This place is fabulous. I didn't go on the rooftop which I'm told has some fun soirees. The lobby looks more like a hotel not an apartment building. So I'd have to say this is a luxury apartment building. The art work is beautiful. I took pictures of the 1st and 2nd floors. I'm happy I was invited to the Botox, Bubbly event they hosted in the entertainment/movie room. I noticed bike rentals, picnic basket rentals and exercise equipment that residents can rent to take across the street to the park or use on the rooftop. There is an un-manned convenience store (cameras of course), which shows they really expect high caliber residents. The self-serve coffee/tea/cocoa/wine bar is pretty cool also. Various seating areas separated by a dual glass crystal fire place makes this place fabulous as you wait for guests. There is outdoor seating on the patio overlooking Shaw Park and the swimming pool for swimmers during the summers, ice skaters in the winter. Add to this.... offices spaces and much more! Luxury? We were excited to lease a penthouse in Clayton, MO at Clayton on the Park as we split our time between St. Louis and Winter Park, FL. Unfortunately, we have had many water leaks from the ceiling and the recessed lights. After yesterday's storm the "fixes" that the maintenance crew used previously have failed and the ceiling has caved. The water is now spreading in the ceiling to multiple rooms of the penthouse causing massive leaks and water build up. This is now impacting apartments below us. The maintenance crew has been unresponsive for mitigation actions. They will not cover any of the furniture or tarp the failing roof areas to mitigate further damages, after multiple requests. They have also used our beautiful china and our trash cans to catch water from the leaks. Finally, no one will speak with us about the remediation plan. read more

Do not live here. Go legit anywhere else I've lived here for less than a year, and not a single month has gone by without major maintenance issues that make the apartment feel like a construction zone. When we moved in, the unit was dirty, with paint splatter on the floor. A cleaner was promised she showed up, barely touched the bathroom, then left and never came back. From day one, the WiFi didn't work for three days. The toilet had to be fixed six times before it functioned properly. The kitchen sink has leaked and exploded twice. The dishwasher leaked and fell out of the counter. The living room AC stopped working, and management initially refused to fix it due to "overtime" until legal action was mentioned. There's been a bedroom leak for four months that still hasn't been resolved. The only response has been putting in loud industrial dehumidifiers and repeatedly pulling up and re-gluing the same wet flooring. The living room windows leaked , twice. Hot water has been out for multiple days. The "luxury" amenities? Often broken , for example, the theater room was out of order for four months. Despite paying nearly $3,000/month, we've received nothing close to a livable, finished space. Management avoids real solutions and defaults to temporary fixes and dismissive responses. We asked for a lease break or one month of rent credit , both were ignored. If you want ongoing repairs, loud equipment in your bedroom, and unresponsive management this is the place for you. Don't let the "luxury" experience fool you. The lobby and the common areas are beautiful. Go up the elevator to the apartments and my experience has been less than satisfactory. I guess if you live on the higher floors where the "elite" residents live its well kept, but my experience after 6 months has been TRASH. These are old dated a$$ apartments with all sorts of issues. The air conditioner is so loud I have to turn my TV up high to tune it out. The water doesnt get warm on certain days (you dont have your own water heater). My apartment wasn't very clean upon move in. The blinds were chugged full of DUST and Dirt. The sink was just so clogged full of dirt and hair (IM BALD) that I had to call maintenance to come clear it out. Carpet in my bedroom should have been replaced (stained which im sure they will try and charge me for upon move out). They have you do a move in check list on an app. I done it but mysteriously when I looked on the app its "gone". Courtney the "property manager" is NASTY and yes I called her a bad word in talking to her, I'm not a liar. She's rude and dismissive and acts like people are beneath her. My laundry room smells like old water and the pan under neath the washer stays full of water and when I was it fills up with soap suds....They act as if im a problem tenant or my maintenance requests are bogus...look at the pictures, they dont lie. 0/10 I DONT RECOMMEND!!!!! REPLY: Sarah- My excessive requests have been LEGITIMATE. Yes I did accept the unit. No I didn't storm off the because the costs, I still plan to move it had nothing to do with the costs it had to do with how she spoke with me. Please don't make this about how much it cost to move. You guys are a joke don't get on here and LIE the washer was NOT WORKING BECAUSE THE pipes had issues (hence the hole in the wall). This is the SECOND washer, as a matter of fact you're right you all were in my apartment yesterday cleaning out hole where the water is supposed to drain too because it was clogged. An older unit comes with dirty carpet? I have pictures to substantiate every maintenance request I've filed. Old doesn't mean you all don't make sure the apartment is clean and ready to move into. What does me breaking my lease have to do with me living in your building oh what lol you want to make it seem as if I'm a chronic complainer...you get your $1680 each month on time and you'll get ample notice when I break this lease just be sure to apply the $1600 deposit I paid back as well. You're pretty much saying because I took an older unit it comes with older problems that I'm supposed to shut up and deal with. I've lived here for about a year now and 1 star is the most I could give. The only thing good about this apartment are the concierge people. They are always nice and helpful. I've heard at least 5 construction starting 8am in the morning. Those were loud af so you could literally hear them from 1st floor to the rooftop. Asked the leasing office and they said: they were allowed to do so. The in-unit dryer was not usable. I need at least 4 cycles to dry up my clothes. I have filed 4 maintainence requests about it and they told me different things each time. But it just never got better after all those repairments they've done. And changing a new one was never an option for them(too expensive I guess). The air conditioning was not working sometime. It automatically sets its temperature to extremely low in the summer and fails to heat up in the winter. And during my stay here, I experienced a carbon monoxide leak from the malfunctioning heating. Another issue is that the Ethernet cable in units are not available. Renters are only allowed to use the WiFi they provided which is really unstable in evenings. I've asked the provider who said they only need leasing office's word to enable the cable. The leasing office either ignored my request or said they don't know and they can't do anything about it. read more

