Hi Guys, please stay away from this building. The management only cares about your money. My car got broken into twice in the parking lot of this building but the management wasn't very rude and didn't offer any help. They made it sound like that it can happen any where in Saint Louis , so it's not their problem. My sister sent me a gift card for my son. They received the package and when I went to pick it up, they said they lost it and were looking into it . Later I was told by the management that I should reach our to the gift card company as they are not responsible for any lost or stolen packages. People from the building will randomly drop into your apartment without even knocking at the door , calling or emailing you, no matter what you tell them. If you are single and don't care about your privacy it might be a good option but if you have family and privacy and safety is important for you, never choose this place. Coffee machine at the entrance hasn't been working 80% of my time here. I wish there was a negative review option and I will have chosen that. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. read more

Montclair is great until you're actually a month into your lease, allowing you enough time to experience the many side effects of living here. The Google My Business Listing that they recently had removed due to poor reviews and new management was a better reflection of the 3-star apartment complex that Montclair represents. I've lived here for 6 months, and have experienced multiple DAYS where I had no choice but to go into work without my routine morning showers due to issues with Montclair's water. What seems to be their 2-year-long war with a cockroach infestation based on my research, and several encounters at my apartment suggests that it's still an on-going battle. They're about the size of Gatorade bottle cap, and when one crawls across your floor at 10 p.m. while you're preparing yourself for bed, you'll spend the next few hours wondering if one will join you that night or a night thereafter. If that doesn't keep you awake, surely the sound of Montclair's clanky internal pipes at 2, 3, and 4 a.m. will, or the frequent construction that occurs internally and outside the complex at 10 and 11 p.m. or extremely early hours in the morning. Montclair's maintenance staff is terrible. There is a cracked discoloration on my ceiling that has been present since my move-in, which has been reported to maintenance multiple times. It resembles mold or leakage from the above floor, and the most "maintenance" it has received is a note on my door that doesn't address the cause of the issue, but rather states, "It is still wet. I'll be back to check on it." I have not received another visit from maintenance on the issue in approximately 2 weeks. Today, I've found that my apartment, a newly renovated studio upon my move-in, has a leaking sink. I opened the cabinet underneath the sink this morning to find about 3cm of standing water. After attempting to resolve the issue with another maintenance request, I found that their password reset link for their resident portal is still not working - something that I reported to management several weeks ago. Presently, I'm unable to sign into the resident portal to address any maintenance issues or any other concerns that I seem to so frequently have in my "NEWLY RENNOVATED" studio apartment. Upon signing a lease with Montclair On the Park, I think that you too will come to the realization that this is NOT where you want to live. Hopefully, this review will have made a potential resident at least reconsider their decision to live at Montclair. read more

I lived here when I first moved to STL. So, 2009-ish. Loooved the location. Fun area for young adults. I lived in the studio which was the perfect size for me. Small, but okay for a single girl at the time. Definitely get the underground parking! However, be forewarned, I'm a nurse and would need to get up at 0500 to get to work. The valet were soooooooooooooooo hard to be found at this time, and my car would be blocked in so I couldn't really bypass them. I was late twice, even after I added an additional 10 minutes to my morning, to plan on looking for them. I ended up parking in the south parking lot on the nights where I knew I had to get up early just to get around this. Which was really lame when it's snowing in STL. Pros - walking to the bars and restaurants in the CWE. Chase Park Plaza is still one of my favorite places in STL and it's so close to Montclair. Also, Kampai is right next door. I love Kampai. read more

I've only been living in Montclair less than 6 months, but I am very impressed with the efficiency and professionalism of the staff in the property management office and the maintenance team. Couple reasons why I like this place: 1. On the day of move-in, I received a welcoming package from the management office, which contains some apartment necessities. It was very heart-warming and I definitely felt welcomed. 2. I love my newly renovated apartment with forest park view, in which I got to enjoy watching the amazing sunset every night. 3. I am very happy with how quickly the maintenance team responded to my maintenance requests. I really appreciate that they always call before they enter my home. 4. The staff on the front-desk is always very friendly and I never had problem receiving packages. 5. The management office handles questions from the residents professionally. Paul, especially, did a great job at responding to and communicate with tenants. 6. Just the residents in the building, mostly young professionals in the area. Something I would like to see happen: 1. Rooftop terrance, lobby renovation, and laudry room upgrade, still patiently waiting. 2. I have had couple friends over for dinner and hangout, and they had no problem parking their cars in the south side of the parking lot after hours and during weekends. However, visitor parking during the working hours is quiet challenge. Even though the visitor has to pay for the meter parking, can it be instructed more clearly (e.g. with signs outside building, etc)? 4. Very much dislike the door from southern side of the garage to the building, it takes forever to open. Can it be fob-compatible, finger-print readable, or voice-recognizable?:D 5. I would love to see some community events so residents in the building can get to meet each other. Overall, thumbs up for this apartment building. read more

