If you're trying to get a big piece, you need to find an artist who knows what they're doing. The quality of their work definitely shows in their tattoos. Rebecca is a great artist and works fast! I was so surprised at how fast she finished my tattoo. We were able to get it done all in one session (3 hours, 45min), and she was about to be due in 2 months. I got my tattoo in January of 2016. It was a water color and I wanted to see how it held out before I wrote a review. The coloring is still as bright and vibrant as the day I got it. The tattoo artist Sox was great, he worked with me on what I wanted and did a great job. It is my favorite tattoo to date. I am very pale so colors look good on me but I also have a lot of freckles and those are hard to cover up with black in sometimes but he did a great job and it's not patchy at all. read more

I've been to Classic a few times, twice for tattoos and twice for piercings. I know it's a good tattoo/piercing parlor, I've seen really good work from there and have gotten some good work there too. However, the atmosphere makes it hard for me to go back. I've experienced an ego there so thick I cut slice it with a knife. This artist didn't like me from the first time I came in, and I had the displeasure of her tattooing me the last time I went in for a walk-in. She openly didn't like the design, but said she would do it anyway. I was a little picky about the placement, and she made me feel as though I was being too demanding. As she tattooed me, she rushed the job and tried to use a shader so she wouldn't have to stipple. Not only that, she barely followed the outline left by the stencil. Instead of tapering, it ended up being an oval shape. I left the tattoo parlor with a tattoo oozing plasma all down my arm, and swollen as hell. From this experience, I don't recommend getting tattoos from Kelley. I suppose she took offense from my lack of visible tattoos. HOWEVER, I had a pleasant experience with Brandon when he tattooed me (again, a walk in). He was friendly and helped me make final decisions/touches on the design I had. Although I haven't been tattooed by Mark, I have seen his portfolio (impressive!) and have had a friend tattooed by him. His work is very good and from my experiences with him in the shop, he is a nice guy. I have only had piercings done by Dave, and each time has been pleasant. He really knows what he is doing and cares about his work Overall, this place rocks and produces good work. It's worth noting that I haven't actually been inside Classic yet because it's been impossible to get anyone on the phone the few times that I've called and when I finally did, I headed down there after hanging up only to find a sign posted to the door saying they closed early to go trick-or-treating. The sun hadn't even gone down yet. I live 45 minutes away so it's not really convenient for me to stop by often. So I headed over to Mystic Marks to get a birthday present for my sister and I was grateful to them for actually being open. I wanted to give Classic some money but I've tried and failed. Talk about wonderful. I have been in alot of tattoo parlors and none compare to Classic Tattoo. The artest that work here are true artists. They are all wonderful. I use Morgan. She has done my 1/2 sleeve and my back which is in progress. I will never go to another tattoo parlor for a tattoo. I have met people from 30 miles away that use Classic Tattoo. I could tell from the moment I walked in that it wouldn't be a good experience. I had used Mystic Marks for my previous tattoos and piercings and was pleased with them, but had friends who praised classic so highly that I thought I would try them out for a very simple tattoo. What I was met with was disinterest in my design, lack of care in the drawing, and annoyance when I asked for parts of it to be tweaked so I could have it just how I wanted it. When it came time for the tattoo, my arm was shaved so roughly that it cut my skin, and then immediately alcohol was poured all over it, which both burned and made my skin puff up- not an ideal canvas for a tattoo. The end result looks bad. The lines are not straight at all, he went outside of the lines he drew, and worst of all is that when he pulled away to wipe the ink off, he trailed the gun on my skin so there are some random small lines leading away from my tattoo. It's a mess, and it's still very painful. I'll be going back to see what they can do to fix it as well as taking my business and all of my friends to Mystic Marks for all future tattoos. read more