1 star is way too high for this building. -10 stars. COTP exhibits fake niceness. I love the concierges, Al and Alexis, as well as Gerald. Have lived here for half a year with one year left - I deeply regret moving in. For context, I am currently a WashU student. They verbally said (because god forbid email and get it in writing) I could get a stackable washer dryer unit by the end of the year (2023) which never happened. There was carbon monoxide leakage in the building (got on the news) and other residents were notified by some staff and evacuated, I was not. Was also walked in on by a worker while i was naked, and then had him tell me about it in the elevator in front of other residents. I was also threatened in the gym during a workout by the work out guy Robin or whatever, stating that I should "watch my back if Brooke (from leasing office) husband ever sees me" Upon every instance, the building did absolutely nothing to rectify the situation. I am still waiting on an email from Brooke for 2 months now about my washer/dryer situation even though I have asked her ten times. Such a cheaply run building, can't spend money on anything - even the holiday parties suck, horrible food selection with like 3 drink choices . Live elsewhere for your money! read more

I moved to Clayton on the Park (COTP) in spring of 2015 after seven years of living in downtown Saint Louis. The move was mainly to be closer to work (Creve Coeur) to reduce my commute time. The second day after moving in I heard a consistent "thud" or "knocking noise" once every 15-to-30 seconds the entire day, through the night and into the next day. This sound was loud enough to be heard during my sleep. I reported this on the web based maintenance system and received an email reply of "we will turn off the compactor at night" and the maintenance ticket being closed. The "compactor", being the trash compactor, was in the basement (I was on the seventh floor, residential starts on either the third or fourth floors). I replied that if this meant the noise issue would persist through daytime hours that this was not going to be an acceptable response. I received no response from maintenance or anyone at COTP. The next day I started hearing the noise again at 6:30 AM and insisted the repair request be reopened. Again I received no response. The day after this I report the issue to COTP management. A member of the management team voluntarily admitted the noise issue was "not acceptable" and would work with the property manager to resolve the issue. The property manager was CC'd on this email. Over the next many days - you guessed it!!! The noise continues often non-stop for days on end. It's not uncommon to be woken up by it at any hour of the night. I of course continue to call and email management during this time. I'm polite while doing this. I've lived in high rises most of my adult life and realize "stuff happens". The best they can tell me is that they are "looking into a solution". Long story short, three plus weeks and the issue is continuing while, I think understandably, I'm starting to lose my patients. After being woken up yet again in the middle of the night on a weekday by this noise I inform both lead management individuals that if the noise is not resolved in the next few days I will either need to be moved to a new apartment or refunded my payments thus far and my lease terminated. I explained this to both of the lead management individuals of COTP over the phone and through email as well as a face-to-face visit to the property manager's office. They acknowledge and understand this, yet there is no follow up from them and the noise continues. The next week I am yet again woken up during the middle of the night by the faulty trash compactor in the basement. That very morning I visit the property manager's office in person and clearly let her know I had lost all faith in the