If you're not local and don't know about red carpet, you may be a little taken aback on first visit. This is definitely a dive bar but a beloved dive bar to the locals. The decor is what it is and we don't mind. It is pretty much the only place in Charleston that has an outdoor patio and a rather large one at that. It is also dog-friendly on the patio. Thursday nights in the summer they have a grill night and offer your choice out of two meat options and comes with a couple sides. Very delicious and very reasonably priced. FYI, if you're interested in eating on Thursdays, you should call them in the afternoon to reserve your meal as they usually are reserved up pretty quickly. It's not something you can arrive at the bar and just order. They sponsor the local kickball league so you'll often see young folks in their team T-shirt's hanging out on the patio after the game. You'll see a diverse mix of people at this bar and it's definitely a safe bar to imbibe at. The drinks are very inexpensive compared to anywhere else. Great spot! Locals approved! read more

I called on Saturday and asked what time they closed, a very grouchy woman answered the phone and said 'I don't know!??Sometimes we close at two or three it just depends.' The Red Carpet is the purest version of a dive bar in existence and I will not hear it spoken ill of. They just got bought out so the drinks are no longer absurdly cheap, just normal cheap, but they still serve watermelon shots out of an antifreeze container and the servers/bartenders never change. If you tip well and come semi-regularly, you receive a hero's welcome when you walk in the door, no matter how long it's been. It is a treasure. read more

Large open bar area and possibly the largest enclosed patio in the county...smoking is permitted outside. I have been to the Red Carpet Lounge on multiple occasions. I have always thought highly of the Red Carpet, it being one of my favorite/convent bars on the east end. However, I my feelings have completely changed after my last experience during St. Patrick's Day so bad that I felt writing this review was necessary. While waiting to receive my drinks one of the group I was with got confronted in a very hostile manner by the bar manager. With no apparent reason after demanding to see the individuals I.D. which was valid ordered him to leave with no explanation. Aggressive in his language and gestures he verbally assaulted the whole group who was confused by the whole situation and we still don't know why he was ordered to leave. Thankfully our night wasn't ruined but I refuse to ever go back! read more

The bar is decent enough. The crowd is a bit old and boring. The only real negative is the staff. I waited at the bar for 20 minutes to get one beer. I opened a tab, drank one beer and decided to leave. After trying to get the bartenders attention for 15 minutes to close out my tab, I finally walked up to him and said I would like close my tab when you get a chance (he was too busy flirting with a few girls to do his job I suppose). He then proceeds to yell at me about how if I would tip better, I would get better service, humiliating me in front of the whole bar.
