Nothing but "deal with it" attitude when I called the front desk. New Years Eve they cancelled my reservation. New Year's Eve!!! No notice!! Brutal!! I had to scramble for a hotel miles away. When I called Clarion headquarters, it was reported back to me that I had been "abusive to the staff". It's a decent hotel at a decent price. I would rate my experience negative 5 stars if I could - nothing to do with the room or facilities or food - 100% of this is due to Marcy at the front desk. We arrived - waited over 25 minutes - was very nice to her got our key and went to our room. The hotel is a non-smoking hotel but the room smelled of smoke that had been sprayed with a strong scented cleaner to try to mask the smell - sort of like a Las Vegas Casino. When we went back to the desk - that's when Marcy showed her true colors. We asked for a room change and were told to wait. She kept on helping others online customers as they came in and ignoring us. When we complained she started yelling at us - telling us if we don't like the way she is doing things we can leave. Sent only yelled at us - but starting yelling - loudly - at a blind woman who's service do got away from her for a moment - even after the woman explained she was blind and apologized - Marcy kept yelling at her - in front of 6 or 7 other customers waiting online. I used to love the Clarion but unfortunately, there is only one night staff and a broken elevator, so there is absolutely no help and no way to carry heavy luggage up lots of stairs to your room, risking falling on concrete stairs. There are no rooms to accommodate the ADA, so beware if you have a disabilty or any mobility issues. In addition, if you are from out of town, they do not tell you that you have to pay a security deposit upfront. So a room thst costs $155.00 will end up costing you $255.00 plus tax and whatever other charges they want to charge. The $100.00 refund is not immediately refundable. There is no way to contact management at night and god forbid you ask for any help. You are on your own. The staff are unhospitable and hostile. There is no working elevator to get to the 2nd floor which is very hard to get to without walking through the kitchen and a very dirty conference room. Staff decided to cancel my room.I already paid for and tied up over $255.00 with no receipts and no emails. Total public health hazard and worst customer service possible for seniors and the disabled. Beware. read more

When I went to the front desk the "Witch" that was there had lots of words but no answers. She would not get the manager and saw no problem with what had been done. There is a lot that could have been better about this place. The Grab n Go Breakfast is a bag full of carbs and sweets. If you're a diabetic, there is nothing in this bag for you. If you're looking for nutrition or a good healthy start to your day, skip the Grab n Go Breakfast. Look, the hotel can afford to heat the fairly large outdoor pool, but it can't afford to hire two part-time staff members to open the small breakfast buffet from 6-10am, Monday-Sunday. The Grab and Go Breakfast looks cheap, is cheap, and leaves a cheap taste in your mouth. Not a good message for a future return guest. My suite smelled strongly of bleach when I first entered. The room was clean. It was big too. It had a large balcony overlooking the pool deck area. Nice pool deck too. Nice pool and lounging area. The microwave turntable didn't fit the microwave quite right. Something didn't fit right. Lamp on the right side of the bed didn't work. Switched the working light bulb from the lamp on the left to lamp on the right, the lamp still didn't work. The bathroom was nice. Shower had a pretty cheap shower head installed. The shower faucet was held on with caulk. Overall impression, the entire place needs some updating. I will not be back. read more

BEYOND DATED! BEYOND GROSS! All I can say is...thank goodness it was only for one night. We were traveling from Sanibel to Clearwater. We needed a place for a quick rest. All I can say is we were better off leaving. It was a Monday night into Tuesday. We arrived at exactly 9PM. The gentleman at the front desk was polite. We reserved one of there "suites" We walked into a dark, dismal and dirty room. The sitting room area was scary looking and dim. There was a squished bug in the wall and the curtains were stained. The bedroom area was just a dismal. Linens were very old and had major pilling. We had four people in our "suite" with two towels. ( I disclosed this when making my reservation ) The front desk only had very small pool towels to replace regular towels and was clothes. This hotel has a pool, jacuzzi and splash area. Since we arrived late the pool was riddled with young kids (teenagers) partying into the night. I don't know if this is the norm. Our shower had major mold. The free breakfast was descent. It's has potential to be something nice but needs a major overhaul. We also had issues getting into our room. The key card mechanism didn't work. That had to be serviced. We found this place online by accident. For the ratings it was receiving and the price they were charging it seems to good to be true. The room was ok, your basic hotel room. At first I didn't like the sleep number bed (they have them in all rooms), but after sleeping on it, it actually was quite nice. Added bonus was they have a free breakfast for the $$ charged. And, a restuarant and bar on-site. Very rare to find in a hotel that charges a rate like this. Hotel was very clean, quiet and comfortable. read more