abilities of the management at COTP and request nothing less than a full refund and termination of my lease. The next morning I receive an email from the property manager. She fabricates the idea that I have only given her "a couple of days" to resolve the issue and she also fabricates the idea that she has offered to move me to a comparable apartment. Meanwhile, the noise issue continues to be clearly heard in my apartment that very morning. At that point, I'm done and want nothing more to do with COTP. I had moved in on April 27th and was out by May 29th. Five weeks of the equivalent of Chinese water torture with complete inaction of management. I have the entire history documented for the sake of legal action. There were 19 (yes, nineteen) points of contact with the management of COTP over those first four weeks, frequently with no response from them and the issue persisting. I've lived in numerous buildings and high rises over the years. I have never had an incident anywhere near as bad as this one. I'm blown away by the lack of action and the amount of incompetence of the management of a building that markets itself as such a high end residential experience. read more

Displeased with the term "luxury living" or "luxury Apartments" unless you consider hearing neighbors dog barking (from within your own unit), doors slamming, berber carpet, loud air conditioners and paper thin window shades that let light in from surrounding buildings & street lights at night luxurious. At least that was my personal experience. There are no fans in the bathroom, so be prepared for a steam filled bathroom and moist walls/decor/towels. Additionally, without a fan, unpleasant odors do linger. The units with washers and dryers....don't bother. You may as well use the community laundromat as they don't accommodate large loads and it was my experience that took me sometimes 2-3 cycles to dry loads of laundry. When we moved in, I had to have my own cleaning company come in as it was hardly what I considered clean or prepared for me and my family---including the air vents. There was so much dust and gunk, it was terrible. The rooftop is nice and really the main attraction, but in my opinion, only on the side facing Shaw Park. The backside facing the arch is not furnished and the outdoor equipment makes it too loud to converse on that side. Be prepared for an added & pricy expense getting family packages from the City of Clayton Parks and Recreation if you have children or want to swim across the street at Shaw Park. I agree with a previous poster from a financial standpoint--be very thorough and get everything in writing. This is a pet friendly environment, which was nice. However, you do have to cross over Brentwood to Shaw Park to take your dog to use the bathroom. There are not designated potty areas in or surrounding the immediate building that residents are allowed to use. Trekking across the way in the ice, snow, heat and rain isn't much fun. Damage to my brand new vehicle did happen in the garage such as door dings, dents and scrapes. I personally do not feel the spaces are meant for SUV's and larger vehicles, but compact cars. Use of the garage is not free. There is a separate added fee for storage closets in the basement and bike rack usage. You do need an access fob to get to your particular floor while using the elevator, however, I easily used the staircase from my apartment to get from floor to floor without one to visit friends on different levels. Honestly, you really have to be already here to get the full scope of what you are getting into, so potential renter be aware and do your research. Ask lots of questions and request answers in writing, no matter how little it is. I do not suggest telephonic or verbal communication. My experience with management was less than desirable. To me, this was more of a hotel not a home, but far from "luxurious." read more

