I would tend to agree with Brigid to some degree as Dr. Nowysz seems to always find things you need to get done and insists upon what I would describe as "add ons" that you don't really need. I also got a reminder e-mail from the clinic that I should go in for more dental work to take advantage of the full insurance allocation for the fiscal year - or something to that effect. I don't approach dental care with such a financial gain perspective nor of going after work you don't really need simply to maximize your benefits out. Rather, I would prefer to get the work done that I need without doing excessive work or adding on a host of additional services that aren't actually essential or really needed. Having said that, Dr. Nowysz and her team are always extremely nice and friendly. She was great with my kids and I had a positive dental exam the one time I did see her. She also does charitable work for free in Latin America routinely and I have a huge amount of respect for that and her voluntary spirit. So I would recommend her, but be firm in saying "no" if you get the impression she is proposing additional things you don't actually need or perhaps get the feeling she is exaggerating an issue that might not be as intensive as she suggested (she had a high priority treatment my daughter needed which I declined as we were traveling and two years later my daughter's teeth are just fine, no issues so obviously the treatment wasn't that critical or urgent). read more

Dr. Nowysz and her hygienist Sarah were excellent. The cleaning was fast and pain free, and all of the members of her team were friendly and helpful. This was my first appointment with Classic Smiles, and Dr. Nowysz took plenty of time to make sure all of my questions and concerns were addressed. I would give this place zero stars if possible. Four of the teeth that Dr. Stephanie Nowysz filled had to be either re-done by another dentist or had to be drilled down and crowned. It was nothing short of a dental nightmare. Because of Dr. Nowysz, I developed TMJ. Her MO is to tell you that you have fillings that need to be replaced. And, she's going to find cavities that you didn't know you had. If its a great dentist you want, go to the Family Dental Center in Coralville. Top notch people there. Not too many people write dentist reviews on yelp apparently, but here is mine. After trying two other dentists in town, my wife and I have ended up staying with Dr. Nowysz and we love it there. We have both gone for regular cleanings and I have had a filling done as well. As someone who cringes thinking about any dental work, my experiences here have been as good as the dentist can be. Completely painless? No. Minimal pain and concern for my comfort at every juncture? Yes. Besides all the actual dentistry work, the staff is all very friendly and helpful - never bothered by our extra questions. The building is unique because it is a renovated home I think. Being able to look out the window and hear birds chirping almost makes you forget you are getting your teeth cleaned. I have referred all my friends to Classic Smiles and have only heard good things back from them. Edit: Reading Brigid's (the only other reviewer) other reviews of dental businesses, she also poorly rated a dentist at Tufts University who disagreed with her accusation that Dr. Nowysz messed up her fillings, but she "just instinctively knew" it was her fault. read more

I never minded going to the dentist. After being a patient here, I am terrified. The dentist and hygenist are rude and unprofessional. The only good thing about the office is the receptionist, she is wonderful. I had never had a cavity in my life, and suddenly had 16 when I went and saw her for the first time. I have numerous friends that have horror stories as well. She filled all my cavities, which stil hurt over a year and a half later. When I went to a new dentist, he had to re-do four of the fillings she had placed because they were incorrect or hadn't been filled completely. One of which may now require a root canal. The dentist would not refer me to get my wisdom teeth out because "I had to have my cleaning and cavities done through insurance first." Now my wisdom teeth are so far through the surface that they are causing problems on my other teeth and pain. I would not recommend this dentist to anyone. read more

My four year old daughter had a wonderful experience. This means a lot since my daughter was extremely nervous and tearful before our visit. From the moment we walked through the door Dr. Stephanie made her feel welcome and at ease. Dr. Stephanie Patiently explained and demonstrated each procedure to my daughter in a way that was easy for her to understand and kept her engaged in the process. Ive had a fear of going to the dentist for as long as I can remember. I have tried other dentists but my fear was so strong I went to a pediatric dentist until 18 years of age. After I moved out and got my own place it took years for me to go back to the dentist. I decided to make a routine cleaning appointment with classic smiles and they are wonderful! I have been a client of Classic Smiles for eight years and have been impressed with the service. The staff is always pleasant and accomodating -- have an emergency? They will get you in either the same day of business hours or the dentist will call you back after hours to assess the situation. The denist and staff will walk you through each procedure and show pictures (via mirror or on the computer screens), which I appreciate beng in the know. read more

Horrible experience! I don't have sensitive teeth or issues with pain, but I was in terrible pain when I was drilled on. Dr Nowysz didn't numb me enough and when I tried to notify her of this, she ignored me the whole way through, despite my many attempts to get her attention. She was incredibly rude the entire time and it affected her performance. I have talked to other people with similar experiences there. I would never recommend that anyone go there under any circumstances. After my procedure, she tossed a tube of "classic smiles" label lip balm at me and said, "here, you need this." read more

I agree with the previous poster. If Classic Smile could receive ZERO stars, it would. As a matter of fact, this was the first time in my life where "suing" came to my mind and I actually researched how to I was so incredibly upset. I would pay an endless amount of money to undo the damage they did to my teeth. Expect to have more "cavities" than you've ever had in your life combined when visiting this "Dentist". Then, expect the "Dentist" to drill far to much of your tooth out to set you up for serious future problems. Next, expect the "Dentist" to sell you on amalgam (MERCURY) fillings because they are fast and easy. After that, expect to be in and out of the Dentist office faster than you have ever been in your life while getting more "cavities" filled than you have ever in your life. I went to my hometown dentist to have a second opinion for the other side (that I cancelled my appointment for and which Classic Smiles told me I had THREE ON THAT SIDE) and found that there were no cavities on that side! My hometown dentist, who is about to retire, had tears in his eyes when he told me, "WHOA! Those babies are deep!" Concerned about the work Classic Smiles performed. DO NOT GO TO THIS DENTIST AND DO NOT BUY THE "5" STAR REVIEWS. Ask yourself, why are there fake sounding 5 star reviews but also multiple 1 star reviews?!?! THINK!!! read more