I moved to Montclair in June. As someone who has lived in the property for over four months, I believe I have been here long enough to share my experiences. For those interested in the move-in process, it was relatively seamless. I was able to reserve the freight elevator and use the back alleyway for unloading. While the building itself is OLD, it is in remarkable shape. The units and facilities have all been recently updated; the quality of the appliances and renovations in my unit leave little to be desired. The only maintenance request I filed for a window AC unit was fulfilled the next day. I will say that I have had several concerns that other reviewers have shared about this property. I raised those concerns with the head of maintenance and building staff and learned that my concerns were already addressed or in the process of being handled. So, while Montclair might not be communicating to tenants that they are addressing our concerns, they are being handled. Some highlights from my first four months: - The main elevators were only down for maintenance once, and the service elevator was still available. - I was only here for one fire alarm, which occurred in the middle of the night. I have raised concerns about fire safety devices and procedures in the building, all of which are being handled. - I have raised concerns about lighting outside the building. Some lights have been replaced, with more planned for replacement. - There have been two occasions where there was a fly infestation in the laundry facilities. I was told this was due to a leak. Both times, the flies were removed using traps. The traps were effective. I much prefer the traps to an extermination solution as the facilities were still usable during the removal of the flies, and no harmful chemicals were used. - Montclair has hosted several events since I lived here, including complimentary wine Wednesdays, complimentary breakfasts, and a balloon glow watch party on the roof. The events always have a good turnout, and everyone I have met at the events has been great. Disclaimer: while I was not a tenant when another tenant was robbed at gunpoint in the building, I inquired about the incident upon moving-in. Since the incident, the exterior doors have been programmed to lock faster. There are already exterior cameras. As someone who understands the building owners cannot prevent crime in the area, I am satisfied with what they are doing to deter it from the property. Overall, I am satisfied with my experience at Montclair. I am happy with my unit as well as the staff, who has accommodated every request I have had. The reason for the four star review is the lack of communication with tenants. I would suggest to other tenants that they take the time to meet the building staff and bring forth their concerns. I believe Montclair will listen. Since my lease is a year long, I will update this review as things change. I am also be happy to reply to specific questions on my review. read more

I don't like leaving poor reviews but I want potential residents to know what to expect. I moved in September of 17' and the move in process couldn't have been easier. The leasing agents were friendly, helpful and accommodating. Since I've moved in though there have been a number of issues that have gone unresolved. I've had an odor coming from my pipes that maintenance has tried to get rid of since my move in but unfortunately they haven't been able to fix it. This causes the apt to smell at times with no rhyme or reason. My bathtub doesn't drain correctly, they tried fixing that but weren't able to- leaving me with a pool of water every time I shower. These are newly renovated units and the renovation company didn't do a very complete job. Because of that I am missing a radiator in my bedroom and went the entire winter without one. I had to purchase a space heater to keep myself warm during the winter nights. One time I stepped on a cockroach that was in my bedroom...yuck. The fire alarms also go off every few weeks. But there are some positives. The front desk employees are awesome! Maintenance guys are always friendly and try to fix things as quickly as they can. They have a laundry service you can pay for and washing machines in the basement. If you're looking to pay in this price range you'd be better suited in a newer building or one that has done a better job of rehabbing. read more

I am moving out of this community due to the management's inability to address a number of security concerns. Here's a few: 1) The building's fire alarm is easily triggered by construction or maintenance, leading to approximately 1 false alarm per month. However, the one time when the fire alarm did go off appropriately, we found out that the building's fire alarm does not automatically call the fire department. Five minutes of time were wasted before a resident finally called the fire department. 2) Someone was mugged at gunpoint in the lobby of this building. The management's response was to send us an email. No security changes have been made to the building, as far as I am aware. 3) I have walked through the lobby in the mornings to see unknown persons loitering in the covered portico of the building. 4) People often dumpster dive into the bins outside the building at all hours of the night, and the bins are arranged in such a way that your visibility is poor while bringing out the trash. 5) The management fails to secure the service door to the building. 6) False advertising. I was told a number of things that turned out to be lies when I opened my lease. I do not think this building is secure enough for its location in the central west end. I would not recommend moving here if your job requires you to enter and exit the building at odd times of day. You deserve better. read more

Had a problem with mice while I lived here - management does not care about your problem, your stolen laundry, that someone is parked in your parking spot, etc. The apartments are overpriced and tiny. The heating and air conditioning is a joke. My bills were outrageous and I had just two window units (did not even cool the place down in 100 degree weather). I loved being close to the bars and the park, but never will I live in CWE again, especially not here! Also, the Greek festival is held in the parking lots, so you basically have NOWHERE to park your car for 5 days. Do they reimburse you or have an alternative place for you to park? Lived here for 3 years. Super convenient if you work in the CWE. A short walk to bars and good food. And the building has a young professional vibe that I liked. The pros end there. The doormen are lazy. I do not feel safer knowing they're around. And they aren't around 24 hours anymore (rent of course did not go down with the cut in services). The management is indifferent. My friend had a horrible time trying to get their help when she had mice. The gym and laundry room are in the creepy basement. The gym is small and outdated. And the parking situation is bizarre. Apparently it is not unusual for the valets at the garage to scratch and dent cars. read more