I have read the other reviews. Having lived here 3 years now. WHAT I LIKE: - LOCATION: This building is the flagship of Clayton. Everything I could need seems to be within walking distance. Need to go downtown? The Metro is 3 blocks away. Need to go to the Airport? 10 minutes away. With Shaw park directly across Brentwood, you can get out and get active. - SECURITY: There is building security/concierge in the lobby most of the time. Even if you get past them, the elevator requires an access card. It is difficult to get around the building without a key card. If you do not belong on my floor, the elevator will not let you select it. The city feels safe too. The Clayton Police Dept is a block away. It is difficult to go out the door and not see a police car. I was here for the Ferguson turmoil and never once did I feel unsafe. Not even while the helicopters circled outside. - COMMUNITY: I have never known so many of my neighbors before in my life. The building does an excellent job of planning events that vary to accommodate a wide variety of interests. Healthy cooking classes, yoga/exercise classes, fancy parties, and just-because happy hours get people talking. - DOG FRIENDLY: I have 2 dogs that love living here. It can be tedious crossing Brentwood Blvd (especially in winter) but having the park across the street is a huge convenience. There is also a dog park about a mile and a half away. Not everyone loves dogs so if you do not want to ride the elevator with them you may not like it here. But they are only allowed on the main floor, Pet spa for a bath, and of course inside the apartment. WHAT I FEEL COULD IMPROVE: - PRICE: This is always an issue. Here you pay a steep price for location. The apartments are nice but they are not worth the price without the location. - LAUNDRY - the units have very small machines that can get the job done but the load size needs to be very small. There is a public laundry but the residents abuse it. Some days it looks like a clothing store exploded because there are clothes laying around everywhere. They use them like they are their own and do not think twice about using all five washers at the same time. I only take on that fight if I need to wash the bedding. This can only be accomplished in the larger machines. - STAFF: To be fair, the staff you see today only has 1 member that was here when I moved in. But I think there is a level of disorganization on the leasing side of the staff that can really grate people's nerves. Moving is a very stressful time. When they arrive to move in, the apartment needs to be turn-key. Better maintenance records and perhaps management walk-through would put the Luxury back into that side of it. The staff has improved greatly recently but they still have a very high turn-over rate that indicates they are still attempting to rebuild the team. Everyone is very nice but stamping the word luxury on the outside is only half of it. - CHARTER CABLE: So last night there was a huge pay-per-view boxing match. The cable was out for hours in the entire surrounding area because they are incompetent. They also have exclusive right to the building. And even if you do not have a television, you have to pay $80 per month for basic cable. I may need to review them next. I am definitely not a fan. - HEATING/COOLING: So each unit is self-contained. This means that there are no holes to the exterior of the apartment (other than the windows that can be cracked. So the units must be inside the apartment and attached to a duct that runs the vertical length of the building. The units are effective but noisy. - PARKING: The parking garage is nice. There is ample parking and I have had no incidents in 3 years. However, it is owned and operated by the City of Clayton and is shared with the bank next door, the government buildings, and Shaw Park. If they get the restaurant they have been promising for 3 years, it is going to fill up even faster. That being said though, it is 6 stories and has its own elevators. Be prepared though, it costs $50 per month for the first car and $70 per month for the second. - ATTITUDE: There are temporary residents in the building mixed in with the long-term residents. Occasionally they bring their New York attitude with them and treat this like a hotel. The concierge can only do so much. They do not control the cable/electric companies or the company that fixes the elevators. And yes, sometimes one of the 3 [high speed] elevators malfunction. R-E-L-A-X read more

