We know the store markets itself as a Christian-owned business, so we expected displays honoring Christ's victory over death--crosses, empty tombs, or verses like 1 Corinthians 15:20 proclaiming Him as the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. What a letdown. The aisles were overrun with pastel Easter bunnies, eggs, and chocolate-themed trinkets--secular fluff that turns the holiest day of the year into a candy holiday. She hunted for anything pointing to the risen Savior, but it was slim pickings: a few generic crosses buried among the pagan holdovers. This isn't what Easter means to us. It's about Jesus conquering the grave, not hopping rabbits. Hobby Lobby, if you're truly standing for Christ, why not lead with the Gospel truth instead of blending in with the world's watered-down version? We left empty-handed and disheartened.

Multiple times I heard the staff talking to each other about not wanting to be there and wishing the store would close already. The cashier was unfriendly and could not be bothered when I asked a question about a sale item. She just yawned multiple times and pointed to the tag. She wouldn't clarify how the yellow tag system worked and refused to even communicate with me beyond saying yes or no. I felt like I was inconveniencing her. The manager finally stepped in and answered my question politely and clearly. This used to be my favorite store, but it is no longer worth it if I have to be treated like I'm imposing on the employees by shopping there.

I needed 4 textbooks for the semester, so I showed the woman behind the counter my schedule and she brought me 4 books. When I got home, I went through the books and two of them were the wrong ones. This has happened to me at multiple bookstores in the past, so I was mildly irritated but I got over it. I went back the next day to exchange the two books, and the woman behind the counter seemed very put out by having to take care of the transaction...even though it was her that gave me the wrong ones in the first place. A few months go by and it is time to return my rentals. The books were due back by Monday, May 6th. I decided to return the books the previous Friday because that was the day that I finished my final exams, and I work long hours most days of the week. I looked up the store's website, and the hours were posted as 8:00-5:30 Monday-Friday. I left at 4:00 to take the 20 minute drive to get to the store, and I pull up only to see a sign that has the "new hours effective May 1, 2013" Monday-Thursday 8-4:30, Friday 8-4. As I drove off, two more customers pulled up, both of them as visibly irritated as I was. The store is closed all weekend, and my shift on Monday was 9-7, so there was no way that I could get the books turned in that day. That night my card was charged $500+, and I over drafted on my account because of it. I went in to the store on May 7th, books in hand. What do you know? The same grumpy woman is working the counter. She ranted and raved about how much of an inconvenience it was that my books were late, then proceeded to call me a liar when I told her that I didn't get any of the 4 emails that she claimed she sent me about my late books. I showed her my inbox on my phone and she continued to gripe about the inconvenience to HER. Then when she finally tried to process the refund to my card of the $524, SHE DIDN'T EVEN KNOW HOW TO USE THE COMPUTER. She had to ask 3 people how to refund the money to a credit card, and I find it hard to believe she has never done it before. I was there for 45 minutes waiting for her to refund me, as she gave me nasty looks and rolled her eyes. She made a point of telling me 3 separate times that the late fee would still apply to me, and circled and highlighted it on the 5 different pages that she gave back to me. I work in retail, and she is one of the nastiest people I have dealt with in a while (anyone else who works in retail knows that that's saying something!!) Just a tip for Lemox, you might have a convenient location, but that will only get you so far. Your reputation is not good around campus. If you treat your customers like a burden, pretty soon you won't have any.
