We are two couples with winery experience across the US and Europe. We were told that all Hometown taxi drivers were experienced and knowledgeable of the wineries on the North Fork. We were also told that we would be transported in a minivan. One of us researched the many wineries and chose five to cover our four-hour window. Our driver was friendly and polite. He did know the area and was familiar with the wineries but could not provide commentary that was helpful or insightful. He relied on us to use GPS for the best directions. It was clear that wine touring transportation was not his forte. Our minivan was very old, very dirty and very uncomfortable; well suited to transporting children rather than adults having to get in and out of the vehicle several times over a short period of time. We were happy to pay $80/hour for the convenience and we tipped our driver generously. However our expectations of comfortable, clean transportation and driver knowledge were not met. We do not recommend booking Hometown Taxi for winery tours on the North Fork of Long Island. The area and the wineries are beautiful; choose another for transportation.