I was a tattoo novice when I went in back in February with one of my friends. We were both a little nervous and wanted very simple designs. We met with Brandon and he was very helpful and respected the fact that we wanted small line-art tattoos. My tattoo is a small sun on my ankle. I had a few things I wanted it based off. For years, I had been planning to get my first tattoo on my 30th birthday. Rebecca at Classic Tattoo came highly recommended by a friend of mine with multiple colorful and feminine tattoos. About 6 weeks prior, my husband and I stopped by the shop to visit. I shared my vision of a colorful owl tattoo modeled after a figurine left to me by grandmother who died when I was 12. I had a very particularly idea of how it would look- not too cartoon-y, but also not severe or angry. I sent her a picture of the figurine and what she emailed back was perfection. She NAILED it. Her botanical work on others that I know was so recognizable, beautiful, and the shading/colors were perfection. Exactly what I was looking for. All of their work is so beautiful - the colors are vibrant, the lines are clean, and it's really quality work. My review is for Dave, because he was my piercer a few years back at Diablo Rojo in Austin, and he was so great, I'm surprised I didn't write a review. So I was 18 and my first piercing besides my ears was an anti-brow, and he did an amazing job. Surprisingly, it didn't reject and I came back a few weeks later to change the jewelry. Every interaction with him was really pleasant. He's friendly, clean, and efficient. He also gave my sister the coolest industrial I've ever seen. Her ears are stupid small, so industrials don't really work for her, so he gave her a version of the piercing that goes in and out of her ear in a really weird, but really badass way. We live in College Station and will ONLY come here for tattoo work! This place is simply the best! We always go to Morgan. Her artistic talent is beyond amazing, and she is seriously one of the best human beings as well. I am also impressed by their quality of work, and their expertise. If something is not a good idea (too much text, placement that stretched across different skin textures, etc.), they will let you know. Morgan has done two of my tattoos, and I am already ready to schedule my third. I'm not sure how to give all the right superlatives without sounding cheesey. **BE AWARE** This shop allows traveling gypsy artist or "guest" artist to tattoo out of their shop. These artist lack respect for the shop and their clients. The integrity of a tattoo shop is a reflection of the artist who tattoo there. I had an appointment scheduled with Jon Montalvo for about a month. I made it very aware, from the beginning, that I would be traveling to San Marcos from out of town. (3 hour drive) a couple of hours before our appointment, while I'm on the road, about 3/4 of the way there, Jon cancels on me. He tells me "something personal came up and he will not be able to make it into work today". I tell him that I'm already about to be in San Marcos, and that I'll come in anyways to see if anyone else has availability...I don't know.. (I'm in limbo at this point) Once I tell him that I'm already about to be there and that I'll see if anyone else can fit me in today, he then tells me "Ah man... that sucks... sorry, but my assistant made a scheduling error and I have to cancel one appointment today"... which he decided to cancel on the person who is traveling from 3 hours away. So at this point, I've already been lied to. I walk in the shop and Jon's in the back already tattooing someone. I later figure out via social media that he enjoys tattooing females... I guess that was his personal matter for needing to cancel on me. The front desk guy/artist Sox goes back to ask him if he can squeeze me in... squeeze me in... I've had an appointment scheduled for a month, with a deposit, and already traveled 3 hours... Jon then tells Sox to tell me that there's no "wiggle room" in his schedule... Jon couldn't even come up to the front to tell me this in person. I wanted him to look at me and tell me that I traveled this far for nothing, but he had Sox do his dirty work for him... I find this to be very timid, and cowardly of Jon. Now at this point, I don't even want to get tattooed by someone with no backbone. I don't know if there's a culture barrier, but where I'm from, that's not how you conduct business. If this situation was vice versa, I would have been considered a last minute cancellation/no-show, and would not received my deposit back. Followed by a preach of: "my time is money" "this is my livelihood" "I'm loosing out on other work" etc. etc. but if you're the client, it's just like ripping off a band-aid. Jon straight up lied to me, and did nothing to even try to make things right... but why would he? He's off to his next city in a few days; but Classic Tattoo will forever leave a nasty taste in my mouth. Unfortunately, these instagram tattoo artist nowadays like to play the whole supply and demand card way to often. So you're just another face and another dollar to them. These traveling tattoo artist like to over book their schedules on purpose to ensure they make enough money to pay for their trip, and traveling expenses. Then they like to trim the fat and cancel on clients once the time gets closer. Bottom line: Classic Tattoo is a street shop that specializes in over priced, palm-sized tattoos for college kids who just received their financial aid checks. I hear the shop owner is a wonderful lady, and I don't doubt that; but the shop is represented by the artist who tattoo there. The shop has zero oversight of the way each artist treats their clients, but it's the shops reputation that suffers from this. read more

