Crazy honest mechanics. No gaslighting, for real. Unfortunately for me I've had to take my Subaru in for a broken taillight housing, both front and back brakes and rotors replaced, burnt out light bulb in the taillight housing they replaced, oil change and both air filters, license plate light bulbs which I had no clue were out, new wiper blades. PLEASE GOD CAN WE STOP WITH THE REPAIRS ALREADY?!? I think I've seen them 4 times since October. Clark's has been very good to me. They used to do only Subarus but now it's open to any kind of car. The staff is super friendly and nice. I've had to sit in their waiting area to wait for my car and their door should be replaced with a revolving door cuz it's non stop customers! You can set an appointment to bring your car in but really they are super fast depending what you need done. The other bonus, for me was that I didn't have to take it to Nate Wade or Mark Miller. I don't trust car dealerships for maintenance. Weird right? Well I've been taken for a pretty good ride $$ when I've taken my car to a dealership. I also don't like the look the staff gives me when I tell them about my car issues. Clark's is respectful and nice and they will quote you an estimate but I feel like the estimate is right on when you pay your bill which, by the way, they accept Klarna and Affirm!! Beware never take your Subaru to this shop ever! I brought my Outback to get a overall look to see why and were my back rear driver side was sagging and a whine. They claimed the Rack was leaking and zero reason for the rear sag? Rack was replaced anfd the whine was still there and to not address the pump and the steering Is not straight still 6 times later the whine Is still there and the rear sag and there comment Is the year and miles which should not be a factor when I was ok to get these things done! So here these Isues are still going on and they will not fix the true Issue! They seem to be more Into the Normal Subaru thing STI,WRK and there own toys as well the Owners Baja before the customers! They treat your Subaru like garbage unless you know them personally or related! So now I can't get them to fix what they messed up and other shops won't touch It without redoing everthing! So seeing the 5 star reviews are mostly likely from the Familly and friends! This Is a harder job otherwise I would have done myself and never brought my Outback here and get worse and trash my Interior and not get the steering wheel straight and the don't care!!!!! As far as mechanics go, you couldn't ask for more. Except maybe that they serviced non Subarus too. We took our 2006 Subaru Impreza Outback here for 3 years until our Subaru was deemed totaled in a wreck and we've had to move on to another mechanic. I can't recommend Clarks enough though. They took great care of our car. They never did anything without consulting us and they always made sure this car was well taken care of. We will miss Clarks! Hot tip, they usually work by appointment. They are very popular and get pretty booked up. In an emergency situation, they have been known to accommodate us last minute but don't expect them to be there at midnight on a Saturday. If you can get your car there though, they do have a key drop that you can use if you let them know ahead of time. read more

And then just a few weeks ago - I was finalizing plans to drive from SLC to Denver one Friday night and in late afternoon, realized I was having issues with my headlights. I was under a tight deadline and stressed to get them fixed. The guys were responsive, told me to bring it in asap and they'd let me know if they could even fix it. Then lo and behold, the work was done within an hour and I was on my way to Denver. They fixed an electrical issue that my previous mechanic couldn't figure out! But the next time I went in for warning lights I explained to them how I had JUST replaced two things which did not fix the warning lights, and all they had to suggest was to replace them again. They also recommend replacing the transmission, brakes and struts for a bill higher than the car's value. I went to another mechanic and they said all three were totally fine. Car has no noticeable issues driving, just mystery warning lights. They just did not seem to listen to anything I said or wanted, just recommend highly expensive replacements that were unnecessary according to other mechanics. read more

