For 15+ years, I have been a regular, bi-monthly client of ClarySage College. Even with post-COVID stressful times, they were my go-to place for facials. My appointment this week will be my last. They have continued to raise their prices until now they are priced the same as a professional salon. They also knew exactly how many gift cards I had purchased, how many I had used and how many I had left, yet failed to remind me that they expire 8/1/2023 until after. That lack of customer service added to their raising prices for services offered by students in training has caused me to reconsider my options for facial services. Extremely disappointed with their front desk staff! With Clary Sage College being a 501(c)(3) non-profit private institute, why would they need to raise the price by 36%? read more

I have been an avid supporter of Clary Sage until this week. It had been a couple years since I had been there. My daughter, for my birthday gave me an "experience" which was a mom/daughter facial and massage. She made the appointment with no constraints on time. We were given 6:30 pm. Before the visit they called and rescheduled. When we arrived for the reschedule they had my daughters appointment but not mine. There was a note that said for us to be in the same room which is tough without an appointment. They said we could both do facials which we did. I was offered derma-planing as an add on then was told they couldn't do it. During our facials a student walked in and spritzed herself with toner. My student just laughed. It was disconcerting to have random people walking in my area with my personal possessions easily picked up. The school was empty compared to years passed. It seems enrollment is down significantly. The facial was completed in about 20 minutes. There was no treatment on my neck or Décolletage. In a decent facial while the products are drying the clinician massages. Now at Clary Sage they check their phones. There is no longer steam available either. It was a totally disappointing experience. The one good part is they comped the facials. read more