I did a lot of searching when booking my 3-night stay in Clearwater. Ideally, I would have liked to have stayed on the beach in Clearwater Beach, however that wasn't in my price range. I wanted a relatively short drive to that area, and it was about a 20 minute drive, which wasn't bad... you PAY to stay close to the beach, if you don't want to pay that amount, expect a drive, so I don't know why people complain this is no where near the beach and nothing is around here...if you do your research in advance, you will learn all of this. Moving on... I got a decent book in advance deal, however the amenities I booked this place based from weren't even up to par! For starters, the sleep number bed for my king size bed wasn't working...half of the bed was softer than the other half. The POOL was being worked on, and there was NO word of that on their website when I booked a few weeks in advance, but when I got my confirmation email a few days before my trip along with the message of "no cancellations, refunds, etc" was when I was informed of this. Nothing like traveling to Florida in April in mid 80-degree weather to maybe want some pool time, leaving me to drive to the beach, pay for parking, etc. I was NOT happy not being informed of this in advance. I didn't book my trip 6 months in advance either. One night during my stay, I got back from the beach and wanted to shower before heading back out for dinner, etc. only to find the water completely OFF. I called the front desk and they said it would be on within the half hour. Another mishap...not really happy about the timing of that. I'm also not sure why people look at this place as a hotel, it's not ... it's your typical motel made of 2-3 stories. The grounds are nice, the rooms are ok, the staff are nice, as well as the lobby. Again, you get what you pay for...overall it was a decent deal given the pool was there, and the sleep number bed worked. As for safety, I wasn't thrilled with being a female staying alone in a room all the way at the end in room 155, though I checked in late at night...and during my stay, I felt safe for the most part. And lastly, the staff in the bar/restaurant were super nice...I placed a few take out orders from there, the food was pretty good. I'm not sure why people are complaining about the breakfast - there were eggs, pancakes, cereal, bacon, sausage, muffins, etc. A LOT more than your typical continential breakfast, so one star for the breakfast alone. If I were to return to the Clearwater area, I saw other options nearby...I probably wouldn't stay here again, though I did mention some positives that may help others decide in the future. read more

I stayed here for 4 days/3 nights while visiting family in Florida. The hotel is easy to get to and I was able to check in an hour early. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I had a king suite on the second floor. The hotel is older but still nice. My room was spacious, clean and well stocked with a view of the pool. The bed was very comfortable and everything was in working order (hair dryer, microwave, alarm clock, mini fridge, air conditioners, table lamps and tv's). There was an unknown stain on a small portion of the curtains. The maid service was daily like clockwork and I was always given an ample amour of towels/pillows. The swimming pool was nice and well maintained. The downside was the WiFi. It kept dropping constantly which was kind of a pain. And a majority of the television stations didn't come in very clearly on the televisions in my room (2). But I would stay here again if I'm ever in the area again. read more

Well, we are used to Embassy Suites and DoubleTree, amd this property inside and out looked like a former DoubleTree. However, this is where it ended. This place is old and pretty much used out. It is owned by an investment LLC company, so I am sure it is just a cash cow. I wish to state that the desk, service and engineering staff were excellent! However, the place is very tired. VERY tired. We stayed for 4 nights and made our reservation through SWA. We arrived and were greeted with smiles,, and we had a King Suite. The lobby had an empty coffee pot and a water dispenser in the lobby. We walked to the elevator an up to our room. Sadly, NO towels! I saw a housekeeper and she apologized and said they ran out but she would get us some, and within 1/2 hour she returned with towels. I certainly tipped her $5.00 for her service. We had a styrofoam cooler filled with someone's left over snacks left in the hallway door 2 days. The room was TIRED! Carpet with missing splotches, electric cords hanging from the walls, doors, cracked and worn, toilet looks like it was painted, faucets barely operating and very loose, some lamp shades upside down, while others in proper position, A?C preset to a cold setting and not adjustable. Breakfast area small and dingy. There was crusty crumbs on the cereal dispensers, bacon SO SO VERY thin, it was like parchment paper. Coffee like colored water. However, the scrambled eggs were exemplary! Fresh, firm and tasty. The "restaurant" was a couple of tables, and the menu on a photo copied sheet of paper. Nothing really appealing or anything or any place that I would eat. Drinks were reasonably priced, but again, I wouldn't partake. Check in and check out pretty easy and painless, parking tight but adequate, housekeeping was great and thorough. However, location was good for us. Would I stay here agin, probably not. However if the franchise holder would invest a few dollars it could be brought back to acceptable standards. My husband and I stayed here for about a week in May 2018. WORST hotel I've ever had the displeasure of staying in. The room smelled SO bad, we ended up having to get many small candles from a store and light them while we were in the room, in an effort to get rid of the stench. The room constantly felt WET, the sheets, the carpet, EVERYTHING. I get that it's Florida but other hotels we stayed at in Florida did NOT have this issue. And if you have a properly working AC unit, it is supposed to get rid of the humidity in the air. I had to crank the AC way down in order for it to even feel somewhat comfortable. The worst part about this is that this is considered to be a baseball team hotel.. so these ball players stay here and the club owners should be ashamed to have their hard-working players staying in such a DUMP. After being denied our confirmed hotel reservation at another hotel, Expedia booked us this hotel. We could not have been happier. The front desk was extremely helpful and pleasant. I can't speak to their prices as we were booked at the same rate we booked our original hotel. I guess due to the mix up, Expedia bumped us up to a suite on the third floor. The hotel was clean and very comfy. They have sleep number beds and a mini kitchen in the suites. We overlooked the pool and jacuzzi area and had a little balcony that you could access from both rooms. This was nice as we propped the door open and let the March breezes cool the room. Every morn, there is a decent continental breakfast. Not bad for free. The hotel was quiet and most of the people there were in the 40 and over crowd, which meant no late night partiers. Lots of parking spots near your room. The only downfalls were that the tv in our bedroom didn't work (but why should you watch tv when you are visiting Florida) and the sleep number bed didn't work either...which was a disappointment since I always wanted to give them a try. Not the biggest deal since we still slept soundly. The location of this hotel is key. So close to Lenny's and Phillies Spring Training. I will surely stay here again if we go to Clearwater next year. read more