Our unit was beautiful, the building is quiet, the amenities are fantastic and everyone who works there from the leasing staff to the maintenance people is so helpful. I just recently concluded a two month short term rental at COTP and I'm sad to have had to move out. It was perfect for what I needed during my stay in STL. The building mama vent, in particular, Penny was fantastic and responsive throughout. The building is meticulously clean, professionally managed, the mobile ap is uber convenient and the concierge staff is very pleasant and provide great service. The amenities are top shelf, but unfortunately the winter weather prohibited me from taking advantage of everything the building has to offer. Future residents, here is some advice from someone living here. Do not expect to have hot water in the early evening in the kitchen. There is no hot water heater in your unit. Instead, the building has several that supply to multiple floors. Therefore, if your neighbors are all using hot water, you get lukewarm water. Hot water in the shower in the early morning does not seem to be a problem, but if you expect to do any dinner dishes, plan on boiling your own hot water on the stove. When I asked the maintenance guy about the lack of hot water, his answer was "well, everyone else must be using it". The building has a web site to report maintenance issues. There is a separate button for "no hot water". Just think about that. You have probably read other reviews concerning Charter Cable. I have lived here for two weeks, and still do not have cable service. The building management is working on that, but this is now 12 days after I notified them via email that I had no cable. This unit is supposed to be a fully furnished unit with all utilities. It is a corporate rental, so I sure hope they are getting a discount for no cable. The window blinds let in a lot of outside light. You do not need to have any lights on in the evening to be able to see anywhere in the apartment, as there is plenty of light getting in between/around the closed blinds. And yes, the combination washer/dryer. Don't bother. It takes approximately 4-5 hours per load. Then, when the dryer is finished, it has a "Cool down" period where the door is locked, and you are unable to get your laundry out. This lasts for up to another hour. By the time you have it out, it is over spun, still damp, and very wrinkled. If you like to iron, you will be very happy. On the up side, I do like the garbage chute, and the building offers recycling. The roof area is nice, well kept up, and pleasant. The elevators are always clean, and in working order. Parking is always available, and the location is nice. I have not had any neighborhood noise issues (so far). read more

We stayed at Clayton on the Park during our relocation process and loved it. The management and concierge staff are extremely professional, respectful, considerate, and kind. The amenities are wonderful; from the coffee and wine bar in the lobby to the gorgeous rooftop area complete with a grilling area, relaxing upscale lookouts over the Clayton skyline and the refreshing wading pool. We loved daily walks in gorgeous Shaw Park across the street. Restaurants in the neighborhood were very nice and easy to walk to. A perfect spot to live! read more

We moved here from Southern California and were pleasantly surprised at what a great location it is. We had a small dog and were able to walk it right across the street at any time feeling very safe. Having a doorman added a great deal of security especially for the late night doggy walks. The management and staff were all friendly and attended to any issues promptly. Clayton on the Park has events so that we can meet our neighbors, as well as amenities, which provide opportunities to mingle; theater room, gym, and roof top lounge to name a few. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here and highly recommend this complex. read more

Clayton on the Park has something for everyone: Amazing rooftop and apartment views, large bedroom sizes, over 20 different floorplans, even Yappy Hour for the pets. I love the Recreation Share program; grab a really cool on-site bike, tennis racket, soccer ball and head right across the street to Shaw Park for some fun. The fact that they support local businesses through the art program or donating to a residents favorite charity sends the message that COTP cares about their community. We decided to stay at Clayton o the Park during our home renovation. We loved it. Amazing maintenance. Our Hvac blower had a problem the day we moved in. It was immediately replaced. No band-aide fix but immediate replacement. The maintenance staff is polite, soft spoken AND competent. We rented a turnkey unit which meant fully furnished including furniture, pots and pans....and more than we needed. The building has a movie theatre that my grandchildren loved. There was a 24/7Coffee and Tea Bar and morning papers. Staff was extremely helpful. I would love to do an additional renovation of our home so we could spend another 6 months. read more

