Although I am not a patient of Dr. Cooke's--at least not yet--I am greatly impressed by her team! In the last two weeks, Carolina, one of her assistants, spoke with me three times, spending an extraordinary two hours in all, explaining Dr. Cooke's practice, answering every question, and even brainstorming with me about a particular issue! I cannot imagine a doctor's office--even a functional medicine one-- providing more helpful, detailed support. Unfortunately, despite fees that I know are fair for a NYC physician of Dr. Cooke's caliber, I'm unsure if I could afford to see Dr. Cooke. Grateful every day to have met Dr. Cooke. She is a brilliant doctor and a beautiful person. I spent some time in her office learning from her during my medical studies and public health studies. She is thorough, knowledgeable and genuine. Dr. Cooke thinks out of the box. She draws from extensive training from different schools of thought, compromising her vast medical toolbox. Her genuine touch is a rare quality in modern medicine; it is usually drained out of most physicians. Dr.Cooke has been my physician for several years. I even got my mom and Dad and my sister to see her. She is very knowledgeable and integrates every modality. I recommend acupuncture and IV vitamins and Ondamed with her (I do it every month and it makes me feel so happy & uplifted, as I get all my micronutrients and my energy gets balanced). I wanted to write a review because I felt like my experience differed from the reviews of others. Let me start off by saying that Dr. Cooke is a lovely woman and when I had my first meeting with her I felt comfortable with her and we spent an hour discussing my issues and what I wanted to improve. With that, basically my issues were related to the stomach and to the skin. She provided me with a whole new regimen, which I followed to the tee. Part of the regimen was completely changing my diet - eliminating gluten, wheat, dairy, soy-for a couple of weeks. She also provided me with natural pills and I had to purchase a powder to take daily to cleanse the liver and gut. I understood and followed this and she said after two weeks to give her a call and let her know if I felt any better and discuss where to go from there. During the two weeks I had an inquiry and the receptionist told me she would ask the doctor and get back to me. I receive no call back after 2 days so I call her back. Seems that the receptionist forgot to ask the doctor, and I let it go because everyone makes mistakes and , so it's fine. After the two weeks, I try to call and it goes to voicemail and the voicemail says that she is away on vacation til the following week but any questions, her assistants/receptionists could help with. So I leave them a voicemail to call me back when they have a chance because I simply need to ask if I should continue the pills/powder even though it's after two weeks. No call back. I call again and leave a voicemail telling them that I really need to speak to them. Finally one of them calls back and says she didn't call back because she wasn't a doctor and couldn't assist...well, ok, but a call back to notify me of that would've been helpful. Also, the doctor should leave someone who can assist while she is gone. I call back the following week as I was told to do and I'm told that that she is busy and will have to call me back. I wait a day and no call back. By now, it's almost the end of my week 3 and I have yet to know where to go from here and I don't feel any different or see any results which she originally said could happen and if so we would try other things that would work. So I call back again and the receptionist assures me that she will call back. She calls me back around 7pm and I advise her that I don't feel different and if I could start eating normally again. She insists on me not continuing gluten which to me makes no sense if I felt no difference when I got off it and staying off gluten is extremely hard as it is in everything. If I felt better I definitely would have understood that sacrificing gluten was necessary but as there was no difference, it just didn't make sense to me but I agreed that I wouldn't have it. She scheduled a follow-up appointment for a couple months later as she wanted me to try this other powder that claimed to have good results. I ended up not taking the powder and just stopping her "treatment" as I learned by going to a regular physician that I could find out what my food sensitivities were (like gluten) simply by doing a blood test. I was upset because I felt like she was really pushing that gluten was so bad and it was gluten that was probably harming me but after having a blood test done, it was confirmed that I do not have a gluten sensitivity and I have started eating gluten again with no setbacks. I do understand that there ARE people who cannot have gluten (persons with Celiac disease) but I do also believe that there are people who claim that they are gluten intolerant and are actually just following this new gluten-free "fad". And that's how I felt that this was treated. The reason that I went to Dr. Cooke originally was because I had read great reviews about her and I don't deny them. I'm sure that she is a great doctor and maybe it just didn't work for me but I thought I would post about my experience and that it might help you more in deciding if this is the right doctor for you. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Cooke for several years. She is the rare physician who not only deeply listens, she sees and treats her patients as unique individuals. She has been supportive and helpful in looking for helpful substances in my struggle with an IBS-like problem caused by a medical treatment I received years ago, (not given by her) which virtually destroyed my digestive system. Dr. Cook is a very nice person. She took great care to make sure she was giving me all the right meds for my trip abroad. She checked drug interactions, gave me information sheets on all my vaccines and tons of tips on vitamins I can take to help ease tummy, GI, and respiratory issues while I was away. Dr. Cooke LITERALLY saved my life after I was diagnosed with Lyme Disease in 2012. First, let me say that she is an extremely kind, caring, and compassionate person - when I met her for the first time, I was at my wits end, and I just fell into her arms and began to bawl. She, in turn, hugged me, comforted me, and told me it was going to be alright. This, before we even began the consultation! Right then and there, I knew that she truly understood the devastating