Finding someone to cut your hair is always a struggle when you move to a new city. Even more so if you're as indecisive as I am. It took me long enough for my hair to be meet Locks of Love length requirements (I always grow it out and cut it to donate it). I was at the point where I just wanted to get it over with when I came across a Groupon for Clary Sage College. My sister-in-law went to cosmetology school so I understand the whole student under supervision situation at beauty schools. They gotta learn somehow, right? The Groupon deal offered a ridiculously low price. I bought two; one for my mom as well. The College has really nice and clean facilities. The building looks brand new. They have a waiting area as soon as you walk in, in front of the information desk. We checked in and decided to look at the products and things they sell at the store. They also have a café! We didn't have to wait a long time, only a couple of minutes. They thoughtfully sat my mom and I together. This was extremely helpful as she struggles with English so I could easily aid translating what she wanted. My cosmetology student was Jennifer Turrell. She was SO nice, immediately engaging in friendly conversation. I appreciated her talking me through what she was doing. A wash was included in the deal and it was so relaxing. I brought a Ziploc bag with me to put the donating hair in and Jennifer swiftly measured and cut it. I think she was nervous at first but she got the hang of it. She moved on to the haircut them. I brought a picture of what I wanted: layers and bangs. She approved and went on with it. She didn't require much supervision in my eyes but her instructor still made the rounds checking in on her. I don't remember the name of the girl that cut my mom's hair but she did a great job too. She had an incredible challenge since my mom's hair is ridiculously thick. They style your hair at the end. I was completely satisfied with the service and will definitely return. I asked Jennifer for her card; she might have already graduated by now but I shall find her! I took my daughter to get a trim, wash, and her hair braided. When we first arrived a woman that appeared to be instructing another woman began to work on my daughter's hair. My daughter is biracial and has very thick coarse hair. I was assured she was in good hands. While sitting out in the lobby I heard a screaming and crying coming from inside the salon. I went in and both women were raking at my daughter's dry tangly hair with hair dryer combs without having washed or even conditioning it! My daughter never cried like that while getting her hair done! I asked if they could give her a moment to breathe. The "instructor" rudely asked her "Do you need a moment to breathe?" While rolling her eyes. When I asked if they would just please show a little compassion to my nine year old daughter, the "instructor" asked me if we wanted to discontinue the service!! My daughter overheard the "instructor" tell the other woman that you have to "pretend to care about your clients" this is when I was already out in the lobby. I sat out there a little while longer in disbelief before I went in and asked my daughter if she wanted to leave. I am so upset and still in shock about the entire situation! I would not recommend going there no matter how cheap the service is because you definitely get what you pay for! I feel so bad for my daughter having had this experience and will never be back!!! I've had a lot of massages here and some of them are awesome and some of them were terrible. More often than not they are just kind of so-so. The quality seems to have gone down in the past couple of years. The Price is Right at only $45 for an hour and they have Groupons that I've used as well. I also like the prices on the cut and color side - $30 for color - i used to have super long hair and the color price was never more than $30! This review brings me so much sadness. I had such high hopes. If I could give zero stars I would. Where do I begin since the start there have been so many lies, and cover-ups it's worse than a military recruiter. If you have other options for seeking cosmetology education elsewhere please do so immediately. There are so many things wrong with the school. Almost all of the instructors give you wrong information, but instead of admitting that and seeking out the actual information they just continue to give you the incorrect information. When you try to have your issues solved through the fake open door policy, there is no confidentiality and you will receive backlash and retaliation. As being a part of a group of students who chose to stand up and try to resolve issues I have experienced retaliation myself with others. This will probably continue and there probably will be some "reason" I get expelled when I am ready. If I don't stand up for those behind me or myself, then I will take anything someone does. At this moment we have in the cosmo program about one instructor who truly cares, and knows what she's doing. As far as the program, we were without instructors for so long, and are still short on instructors as well as substitutes because no one wants to work in that type of environment. At one point a group of students were without an instructor for almost their entire phase 2 portion of school that's 8 weeks long. Our online platform they barely know how to fix, you lose access to this at graduation, and at one point we had no working textbook as ours was digital and temporary. The text was included in our tuition, but at one point we would have nothing to refer back to after graduation to prepare for state board exams. After many meetings with a group of students we were awarded textbooks finally, but they made sure to let us know that $14,000 was spent to get us those textbooks. I was appreciative, but not impressed that the amount that was bestowed on us is about half of one person's tuition for the program. After still continuing to have issues we were then brushed off as nothing because the big issue was over we had books. The continued retaliation continued and still continues and nothing is being done. When you inquire about grades or the grading rubric calculations you are ignored let me show you a piece of the grading system. For instance, participation and attendance are your biggest portion for your grade, but you get counted off for how many times you leave the class. It doesn't matter what you're doing, you get counted off for checking your cell phone, and even for stepping out to answer important calls even though they say that's okay to do. We are treated and belittled like highschool children, and not as adults. When you ask how all this is calculated as in how many points per minute on the phone, or how many points for walking out of class will be taken off they can't answer. This is a biased grading scale if they like you they don't grade you as harsh. Instruction is never clear and when you question you are told one lie after another, and if you try to challenge the lie or the course material you are then lied to again because that instructor has lied and they stick together 100%.. Even if you have witnesses that can corroborate your story that doesn't matter instructors' lies will be held up and believed. I have been told if I stay under the radar I will be fine and can make the president's honor roll, and others get it because that's what they do even though it's not earned. You will be graded differently because you speak up, and challenge the instructor on an issue you may have. Others have been told "fake til you make it" by those in charge regarding questions about courses. Elective classes aren't even taken by students, which I might add is a huge selling point by the admissions reps, because faculty do not care about your education or your success in this Cosmetology profession. I understand that in some professions things can be difficult, but during the education process you shouldn't have to experience these things. Enrollment for the program is down because the program has such a bad reputation people do not want to attend. Now you might ask who am I to make this review. I am a current student who has been an honor roll student almost every month since I began in August, I am active in the volunteer ambassador program, and love to help out whenever I can. I am lost at how an institution can allow all these things to go on and not do much to fix it, but just brush you off. We have explained how because many of us spoke up and have been being retaliated against and nothing has been done. I am just a concerned student who wanted a good education as promised, and I have yet to receive it. I came recently with a friend for the spa pedicure. The pedicure was okay; I feel like I've gotten a more thorough cuticle cleaning at other places. I think the pedicure prices have gone up since I've last been. Now it's $29.95, which I thought was ridiculous since you can go to a "professional" for those same prices. However, at this place, they let you KEEP the nail polish you choose..and it's OPI brand!! At the last minute, we decided to add manicures, which they were really nice to accommodate for. The manicure was $14.95 and you got to keep the nail polish (or it was $5 off the total price if you did the manicure and pedicure and used the same nail polish). Gel manicures here were also $14.95, but you don't get to keep the nail polish. The students were really nice and professional. You could tell they were trying. In case you were worried about the quality of your student's work, the teacher has to sign off on the work of the students when they're done. read more