I stayed here during thanksgiving 2007 because my house was flooded with relatives and there was no where to sleep. So for peace and quiet I decided to book a room. I arrived pretty late at night. There was ample parking and I felt safe walking around at night. The lobby is very nice, I might even mistake it for a full service hotel. I booked on hotels.com, so I got a pretty decent rate. The gentleman at check in was great. I told him I just started to work at a nearby hotel. Hearing this he offered me an application, turns out he was the GM! I thought it was great that the GM was working the desk on a late night, really shows his dedication. My room was located on a high floor I don't remember the number but it had a pretty decent view. The room was spacious, one king bed, flat screen TV, very very clean and comfortable. Before you enter the room there are french doors that lead you to your room. I thought this was great if ever there was a noisy night the doors totally decreased the noise level. The wireless Internet was free and fast. My room was serviced perfectly and timely. I didn't try the restaurant, however it did look very nice. The room service menu was pricey and limited. If I ever travel back to this area to visit I would stay here again! read more

The place is falsely advertised. I would not place rate this as a 3 star hotel but rather a 2 star motel. You pull up using your car to your motel room, you walk up your own steps. Pros: Sleep number bed, adequate pool area, quiet, very close to clearwater mall. Cons: smells funny, I think they use some type of freshener to mask the smell of cigarette smoke (when the entire facility is supposed to be smoke free) I saw a redneck hanging outside with his door propped open in cut off jeans, shirt off. I thought to myself, "did I just rent from a cheap extended stay motel?" Smelly is an understatement for this hotel! If it's true that second hand smoke affects you then do not stay here. The rooms stink of cigarettes, the hallways, AC, curtains, even the front desk!! As I read the previous reviews, I don't understand how it would be possible to rate this hotel any higher than a 2 stars. Maybe my smell/clean standards are higher than most. As we walked into the room and put out things down, I removed the bed comforter - do you know why? Because it had cigarette burn holes. We laid towels on the carpet to walk, since it was very dusty. I spent 5 nights here recently and I must say that I definitely had a different opinion than the other reviews. We did get a newly renovated room so the room was nice. The husband and wife at the bar/grill were so nice and accommodating and definitely went out of their way for us. I read in reviews about shadiness outside the rooms but I absolutely didn't see anything out of the ordinary here. I was very scared about going here once I read the reviews but i must say I'm glad I did. I have to start off by saying that I didn't actually stay in this hotel, but I did go to a conference there last week. It was very nice place - the conference room was clean, and the staff was extremely friendly. The hotel staff greeted everyone in our group, took their drink orders, and got us whatever we needed to set up our presentation. They really went out of their way for us, and it showed. So, while I can't recommend this hotel for overnight visits, if you are looking to hold a conference or a meeting, this would be a good choice! read more

Breakfast in a bag. Not impressed when all the restaurants in the area are open. Rooms are clean but the grounds and lobby are atrociously dirty. Over flowing garbage cans debris all over the floor. What a pleasant surprise. I was arriving late PIE and this hotel was about 8 mile from the airport. Checking in was easy. The room was a good size, and clean, flat screen TV and a small fridge. The bed was king size with sleep master mattress and good pillows. The morning breakfast was substantial, bacon, potatoes, scrambled eggs, fresh Florida fruit salad, breads, cereals, juices and coffee. The person in charge of the breakfast was constantly overseeing his station making sure everything was hot and well stocked. There is a good size pool and jacuzzi I did not have time to use. There is a small bar and restaurant which I was not able to visit. Wi fi is free and easy to log on. This is a well run hotel and very good value for money. read more

Stayed here for the weekend for a Backgammon Tournament and the maid on Saturday morning was nice enough to knock on my door at 8:35 am to see if I was ready to have my room mad up? Then the room where we were playing Backgammon the air conditioner was broken so the room was over 80 degrees. Then I left my phone charger in the room when i checked out and the same aforementioned maid took it but never turned it into lost and found. summary:if you stay here they will wake you up early steal your stuff and during your meetings make you sweat like a pig.