Very professional and clean shop, and the staff are all very welcoming and soo nice! I got my rook pierced by Dave, and my lobes pierced by Joe. Both piercers are so nice and gentle, and were very helpful with aftercare instructions. I recently visited back to get my nose pierced, but learned that they no longer do piercings anymore. :( sad because i wouldn't trust any other shop then classic for body piercings. I absolutely love my tattoo I received. it's a very large side piece done by one of the female artists there and it is beautiful. there is no shortage of talent in classic, however, the artists aren't the most professional or the nicest. if you're looking for a well done tattoo, they have plenty of tattooers with different styles! (some overcharge for what you get, but mine was very reasonably priced. I think it depends on who you go to) it is not a shop to do a walk in at, especially if you're unsure of what you want or you're picky. they're not super tolerant of that, that's the only reason for 4 stars. otherwise, I recommend you check out their instagram for the artists and their specific styles. read more

Today I went in for my septum & nostril piercing. Was greeted immediately with friendly faces and quickly taken care of. Dave was my piercer and he is very nice, skilled and professional. He made the process fun and as painless as piercing gets. He's very knowledgeable and provides you with all the information you need to care for your piercing(s) he also takes pride in his work and gives you his information to call if something comes up, also he wants to follow up in two weeks. I went to Classic Tattoo because I have some friends who have had tattoos done there. I knew what I wanted, it had to do with honoring my grandparents and realizing this is who I am and where my roots are. I saw Rebecca Basma's work in her book and she had a picture of a Sugar Skull, which is what I wanted. I found a shirt that had the basic idea of the skull and gave it to Rebecca. The special things I wanted on it were my grandparents last names (Lucero & Perez ) on a ribbon. She came up with a design, added roses and I asked for a small horse shoe (good luck) on it. I felt very comfortable with her from the start and she was really focused on the piece. It came out amazing, it was exactly what I wanted. My artist was Brandon and after 6 months, my design looks healthy and clean and couldn't make me any more happy! I waited several decades before making my decision- so needless to say, I did my homework when it came to the right person for the job :) There are many choices out there, you want to make this place top on the list of where to check out for your tattoo. It's the best news ever that they no longer do piercings. Considering that my tragus that I got done 10 months ago is still completely fucked. It's crooked and hasn't healed at all and now I can't even get the jewelry out! Not to mention that twice before this I had walked into this place planning to get tattoos and walked right out after being completely ignored by their owner who was casually eating at the front desk and ignored me and the other three people that walked in after me. Incredible really. The most arrogant assholes at this place. Let's not forget when I went to get help with my tragus and the other piercer guy SLAPPED my hand while I was trying to explain to him what was wrong and told me not to touch it. I'm from San Antonio so I drove up to meet my cousin for dinner & happened to pass by the shop & went in just to see the work & set up an appointment to get a hideous tattoo fixed/covered up. I've had both a tattoo and a piercing done here, and both were amazing experiences. I had a tattoo done by sox and he made me feel very comfortable. He took his time drawing it out and placing it. It was over all a wonderful first tattoo experience. I recently has a piercing done by Dave Mesa he's super attractive and did an amazing job correcting my previously pierced medusa. He took his time with placement and was super clean. I think he changed his gloves 3 or 4 times. This is now the only place I'll err get pierced and more than likely the only place I'll ever get tattooed. read more