I went to get my haircut and I told the guy I don't care what all you do my goal is to get all my dead split ends off so if you have to cut 4 or 5 inches so be it. He proceeds to not even cut off an inch leaving my hair still dead and he makes me stand while he cuts my hair as to make sure it all even? I'm pregnant and thought I was about to pass out on this man's floor from standing throughout my cut. Then the receptionist makes me feel bad for not wanting to leave a tip when I didn't even want to pay for the cut in the first place since nothing was cut off my hair. So I leave a three dollar tip... I guess I got a nice 15 dollar shampoo now and will still have to pay to get my hair cut elsewhere read more

The first week they make you take a class for budgeting and life skills. This might be good for just out of high school students but for mature adults it's pointless. Then once you get in class you are thrown in at what ever point they are teaching that week. One student was told to use a surgical steel blade to durma-plane someone's face. I felt like cattle myself and teacher was rude. They are just churning out students to get them signed up. They don't care about students or anything other than getting money out of you. This is a horrible school and clearly a for high profit to get desperate people trying to get out of poverty. first of all, i did the esthetician program. please do not waste your time and money here. the tuition here is the highest in oklahoma. i chose it because i thought i'd get better education and a better kit, absolutely not. we had more hands on than book work. my first day i did a facial. second day i did waxing. we jumped straight into these services and did not know what we were doing at all. i graduated as of 4 months ago, with that being said i have little education. i cannot pass my exams for the life of me. i have contacted the school and my previous teachers asking for help/recommendations and they refuse to answer. this school is just a giant scam. they do not care about you or your education sis. they look at you as money rolling in not your well-being. read more

Someone gave me a gift certificate for a pedicure here. The student who did my pedicure skimped on or skipped several steps completely. She didn't massage my feet at all, applied lotion only on my calves (not on my feet!), and spent about two seconds using the callus remover on my heels (did not use on the balls of feet or outside edge of big toes). Then, the polish job was pretty sloppy. She left a good deal of polish on my cuticles. I could have done better myself at home. To top it all off, the pedicure took forever. Even thought she didn't do much, she was constantly stopping to talk to the other students in the room. The student also told me she had recently accidentally sprayed alcohol instead of water all over a child's head before a haircut. I get that mistakes happen, but you probably shouldn't be telling your clients about them. Not exactly confidence inspiring. I'll cut them a bit of slack because they are just students and not professionals... yet. (This is why I avoid beauty schools in general.) At least it was free, I guess. I am currently a student here at Clary and have also have had many services performed. I'm in esthetics, and out services are wonderful. Very relaxing and the facials make you feel like a new person. However, if you are going for hair - be prepared to spend some time. Keep in mind these are students and they don't have the speed that people do in the professional world. Always voice if you aren't happy, or want something done different. You have to be cautious anytime you come to a beauty school - buy Clary is definitely the best! read more

I have done mani/pedis, massages and facials there. I enjoy the facials the most. The 1 hour massages are usually shorted by 10 or more minutes. The facilas have been good. The first facial was INCREDIBLE (about 1.5 years ago). Since then, they have not been ss good, but still pretty good especially for the price and thru Groipon is a great bargain. I wish they were a little more consistent on their exact procedure steps. For example, some massage arms, hands, neck, some don't. I asked to see s written procedure, but they said they don't have such a thing! What? Anyway, the steam machine frequently has problems and doesn't work, which is a huge disappointment. I come here to get my haircut. It's worth it! The students strive to do well. They want to be perfect and it shows when they are constantly asking their instructor about their progress as they cut. I have had my haircut by individuals that have graduated and gone on to open their own shops. I used to really love coming here, but I'm not sure what happened to this place but the service isn't the same anymore. I had a Groupon for a massage, which was supposed to last an hour. It barely lasted 45 minutes. So at that point my impression already wasn't too great. I then proceed to the counter to check out, show them my Groupon, and the front lady then asks me if I want to leave a tip. I've never been asked that there, but I have ALWAYS left a tip willingly. I felt as if I had no choice but to leave a tip, although I was not happy with my service, so I awkwardly left a few dollars as if I absolutely had to. I'd never been to sage until my friend told me about it , so the day before my wedding we go to do our nails there . The girls,were nice the atmosphere was pleasent but man it took like 3 hours to get my nails done ; ( the young girl doing my nails was very nervous , and in the end I walked out of there coming home and redoing my nails I've never been back since . I would give them zero stars if I could! My daughter has very long hair and I sent her there for balayage. She came home with the entire middle section of her hair all the way around her head broken off to her ears! They apparently left the bleach on way too long and she has chemical breakage everywhere and her entire head of hair is fried! I asked her if an instructor looked at it and she said they did and said it was fine. She's now having to have her hair, which was to the middle of her back, cut all the way past her shoulders to get rid of the damage and blend in all the short pieces that broke. She said her hair was falling out in chunks when they were brushing it out and they told her that was normal! She's 16 years old, so she didn't feel comfortable complaining or saying anything. Had I been there, I would not have paid for that service! $54 for them to completely ruin her hair! I understand that they are students and things happen, but this was horrible and they acted like nothing was wrong! They knew what they did! And shame on the instructor that let her pay and walk out the door like that! Never again will any of my family step foot in that place! I feel so bad for my daughter who has to start her sophomore year with her hair a total wreak! read more