Took a tour and the leasing agents promise the moon they definitely under delivered when we went to move in. Luckily I scheduled the final walk-through a couple days before our move-in date only to discover that they still had not repainted were not going to replace the carpet as promised only clean the scratched up sad looking carpet. All the closet doors were broken, the granite in the kitchen countertop was broken. Ugggh. There is no follow through from the staff and they won't do what they say they're going to do. Sad for how much they are overcharging for the apartments that they advertise online much cheaper, yes the prices don't match either. Much bait and switch beware. If you are new to the area, this is a good first apartment if you don't mind the expensive rent. The staff and the neighbors are very nice, and there are relatively frequent social events providing opportunities to make new friends. And since the building is dog-friendly, there are plenty of furry friends to brighten your day. However, be prepared to deal with a few inconveniences: HEAT & A/C: The system is loud, especially as it turns on & off intermittently. This has been fine during the winter as I rarely need to use the heat (perhaps because I live on a higher floor), but it's quite irritating during the summer when A/C is a must. Additionally, keeping a one-bedroom apartment at 75 in the summer, even with all the shades down, is VERY expensive. ELEVATORS: There are only 2 elevators (plus a freight elevator that is typically locked) for several hundred residents. This can be stressful if you're running late before work, which is the busiest elevator time. Furthermore, in the event that there is a maintenance issue with one, as there was for about 3 weeks last month, get ready for a 5 minute (minimum) wait to get on a clown-car elevator. LAUNDRY: The in-unit W/D's are quite small and fine for a single person, but I can't imagine doing a family's laundry in them. And while there is a common laundry room with commercial machines, there are 5 W/D's (for the building, not per floor), so good luck using them on a weekend. APARTMENTS: While the apartments look nice on the surface, the construction is quite cheap, so kitchen drawers and closet drawers come off track frequently, and the lack of drawers or cabinets in the bathroom (or shelves in the closets) creates an organizational nightmare. Also, there is about an inch gap between apartment doors and the floor, so you will hear everything going on in the hallway. That being said, I have enjoyed living here. I would recommend this complex to laid-back people who won't get frustrated by the above-mentioned issues. I would not recommend it for people with dog allergies or dog phobias, or people with elderly dogs or puppies who might not be able to "hold it" while waiting for the elevator, or people with more than one small child (the key card access for the building and elevator would be difficult while child-wrangling). read more

I lived at COTP almost 3 years and I fully agree with William C and Doglover D. PROS: This is luxury living in STL! Location, location, location. The best of Clayton is outside your doorstep. As a non-native, I'd say it's the safest "urban" neighborhood in the metro area - close to all the restaurants, shops, bars, boutiques, services, etc. Nick the concierge is the best - always greets you with a smile and is very helpful. The building security is top notch, with access cards required for entry and to move between floors, which was most important for me as someone from out of town, and as a single lady travelling for work. Penny was great and has been there consistently for the last 3 years as well. She coordinates many fun activities, to help you meet your neighbors and to engage the local community; goes above and beyond what is required. Free coffee and tea, good gym, nice rooftop... My favorite thing - the thing I will miss the most - is how they manage your packages, automatically emailing you when a package arrives, and having to officially sign them out. I also found it really easy to have an apt cleaning service, because you can provide a list of people who can access your apartment while you are out; the building automatically emails when an authorized person checks out your apartment key. Also, I loved that I only had one bill (electric) outside my rent because everything is included in the rent check - they add fees for trash, water, etc. And if you have a dog, you will meet all of your neighbors - very pet friendly! Opportunities: The building management did change from the time I leased 3 years ago, to the time I moved out last week, so my only complaint is with the current/new management office. I actually liked the old Riverstone management co and found them to always be responsive and helpful; I'd formed relationships with the prior management team - they were very engaged. When I was moving out last week, I called multiple times, left 3 voice messages, and left a handwritten note to request a final walkthrough, and no one ever returned my call. That was pretty disappointing, even more so given the super-premium price you pay to live here - and that I lived there basically since it opened in 2012. I just expected much better service. I had to physically go by 2x and impose myself upon them to get the walkthrough completed. But all did end well! :) And, yes, sometimes you hear neighbors - but it is an apartment community after all, and the very high priced rent helps limit the tenant pool to mostly well-behaved professionals, some sports professionals, retirees, doctors, lawyers, etc. Given the other apt options in STL, I would most definitely live here again and recommend it! read more

