Exploring the various music stores in Jacksonville, I came across Clark's Music Center. Located in the Lakeshore area, Clark's has recently moved to a new location, in the process downsizing their operations. They now focus on guitar and percussion, and have moved away from keyboards, which is sad for me. The store is small, but they have a nice little selection of guitars in the store, along with a repair section that appears to handle more than just guitars. I saw a cornet trumpet being brought in for work, so they seem to know their stuff. read more

I took my G&L electric in to have it restrung and had a great experience. The strings were cheaper than elsewhere and Clark made the guitar look brand new as well as restringing and stretching the strings and retuning. Thanks for the great service! read more

Clark's Music Center is great -- and is owned and operated by the nicest family, I was so happy with the service i received. My daughter has been obsessed with getting a "real" Ukulele -- so a friend recommended we go there. Not only did they have "ukes" -- the had them in every color and kind! They are so sturdy and well-made. My daughter was so excited! She ended up with a pink and white flowered one! And only $35! And the owner's sweet wife, Lisa, even told us that they have lessons..because you learn ukulele the same way you play the guitar! This family owned business definitely deserves 5 stars! They are welcoming and offer not only the sale of brand new instruments but rentals and their a place where you can get lessons with your instrument. I took an old guitar I had in the attic there and they restrung the strings and took care of some other issues for a more than fair price. I bought a guitar book, a tuner, some pics and some other items and even after they restrung my guitar and corrected some issues, the price was still below $60. That's amazing! I met Clark the owner himself and his son was the one working on my guitar. They were both so knowledgeable and kind and I would recommend anyone to go there for their instrument needs. read more

Great family owned shop that has been around for years (with various names, including Discount Music). My husband bought a guitar for my daughter here and not only was the price excellent, they will do maintenance adjustments for free if needed (fret tightening, etc.). Definitely worth the money spent and I do recommend them for anyone needed an honest music shop. read more

Purchased my 12-year-old son's first drum kit there yesterday. What an fabulous experience! Great selection of full kits with cymbals at various price points. No surprises like at some places when you realize suddenly that the cymbals aren't included. We'd done a lot of online research, and Clark's had the best deal. Plus buying local is always best! First time in their store today and I was happy to be there. It's been a long time since I've seen that kind of customer service. Young man behind the counter took a long time explaining how to correctly clean and set up a bass guitar before putting on a set of strings. He took his time talking through the different options in strings but din't talk down the owner of the bass. It was really refreshing. Not once did he feel the need to mention any bands or tours he's part of - he was there to serve - not on an ego trip! (a lesson those GC guys could learn) No one there tried to pressure me into buying anything, but made me feel welcome. They have a crap ton of drum stuff - I didn't see any DJ or big stage sound equipment - but a local shop can only do so much. It's a cool place and I will be back. read more

This was my first visit to Clark's Music Center. I needed professional service on my Mirafone Tuba and was not disappointed. I was greeted at the door and introduced immediately to Bruce, the brass instrument repair tech. Bruce handled the tuba with care and was able to effect the necessary repair. He offered excellent advice for routine care and maintenance, as well candidly admitting when he could not answer one of my questions. I received the help I needed, was treated as a welcome patron, and left feeling that I made the correct choice in Clark's Music Center. Just as I value a trusted auto mechanic, I value a trusted and expert instrument repair tech. I can recommend these folks and look forward to doing business with them in the future. My experience as a customer deserves credit. I bought myself a cheap little classical guitar from an antique store that happened to be missing two tuning pegs. Shame on me but I didn't notice it until after I bought it and of course, all sales were final. So I brought it to Clark's for some help and although I don't know his name, his face was all over the wall so presumably he was the/an owner. He thought out loud the best, most cost effective way to get it taken care of. He started listing what I would need to buy and need to do, assuming this was something I could do on my own (not even close lol) all the while seemingly keeping cost in mind almost more than I was. I ultimately said "Man, I was hoping you could just do it all for me" and at that point he took it in the back and put together some spare parts that he thought would work. He checked his watch and said he's got time to do it right now, PERFECT! I came back 35 mins later and he had fixed what I needed, plus one extra tuning peg and restrung and tuned it for me. The big shock came at the register. We had discussed what it all might cost and I fully anticipated it costing $50-60, so one could imagine the delight in finding he only charged me $35. Now I know my guitar was a beat up cheap little guy and as far as musicians go I'm certainly not renowned, but I know a "hook up" when I see one and it doesn't go unnoticed or unappreciated.