So I live fairly close to Clarks Auto. I only have one car. I was really hoping they would be my new trusted Subaru Mechanic. I made an online appointment to get a comparison bid against the local Subaru Dealer and mechanical inspection. That way they can give me their opinion. I dropped it off early in the morning and let them know I need it back by 3:30 pm. When I arrived at 3:30. They had not even looked at it. I get that things happen but no communication or offering to resolve the issue is poor business. I am disappointed I wasted my time after reading so many good reviews. Got a quote that seemed astronomical at the time. Lo and behold, I did the math with 16 hours of Labor according to them and an $1,200 part OEM online. Seems they're charging minimum $500 an hour. My beloved '05 Forester started hiccuping and a few days later the 'check engine' light came on. UGH! Like most people know, this is a big stress. How fast can this be repaired, CAN it be repaired, and--have mercy-- how much will this cost? I opted not to go to a dealership for fear that they'd charge a lot more, so I Googled Subaru mechanics, read the reviews and chose Clarks. I interacted with two people during the course of the day my car was in for repairs. Both were very kind, knowledgeable, and enjoyable to talk with. I never felt talked down to, and I felt that they (especially the person who checked the car in) were listening. All told, it was about seven hours from the time I dropped the car off to the time I was able to pick it up again. When I first got the bill, I was pretty sure I had been way overcharged for spark plug replacement, but I googled the typical cost and what Clarks charged was actually the median amount, so that's cool. There was also a little "thank you" gift bag in the car when I got her back. Such a nice touch :) It's been about two weeks and my girl is running fine! I highly recommend Clarks. read more

I went here for a simple oil change. I called ahead to book an appointment since I was on a busy schedule. It took about .50 minutes. Upon completion, their clerk told me that I had a leaking water pump that needed to be replaced. He also told me that I needed a new air filter, new transmission fluid, and a tune-up with new spark plugs. And he put his findings in writing. What he didn't know is that I just had my transmission fluid changed a few months ago, as well as my air filter. The car also didn't need a tune-up as it was running fine. Upon further inspection, I found that the car doesn't exhibit signs of a leaking water pump with any of the usual indicators. If it did, it would have exhibited those issues well before I made the appointment. While I was waiting for the oil change to be completed, I noted that three other customers who had come in to pick up their vehicles complained that the "Check engine light" on their cars was still on, leading me to the belief that it's probably unwise to bring my car here for any serious work. I can't say that their clerks work on commission because I don't know that for a fact. Nor can I say that they intentionally lie and engage in business fraud with their customers, or monkey around with their cars when they shouldn't. read more

They ran tests on the problem that my engine exhibited to make sure it was safe to change out the head gaskets, and then gave me the most reasonable price I could find, and I did shop around. I chose Clarks because of good reviews here, but I am less than thrilled with their service. I took my car in for an oil change and to have the brakes checked, because they were starting to make some noise. The person I spoke with told me they would do a full inspection and not to worry. He neglected to mention the full inspection would cost $50. A lot of shops do complimentary inspections when other paid work is being done, so I was unpleasantly surprised by that charge. They called to tell me the rear breaks were shot and needed to be replaced. The total would be $375, which is a bit pricey for that service but not over the top. They also tried to get me to spend $900 on new front calipers, pads, and rotors, because the pads were "wearing unevenly". I declined that service but told them to go ahead and replace the back brakes. I went in the next day expecting to pay $375, but the bill came to $475, because of the $50 inspection fee, and because they charged me $27 to replace a light bulb they say they found burnt out. I don't recall any lights being burnt out, and light bulbs go for a buck or two at a parts store, but whatever. I got in my car feeling like I'd been played, and noticed the check engine light was on. I guess they somehow missed that in their comprehensive inspection. They must have also missed me reminding them to change the oil when I first brought the car in and when they called on the phone to under-quote and up-sell the brake job. How hard is it to perform the service requested, perform no additional service, and quote what you intend to charge? I'm not super disappointed, because this kind of behavior is typical for repair shops, but I will not be returning to Clarks. read more