Let me preface this by saying that this review is only for my most recent experience here. I have used Clary Sage before for a haircut, and it was one of the best haircuts I ever got. That being said, my experience this time wasn't so great. When I called to make my appointment, I let the person know I wanted to do it around my lunch break time. She told me to come in at 11:00 and it would probably take between 1- 1 1/2 hours. It was about 10 after 11 when they came to get me. The person doing my hair was very friendly. I showed her two pictures of what I was wanting and explained to her exactly what I was looking for. Her instructor came over and heard my description as well. It took almost 2 1/2 hours for the whole process and the end result was not at all what I wanted. At that point I was just ready to get out of there and I was worried it would end up being worse, so I left even though I was unhappy. My haircut (which was supposed to be longer in the front, shorter in the back with stacked layers, instead is basically a long layer and a short layer all around). It doesn't look anything like I had hoped it would. And now I'm going to have to go pay someone to do some damage control. I'm not saying you shouldn't use Clary Sage, but I'm saying if you do, be prepared to strongly voice your opinion. I wish I would have. read more

Attending this school was the worst decision I ever made... and will be your's too! The staff is super rude, does not want you to succeed, and super unorganized! My first week of school was advanced facials. Before I learned the basics or anything about skin I was putting a surgical scalpel to someone's face (derma-planing) like wow how dangerous.. I could have really hurt someone! We also had an instructor up and leave in the middle of class with no warning. Anything discussed with this instructor was not honored. I am a straight A student and missed class for a medical emergency and was told I could make it up so that I could keep my 4.0 g.p.a.. I went to my new instructor (Crystal), the department head (Pamela), and also the school director (Raye M.). Not one of these people helped me. This school does not have you best interest at heart! The facility might look nice ( thats what got me too) but once you start classes I promise you will regret it! Listen to me and find some where else to go. If you are interested in cosmology look into Paul Mitchell. Beautiful facility, around the same price in tuition, I also have a friend who attends classes there and absolutely loves it. Estheticians, Paul Mitchell will be adding this department very soon so it would be best for you to wait until they open up or go some where else ..this is not the school for anyone! I was looking for a place to get a massage, but always hestiate because you hear of massage parlors being busted all the time for "things". Anyways, I have been looking at different places for several months, but just couldn't bring myself to actually go and get a massage. A co worker suggested the school, and told me how professional and discreet they were when she received her massage. I decided to check them out. Usually females would perform my massages, however, they only had a male available at the date and time I requested. I was a bit on the fence of having a male give me a massage, but I'm glad I did. It was the best massage I have had in a long time, and I couldn't really tell that it was performed by a student. I have made SEVERAL appointments with this individual, but sad to hear he will be graduating soon. I have requested that he give me his contact information when he decides to venture out on his own. Don't let a sterotype fool you because of a prejudice you may have. This will be the only time I would ever let another male touch me in such a personal way, but the professionalism and the discreteness the students show makes the experience worthwhile. I was assigned to a stylist who was to graduate the following month. She used a method to cut my hair (combing it to one side like a side mohawk) that I've never seen any other stylist use. With good reason, it turns out, as it left the hair on one side of my head longer than the other. I pointed this out, and she made some corrections, but it still wasn't right. The instructor realized it, but said she thought it was okay. Since my hair was styled, I didn't realize until the next day that my hair was unevenly cut.