I've since became a resident of the building. The staff works very hard to accommodate myself and all of the near full occupancy building. It's above any living experience I could have ever hoped for in an apartment. The amenities are magnetic and well taken care of year round for seasonal changes. The social events are very frequent bringing neighbors together for fireside good times with live music roof top, networking chamber of commerce events, as well as test driving an Aston Martin DB9!!! I'm very grateful for the 6 months I've lived here, the many people I've connected with, and the many memorable daily niceties available. I love it!! This is the place to be in St. Louis. The location, the building, the units and most of all, the great staff. These folks soar far and above with their services, response and hospitality. I lived here for four years and very much enjoyed my experience. The staff was always very friendly and maintenance issues were promptly addressed. I enjoyed all of the amenities at the property - especially the movie theater (which you can rent for free) and the beautiful rooftop deck. Definitely recommend. read more

After a fair amount of shopping around, we happily moved into Clayton on the Park in November, 2019. Our intent was to downsize and find a landing pad in StL for times when we weren't in other parts of the US that was close to to family and friends. We hit the jackpot! The location is ideal for going to and from both shopping and daytime restaurants / nightlife - some within walking distance, others a short Uber ride. The location right next to Shaw Park should not be taken for granted. The park has been beautiful and incredibly well maintained regardless of the season. Having a small dog, it's convenience can't be matched elsewhere in Clayton. It's also worth mentioning that Straub's is a half mile away. The conveniences and amenities of COTP are pretty special, too, from dog care, to dry cleaning, to rooftop grills/views, etc. Importantly, the feel of community at Clayton on the Park is remarkable. We were welcomed and felt included in numerous events from day one. So as "transplants" we immediately felt a sense of community that we're convinced would not have been found elsewhere. Events with new acquaintances quickly were replaced with times we anticipated reconnecting with friends and broadening our social and professional networks / connections. The COTP community is truly an eclectic and accomplished group, including all demographics. We couldn't be happier here. The only regret may be not having done it sooner. read more

"Meh. I've experienced better" description for two-star rating aptly sums up my experience thus far, especially for an apartment complex that sells itself as "luxury": - Move-in process was one of the most disorganized I've been through. Application was submitted and approved 1 month prior to move in date, yet still nothing was finalized until my day of move-in or later despite multiple followups on my end - Sent back lease agreement/move-in statement at least 2-3 times requiring revisions and still not finalized until day of move-in - Set of keys were not ready. Received 1 set of keys after waiting ~30 mins on move-in day, and then received 3(??) sets of backups the next day. - Garage key card was not ready. Did not get garage opener until the Wednesday after move-in even though they said it would be ready on Monday for my first day of work requiring access in/out of garage. Gave us validated parking tickets to use in the interim, but instead of sounding apologetic or organizing on their end, instructed us to try to talk to attendant and get her to let us out without using the validated tickets first because they charge the building alot for using them. - Modem was not ready - could not get wireless internet. Concierge opened up a "service request" to get a modem for us, but we just ended up going to comcast and getting one for ourselves because working from home is very inconvenient without wireless for many days. I went in and closed the service request indicating that we'd taken care of it ourselves, then a few days later a modem is delivered to our door?? - Asked for "missing documents" from my file a month after move-in - some of which were i provided weeks before my move-in, and some of which were never asked of me to provide - Also some not very ideal apartment features: air conditioning is really loud, washer/dryer barely fits in the closet and the closet door scratches against lid when opening/closing, have to swipe a key card to use the elevator (even after just swiping it to get in the buildling) and the card only allows you to push the button for your own floor (safety concerns maybe? but can be very inconvenient), doesn't allow food deliveries to come up to your apartment...have to go down to lobby??, have to push the elevator buttons really hard to get it to register (might just be getting nitpicky here, but just tops off my list of bad first experiences) read more