psychological and physical toll that Lyme Disease takes on a person. I had been suffering for three months when I found Dr. Cooke, and had already consulted with nine - yes, nine (9) other doctors who told me that there was nothing wrong with me and it was all in my head. This, after I informed them that I had been bitten up pretty badly by insects while on a nature hike and thereafter experienced many painful, unrelenting symptoms. I was suffering from joint pains that made it difficult to walk and constant chest pains that felt like I was having a heart attack. I also had non-stop itching on the bite sites (which were all over my body) that no medication would soothe. A week before meeting Dr. Cooke I had gone to my primary doctor and told her to test me for West Nile and Lyme because whatever was wrong with me had to be from the bug bites three months prior. Three days later my primary doctor called and told me I had tested positive for Lyme and called in antibiotics. By this time, I could hardly walk and needed to take off from work. I asked my primary to fill out the disability papers from my job and she refused saying Lyme Disease was not that bad. That's when I started doing the research on Lyme Disease and realized that the disease was pretty advanced in my body three months in, and I needed serious help from a Lyme literate doctor. I also needed someone who understood how real my symptoms were, and would take my work disability paperwork seriously as I had a small child to provide for. After our initial consultation, the first thing Dr. Cooke did was have her staff complete my disability paperwork. This allowed me stay home and recover while receiving a modest disability income. In terms of a treatment plan--She had me properly tested by Igenex to identify the strains of Lyme that I had been infected with. She then put me on a regiment of supplements and dietary changes that had an immediate and marked impact on disease progression. I remember her telling me that there was a new herb that was being touted as a "game changer" for the joint pains. She gave me that herb and within two days, my joint pains were gone! She prescribed another supplement for the chest pains--that one took a little longer, but within a couple of weeks, the chest pains subsided, and were gone completely in about month. I still get the chest pains from time to time and always go back that that supplement that Dr. Cooke prescribed me in 2012. She also gave me homeopathic rubs for the itching that helped a great deal. That took a while to completely go away, but it is gone for good. I love that fact that Dr. Cooke practices Integrative Medicine. So, while she is a traditional Board Certified M.D, she is also well versed and trained in Alternative Medicine - she has her Physician Certification in Acupuncture. I was given all traditional diagnostic tests by Dr. Cooke before we decided to go the holistic route in my treatment plan. Her office is well equipped with the latest in diagnostic tools--her staff was able to draw my blood, do an EKG and other tests right there in the office. She is very hands on and will email you a detailed treatment plan as soon as you leave her office. I want to also mention how wonderful her office staff, Wanda and Maria are. They are kind and funny and super accommodating when it comes to stuff like insurance paperwork, etc. they really know how to make you feel at ease and welcomed in the office. So, how am I doing today? I am free of Lyme Disease and Dr. Cooke's knowledge of this disease played a big role in getting me to this place. I am still a patient of Dr. Cooke and saw just this past February for a consultation on another issue. I do believe she saved my life in 2012 when no other doctor took my symptoms seriously. I now know that my chest pains were from the Lyme bacteria was attacking my heart. If Dr. Cooke had not had the knowledge she had, I could have died. I will be forever grateful to sweet, kind, knowledgeable woman. You would be hard pressed to find a better physician anywhere. read more

Dr. Cooke is an AMAZING Dr. and Woman. After struggling for years with Crohns Disease and just about to go on Remicade for the rest of my life, someone recommended I see her. With nothing to lose, I did. She offers both medical and alternative medicine. Using both, within 3 months ( and without any threat of compromising my immune system) my symptoms subsided and I have been in complete remission for 1 1/2 years. I see her now about 4-5 times a year for a "tune up" and what I call a wellness visit. Her expertise and her approach combining the body/mind is unique to find in a Medical Doctor ( in my opinion) . I have only good things to say about Dr. Cooke. Her approach to medicine and healing is truly integrative and she really takes the whole person into consideration. I came to see her initially to try to make some changes to how I manage my Crohn's disease. With Dr. Cooke's help and after two very thorough assessment visits and blood work she created a plan to support my transition off of my current medication (which I was unhappy with) and a plan to support my health once coming off the medication. Dr Cooke has been treating me for several years. I have total confidence in her. Her rigorous training in internal medicine was evident in the care she took to understand my condition and its origins. I first saw her for hypertension, after being dissatisfied with a doctor who after a two-minute interview wanted to put me on medication for the rest of my life. Dr. Cooke enabled me to avoid such drastic measures through as diet, weight loss, deep breathing and biofeedback. She is interested in the whole body and is totally committed to the patient. Working with Dr. Cooke does require a certain degree of commitment. An in-depth patient interview takes at least an hour. Hers is not the kind of practice where patients wait in a crowded office, then shiver for another 20 minutes in an examination room before spending five minutes with the doctor. Dr. Cooke is likely to order a wide range of blood tests (mine were 100 percent covered by insurance), which can reveal much more than even an office examination. And yes, you will need to see her again to discuss the results. All of this takes time. However after three years under Dr. Cooke's care, I find myself in better health than ever, and I've been able to escape the cookie-cutter health care approach of the pharmaceutical-industrial complex. I should add that for this level of health care, I find Dr. Cooke's fees very moderate. read more