I'll try and keep this brief, but I feel the whole story is kind of important...I took my 2008 wrx into Clark's for some engine trouble, which turned out to mean I needed to rebuild the engine, and have the heads rebuilt as well. I ended up having a few other things done, which came out to over $5k in parts and labor. Got the car back after, had a couple minor issues, then the turbo went out about 1,500mi after the rebuild. Got a new turbo (from a specialist), and went well for another 500 or so miles, until the engine again went out. I took the car back to Clark's, and they said they needed time to figure out what happened. It took some time, but they found a catastrophic problem with the engine. Because I had the engine tuned by someone else, they could have just told me they weren't responsible. Instead, the owner, Alan did a very honest thing. He found a way to get me an engine at almost no cost to me. That says a lot about his character, and although it took awhile to get my car back, he definitely kept his word. Came here just for an oil change. Usually I go to Reliable Auto Mechanics in Sandy, but my boyfriend said we had to take care of this RIGHT NOW, so we came here. They were pretty fast a friendly. The shop was busy, and within 45 minutes they were done. We just went across the street and got lunch at Arctic Circle while we waited. The oil change, with tax, came out to about $35, so definitely cheaper than going to a Jiffy Lube, but better quality than most places offering a$20 oil change. read more

I'd like to share an experience about Clark's Auto and why I highly recommend it. I recently got my safety and emissions test at another establishment -- after the tests I was informed that while I passed safety, I will need to get a new upper left control arm bushing to pass next year. So I shopped around to get a quote for a new bushing and subsequent alignment. I got a quote from the establishment which did my safety & emissions -- $438.61. The Honda dealer quoted me at $497.74. Clark's quoted me at $334.99. I went with Clark's. I picked up my car and was told that they didn't get the right part for just the bushing and had to replace the entire control arm. And the alignment machine wasn't working so that didn't get done. And the bill came out to be ~$360. Adding the alignment would have been more expensive than the other place I usually go to altogether. I paid and went on my way to a dinner appointment. I later went to call Clark's as I felt a little bit baited-and-switched and saw the owner Alan has his email on the website so I emailed him directly and explained my situation. He was grateful to have a chance to rectify my issue and offered me an alignment and oil change for free ($124.99). I gladly accepted. I'm really happy Alan responded with a good resolution and even went the extra mile. Outstanding customer service! I'll definitely get any work done with them I may need going forward. read more

My air conditioner went out on my Honda Civic and I took it to a dealership. They told me I had a bad wire but that they couldn't repair it. My only option was to replace the compressor for $1200. If you need a car fixed, go here! My service code was saying I needed to fix my catalitic converter, knock sensor and a seal leak. When Cody at the Millcreek location pulled my codes he told me I could pay to fix all those things for about $1,000, OR he offered to put in an engine cleaner for 35$ because it could make my catalitic converter work again. It worked! Any other shop would never have offered that and just told me I had to pay the 1K to fix everything. That is a sign of a good mechanic right there, he's not out for the money but was actually wanting to help fix my car. :) read more

My 2010 Subaru Forester gave up it's transmission as we were returning from vacation, and we got a local reference to Clark's Auto who really went to bat for us. We got the vehicle towed to their location on Thursday morning, and by that afternoon they had an estimate, and on Friday they had the parts and had most of the work done. They finished Monday morning and did a free diagnostic for other issues they found on the vehicle. Throughout the process I had contact with the shop and they were honest and clear about where I was in the process. I have to say that reading the other reviews for this company was very impressive, and they held up their reputation very well. You never want to jinx a company by being too upbeat about the experience, but there are not a lot of bad reviews here, and there is a reason for that. They do good work. I recently sold my Subaru and had taken this car to Clark's for years. Before I sold the car they did a comprehensive check to make sure everything was ok and then gave me a few recommendations for items that could be done. I used these recommendations as the foundation of the pricing for the car and then shared the summary of these items with the couple that purchased the car. Several months later, the couple had some questions about the car and we were able to work together with Clark's so that they could solve an unexplained issue they were having with the check engine light. They had taken the car to the Subaru dealership as well as several other mechanics and had spent a good amount of money and had not yet been able to figure out what the issue was. Within several hours Clark's had their answer and provided a very helpful overview and reasonable price for the fix for the car. Ultimately, I was worried that my credibility would have been on the line if my car had turned out to have a large issue. I am so grateful that I had taken my Subaru to Clark's for years and they were able to come through in a big way for the new owners of the car.