Held out as luxury apartments. The price certainly fits the description (potentially taking title for highest rents in the area). However, the service does not. Incompetent leasing office that made moving out nothing but painful. Botched elevator reservation twice and caused moving costs to increase substantially by having movers standing around waiting. Will be sure to warn off friends. read more

First class. Truly "the" place to live in St. Louis if you are a professional and enjoy living in a vibrant community in an active part of town. Whether you work in town during the week or live in St. Louis full time, you wont find better spots than Clayton on the Park. My wife and I had a wonderful experience when apartment hunting. Penny Wagner who runs the building does a fantastic job of giving you the in's and outs of the building if you decide to apartment shop there. She gives you the "no nonsense" showing I think that every consumer is after. The group that owns the building, offices in the building as well. This is an important fact because they spend their lives working in the same building you will live. Which translates to them constantly exploring ways to make your life better when in the building. Not one single complaint. It would be impossible to complain actually because the team in the building is too responsive to allow you to fully process your complaint. We (2 adults + 2 teenagers) lived in the building for three years, not so much because we liked it, but because it was convenient (we first stayed in a furnished apartment and then moved to a regular apartment, and so staying at CoP was the least disruptive option). On the plus side, it is within walking distance of the high-school and right across the ice rink, the swimming pool, and Shaw Park. There is also a Schnuck's super-market within walking distance and a number of OK restaurant nearby. Finally, if you have a dog, it is a pet friendly building. Unfortunately, there is a long list on the minus side. First, while the building pretends to be a "luxury building" it is a far cry from luxury. It is safe and clean with decent amenities, but nothing that would qualify as luxury. That is, however, not the main issue. The bigger problem is that the company managing the building is downright incompetent, and in my opinion not exactly transparent in its dealing with tenants. As another reviewer posted, the company changed a couple of years ago, and the change was certainly not for the better. For example, the building has a web portal through which tenants are expected to submit maintenance requests. It is useless, as nothing ever gets done when submitting a request that way. The only way to get anything fixed is by talking to the doorman and have him contact the maintenance company. Maintenance problems extend to the building as well. In particular, the building has just three elevators, including one freight elevator, which is barely enough given the number of tenants in the building (it is not uncommon to wait several minutes for an elevator during peak hours). Unfortunately, those elevators don't appear to be very well maintained and it is not uncommon for one to be out-of-service (my wife and daughter were once stuck in one for several hours before the problem got resolved). On a similar thread, Terence D complains in his review about a persistent thud noise that was ultimately traced to the building's trash compactor. I had the exact same problem when we lived in a 5th floor apartment (it stopped being an issue when we moved to a higher floor), but it was actually not a defective trash compactor. The compactor works just fine and is simply noisy. Rather than fix the problem by replacing the unit with a quieter compactor, the management company opted to ask the doorman to turn the compactor off at 9:00pm so that we could sleep at night.... Unfortunately, the doorman did not always remember and would occasionally leave (by 10:00pm) without turning it off. And I could go on with similar examples, which overall made staying in the building a relatively unpleasant experience (certainly not a luxury one). Another gripe with the management company is that they were less than candid during our move-out. The carpet in our apartment was old and pretty-worn out when we moved in (as I mentioned earlier, not really a luxury building). One of our daughters dropped some make-up in her bedroom that ended-up making a stain on the carpet. We tried to clean it ourselves but to no avail. The carpet fiber was so worn out that the stain had permeated it too deeply. We were charged nearly the full price for having the entire carpet replaced (minus a $200 rebate for the carpet being old). I guess that's how you get a new carpet in apartments that need it, but I felt this was rather deceptive. In summary, if you don't have any alternative, you'll survive, but I would certainly not recommend it. read more
