Buyer Beware We were…read moretold the construction portion of this project would be 4-6 weeks. It was 17 weeks from the start of the first contractor working until the last contractor finished. This was our schedule: December 27 - We picked fixtures, cabinets, countertops. Magdi said he was going to use these costs in our contact. January 5 - We signed the contract and paid the 1st installment. Magdi said he would buy everything right away. Magdi cashed our check that same day. February 28 - We believe Magdi purchased the fixtures. This is based on the information he brought to our final meeting. March 31 - The cabinetmaker showed up to measure the space for the cabinets Mid May - A contractor showed up at our door with no notification to demo the bathroom. We turned him away because we were not prepared for demo. June 6 - Work began and all materials were delivered to our house this week. June 6 through October 6 contractors sporadically showed up. We were notified for some, others were a surprise when they knocked on our door, and others were no shows. October 12 Magdi came to collect final payment. He never looked at the final project! When presenting the final payment, Magdi included a number of cost increases on materials we selected on December 27. He presented a cost sheet dated February 28. At times Magdi appeared confused. He was calling my partner and was asked to call me. After my partner would direct Magdi to call me, he said he would, but never did. We would go weeks without a contractor coming to our house. I would call Magdi to find out what the schedule was and often he did not know.