The managers at Montclair, Paul and Sue, have handled this situation exceeding my expectations. Best place I've ever lived. I moved here in August 2010 and have been nothing but impressed. My apartment is adorable and cozy. The management is SO helpful compared to the building I moved from. Everything in the central west end is within walking distance! The fitness center is actually outfitted with a good amount of equipment so you don't have to wait. (Plus there's a sauna and tanning bed-- two things I didn't really look for but was pleasantly surprised to find!) I love it here. read more

I've lived here for 18 months and will be moving out in six months when my lease is up. First of all, do not live here unless you work at the hospital. You are paying a huge premium for being next to the hospital so if you don't need hospital access, its a waste of money. I haven't had any problems with cockroaches like others have had, but there are regular problems with the sink leaking in the kitchen. Also, during the winter we only get hot water in the kitchen sink. Not a huge deal but when we have to make our own ice, its certainly an inconvenience. Other stuff about the apartment: 1. Building is OLD as hell and while you probably can't tell from the pictures, you can definitely tell in person. 2. There's no stud in the living room wall??? So we couldn't mount our TV, even after seeking help from maintenance. 3. Fridge is very small, at least in the one bedroom apartment. Unless you are under 5 feet tall, you will have to stoop down to get anything from your fridge. 4. They do not take good care of the gym. 5. The window AC units are VERY loud, so you cannot have the AC on while you are watching TV or talking on the phone. 6. The laundry room is hot AF and humid no matter what time of year it is. Laundry is overpriced. Also, I have ruined several articles of clothing because the machine used hot water or hot air even though I had set the machine for cold. 7. The oven takes at least 25-30 minutes to pre-heat, and the rest of kitchen appliances are equally crappy. 8. Not sure what the building can do about this but the fire alarms are way too frequent. At least once every 2 months the alarm goes off in the middle of the night. All this being said, staff does put on some nice monthly events and if you're looking for a place that's temporary and close to the hospital, the Montclair isn't the worst place you could pick. read more

My daughter moved to St. Louis from Texas this past May to begin nursing school. She wanted to live in the Central West End to be near school. She and I came out in April to find an apartment and after looking for three days we found the Montclair on the Park. We met with Paul who showed us different apartment options. We found a studio that had everything she needed. Although she has a studio she has a nice, " normal size" kitchen and bathroom with a little bonus dressing room and lots of closets. Although the apartment is not huge, the view of Forest Park and the ample natural light make it seem so much larger. Even with construction now going on in the building, the building seems clean and safe. There is a group of very helpful people who staff the front desk all day and into the evening. Paul in the business office has been very helpful but not pushy at all. My husband and I were a little nervous about our daughter relocating to St. Louis but her transition to the city and into nursing school has been so much easier because of the Montclair. read more

Dear reader. I'd like to give you a number of reasons why you should stay away from this building. And I'll give you a couple of good things about the building too. The Good 1) The doorman(women) are such nice people. They are truly nice and caring people and I feel so bad they have to work in the same building as management. 2) The location is superb. Can't beat the proximity to Forest Park 3) The rooftop is nice but keep reading and you'll how it's not as nice as it seems The Bad 1) The main reason is the unethical and legally questionable treatment of the residents by the staff. For example, recently the building was taken by new management and renovations were planned. Sounds good right? Except that the management used this opportunity to kick people out against the stipulations of their contracts. Management literally told us and other residents that they could kick us out of the units if they wanted within 30 regardless of the contract. Being threatened by management doesn't sound like good treatment. So we were given one choice: move your things to another unit while yours is getting renovated. But the move would be to a unit that is not renovated, which means you have to move back again within a few months and pay higher rent too, of course. How about moving out of the building? Yes, some people did so and had to spend money and time doing the move. So they break the contract and nothing happens. What do you think would happen if you broke the contract? They surely would charge you for that. How nice. Eventually we the residents realized that we were all being told different things (no wonder they were meeting with each person individually). The worst thing was the repeated comments such as "our priority is you" or "we care about you". 2) Do you want to move into a building in which every single unit is getting renovated? That's a lot of noise every day for months if not years. 3) The building is nasty. There are roaches everywhere and the construction will surely get those critters out of the units being renovated and into yours 4) The surface parking lots are not good places for your car. In the last 3 months we were there, there were 3 separate events in which cars were broken into. If you wish to get an underground space (and you should if you decide against all advice to move in), you'll pay about $95 each month. 5) They'll show you the gym but they won't show you how nothing there actually works. Two treadmills, two ellipticals, two bikes, and weight lifting machine. Of these, only the bikes work. 6) remember the nice rooftop? It is ... except that you'd better enjoy it in the winter because in the summer it's overrun by roaches. So many of them that you won't be able to sit down on a chair for more than 5 minutes before a roach climbs up your leg. Give it a try. Altogether, extremely unethical management and a nasty building. Do not move in. read more
