We know the store markets itself as a Christian-owned business, so we expected displays honoring Christ's victory over death--crosses, empty tombs, or verses like 1 Corinthians 15:20 proclaiming Him as the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. What a letdown. The aisles were overrun with pastel Easter bunnies, eggs, and chocolate-themed trinkets--secular fluff that turns the holiest day of the year into a candy holiday. She hunted for anything pointing to the risen Savior, but it was slim pickings: a few generic crosses buried among the pagan holdovers. This isn't what Easter means to us. It's about Jesus conquering the grave, not hopping rabbits. Hobby Lobby, if you're truly standing for Christ, why not lead with the Gospel truth instead of blending in with the world's watered-down version? We left empty-handed and disheartened.

We were immediately greeted and when I told her my daughter is a little artist and want to feed her passion of art. The owner took the time to walk my 8yr old through the store explaining and showing her all that my daughter wanted to know or might be interested in. Along with that she also informed us of classes that the store has taught by local artist. By the time we left with some art supplies/work my daughter couldn't stop talking about how much she loved the store and can't wait to come back for the classes. Local business that I will gladly support. So very pleased and happy we finally stopped by to look inside. Amazing local artist and their art work along with amazing hospitality and very personable. We felt very welcomed.

I stood there for 15-20 minutes reading all the snarky socks before meandering around to look at the art, art supplies, and toys. It was the socks that brought me back the next day. I knew i had to get at least one pair, but couldn't really decide. The proprietor who was sitting behind the counter the entire time that I was in the store on both days, told us that they were quite popular. She said that quiet little old ladies love to come in and buy the ones with curse words on them. And we knew they were popular since they were sold out! I decided on two pair: "Shoot for the moon. If you hit Mars, Bonus." and "Screwing Up is Part of the Program". I was quite tempted by the floral print with a hammer that said "Pretty Hammered." It's a charming shop with a friendly proprietor and quite a mix of product offerings.

We were able to make a reservation just the day before online, but this availability may vary during more peak seasons. We were there during the shoulder season. The kids class (Shard Shop Original Art Class) is really reasonably priced and they had a blast creating their own piece of art! Strange, but their only other location is in New Orleans. We showed up on time for our appointment and did not feel rushed. There was one party leaving and another party was there with us, so my kids had their own table full of supplies. They have sample you can base your art off of, or you can freestyle it. Everything was included! Note that it takes a little over 24 hours for your art to cure so don't plan this the day before or the day you are leaving the area. They can always mail it to you, but there is a cost associated and it's more fun to pick it up yourself.
