In regard to the owners comments: The sound was present - always. In addition I asked them to do an alignment, as I had uneven wear on the outside of the drivers front tire. They said all work was done, I ask for the printout of the before and after readings, you man went back then said the printer wasn't working. It was then I knew you didn't do it. Looking at the receipt it wasn't mentioned/charged for. I took it to the other mechanic and he said the alignment couldn't be done because the upper control arm was badly worn. Showed me how out of alignment it was. Paid to have both upper control arms replaced and the alignment was then perfect. I should have elaborated more in my first comment. You or your man lied to me. You will no longer have my business. I trusted you guys for a long time. But with the simple stuff, you are incapable otherwise. read more

I was looking for a cheap place to get my emissions test done. I found Excel Automotive on a Groupon. So I decided to call and see what the stipulations were for the Groupon before I bought it. The man I spoke to was Richard and he was very friendly. So told me he would honor the Groupon and to schedule an appointment to come in. I got pulled over that day so I was given the next day in the morning. My appointment was for 9:30am. I just filled out a few and they took the car back. The test cost $20 bucks and $4 bucks to do the on the spot. And boom that was it. It took them 25 minutes to do the test and it was quick. I highly recommend coming here. It's off of state street and very convenient. The waiting area is great and nice. Not a shady place of town. read more

I only wish I'd found this place sooner. I've taken my car here three times now, and each time they've been great to work with. They're quick to get you in, they thoroughly discuss everything before they do it, they're prices are reasonable, and they're the most honest mechanics I've worked with. I once went in for a brake change and they informed me that I could go three more months before needing them replaced. This time I went in for four new tires, new brakes, an oil change, and a multi-point inspection before I drive 1,600 miles next month. They did an incredible job and assured me that my car is ready for the cross-country trek. They called to discuss prices and everything before they started, and really went the extra mile to get everything done. They also detail everything on the invoice before you pay. My only complaint is that they won't be in Michigan when I move there! I'd definitely recommend Excel to anyone, and often do. read more

Many of us have owned Saturns for years, and are on our second or third one. We've got high people expectations. The Saturn experience was unlike any other car buying or owning experience. Saturn treated you the way they treated their employees at the start of things. Like you mattered. We're value conscious. Many of us could own "better" cars, but know that Saturns gave the best and safest bang for the buck, ever. And we're sad. General Motors killed our car line. And nearly killed themselves along with it. Saturn closed its doors a couple of years ago. So where to get your Saturn fixed if you're in SLC? Excel. I'd bookmarked them for my 1999 SL2 if I'd ever need them. Today, I needed them big time. And they came through big time. Radiator overheating. Antifreeze leaking. Could be anything from ill fitting radiator cap to blown gasket. Called Excel. They said they were too busy to take me. How about tomorrow? I explained I'm starting a long car trip tomorrow or the next day. They said, come on in, we'll fit you in somehow. They did. And they did a thorough diagnosis without me having to wait very long. Turned out it was neither cap, nor gasket, but a blown sensor that wasn't reading my engine temp properly. They switched it out, it took all of 90 minutes from start to finish, and I walked out of there less than $200 out of pocket, including diagnosis. All on a day when they were overwhelmed. if you have a Saturn? This is now your joint. If you have another car? Call them and see if they work on it. You've looked for an honest mechanic for so long. If you are anything like me, you had gone pretty darn wary of Mechanics and/or anyone in the automotive industry. It doesn't help when you are a girl who doesn't know much about her vehicle and as such, end up getting taken advantage of every so often. You go in to replace your windshield wipers and you leave with a new engine....Who knew? I have had a particularly hard time finding a place where I can get a good honest oil change. I gave up on those big box places years ago after I discovered my car usually had MORE problems AFTER the oil change than it did before. Not that I could ever prove it...It's possible that my car just hates oil changes... When a friend recommended Excel Automotive I called and set up an appointment for an oil change that same day. I ended up talking to the owner who seemed very Real and down to earth. I also learned that if you go on Google and give them an honest review, they will knock $10 off of your oil change cost...Bonus! For a regular oil change (around $30 minus $10) this is a great deal. I took my car in and while I was waiting, I had a chance to meet the owner. As far as I can tell, he seems like a man who truly cares about his business and goes above and beyond to make his clients happy. I've been here multiple times, and they were always wonderful. I recently had my clutch replaced by a different group, and new issues popped up. I took it in to Excel and they found easy fixes that they did not charge for. I asked about a tune up, and they made sure I was well-educated before making any choices. After the tune-up my darling Subaru WRX was a happy car. Recently I had to take it back in due to a serpentine belt squealing. Because the belt had been replaced during my tune-up they tightened the belt at no cost. Sometimes car care can be costly, that comes with a car. But these guys are incredibly honest and caring, no matter the issue. Their mechanics have excellent experience, and listen to your concerns, then give you honest feedback and options, and respect your choices. I had a bad experience with these guys. They advertise on a station that I listen to on the radio, and have been an avid listener for many, many years. Needless to say I trust these folks on the radio, they've never steered my wrong before. The 'ol saying there's a first time for everything comes to play here. I was seriously miss led. I was experiencing a little overheating issue with my Jetta, and didn't know where to turn. So I took the advice of the radios hosts and ventured in. They were very accommodating with my schedule, and nice on the phone. So I dropped my car off in the morning, and told them I'd come by later that day to pick it up, or have them work on it. The tech called me and said, "well the fan motor is bad on your radiator fan, and you'll need to replace it. the cost is $689.73." I declined the service, and the gentleman said come on down and pick it up. The charge was $50 for the diagnosis. I was so thrown off by the cost to replace the fan motor, and figured I'd do a little research into the issue. Well about ten minutes into my search I found a typical issue with my make and model, and a way to test said issue. After preforming the test found out what the issue was. A simple relay that needed to be replaced, and the motor ran just fine. $3 later and about 30 minutes of my time, I saved my car, and $700. Needless to say I feel that a mechanic should be able to spend a few moments to research issues with cars, especially if I'm paying them to "diagnose" the issue! I will not be back, and I will be in the market for a mechanic that truly cares about helping the customer, wasting a customers time and money on needless repairs. Could you imagine if I had given them the $700 to "fix" my car. I'd be out the money, and still have a broken relay! I will be passing this info on to the radio station I listen too as well, so maybe they can protect their listeners from any further issues with this place. Good luck, you've been warned! read more

These guys are fantastic!!!! Im definitely going back with any needs and my car wasn't even worked on! Our car broke down and they were the closest mechanics we could get it towed to. I left a message overnight to explain the situation and they returned my call first thing the next morning. They ran a diagnostic and found the problem within an hour. It ended up being the starter motor which we just had replaced in January of this year at another mechanic! Well the other mechanic is going to guarantee their work and fix for no charge so Excel offered to not charge us for the diagnostic and even referred us to another good towing company. They are crooks! I had used them a few times for a new starter and a new radiator and they seemed ok, until my girlfriend took the car in to see where the oil leak was coming from. They put dye in the oil and told her to come back after a few days, I went back with her and they claimed it was the front differential leaking oil. Well it was a rear wheel drive suv and did not have a front differential, the manager told me it was front wheel drive so I took him out and showed him. He did not even apologize. They are either incompetent or rip off girls. Either way I recommend going somewhere else to get work done. read more
