I had visited Carillos Mexican Store because i couldnt find any normal chorizo that wasnt soy from any of the markets here in redding. So when i came across this establishment of course i was giddy with excitement as being from southern california there is no shortage of mexican markets out there. So naturally i was a feeling the blues when i transferred and move up here for work along every single of my co-workers recommendation on where the best authentic al-pastor is, well then youre kinda talking to yourself into thinking soyrizo cant be that bad can it? but thats not the point im trying to make here. What i am trying to point out is that i totally forgot the date of visit so this is pretty much a flashback dream review from memory and yeah you know what this store may not be as pretty or have the traditional décor that you normally see in Santa Ana or Los Angeles, but its intimate enough for one to get know the owner or staff members which is always a plus for youre looking something in particular and the way to get it is through a mexican markets connections, dont believe give it a try see how it works out. So when i saw the carniceria section i will admit, it wasnt what i was expecting, but the choices werent bad either and even though the dispaly for the meats counter looked like something out the texas massacre's gas station store display case, i didnt hesitate to pick up the seasoned chick and 2 pounds of chorizo, and with all the other little snacks and hair care product (moco de gorilla) i walked out of there not only with 4 bags worth of groceries but with a sense of comfort now knowing that if i ever need my fix of pulparindo's or japanese style peanuts i dont have to drive 7.5 hrs away to manifest it.. Finally i can only tell you how i felt and the experience that i had received when i had purchased from Carillos Mexican Store. The interior was bright and clean, the employees were friendly and acknowledging, they had diesel fuel available, there was adequate numbers of pumps with spacious maneuverability, and of course, plenty of snacks, beverages and fast edibles for the road traveler. I bring my own lunch from home a lot (or buy Ramen from them) and they let me use the microwave without any problem ever. The two brothers that run a lot of the station are always so friendly and even gave me a free item on my birthday a week ago! I enjoy supporting local places that treat their community with kindness and old-fashioned neighborly friendliness. Come here to get gas and snacks the next time you need to fill up or eat! I came here to this Chevron gas station market, cause I knew they do propane tank exchanges…read more Normally I have a couple of tanks for the BBQ and outdoor propane stove that has a big griddle on it. I usually just got to a place that will refill my tanks, cause it way cheaper and they fill the tanks to the max level. But they do check the date on the tank to make sure it's safe to fill, I think it's like within 10 years or something it has to be. But I had an old tank I got from a friend and I think it was too old to fill. You can tell by the valve handle, it has to be a 3 sided knob, not the old kind that looks like a flower. So, I got the idea to just do an exchange and the cage that holds a bunch of prefilled tanks. That way I get a newer tank I can refill later and get rid of that old tank. You just leave your empty tank out by the cage cause no propane tanks allowed indoors! Someone will come out and unlock the cage and exchange your tank for a filled one. I was hoping they wouldn't say my exchange tank was too old or anything, but I think the guy just wanted to get it done and go back inside the store, so it worked fine. These prefilled tanks are usually not filled to the max, so you don't get a full tank, but it was worth getting a new tank. Easy in and outta here. They take all credit cards, but I just paid cash.

I used the Gas Buddy App to find this nearby Chevron Station-one of the few businesses with power in Anderson. They were not only open for fuel and propane but had a mini mart for other necessary supplies like water, beer and ice. The station and store were very busy and the two women who were on duty that day were amazing! One seemed to be in charge while the other had started there only recently. They really stepped up to the occasion and provided wonderful service with pleasant attitudes and smiles for everyone. While they're primarily known for processing game, I'm glad we stopped in. What stood out to us: 1. Prices are extremely reasonable. $7/lb for Tri-tip and that isn't even a sale price. We pay atleast $12.99/lb usually. They also had organic chicken (although it wasn't labeled organic, they said it is) for $1.50-5/lb depending on the cut. 2. When asking what's popular, the owners mentioned the sausages are a hit with the locals. They make them all in house. I was particularly excited to hear that the sun dried tomatoes in the tomato basil sausage and the jalapeños in the jalapeño cheese sausage were grown in their garden out back. It doesn't get much more fresh and local than that! While we didn't try the chorizo this time, they also noted that it's a popular option and they have people purchase it in bulk to use at restaurants. One thing I would note is that it seems like their retail meats are sourced from a number of places . They have some stuff that they just bought commercially, some stuff that is from other fairly local farms, and some things that are processed right there in house. Sourcing matters to you? Be sure to have a conversation about it with them, Roger there they can tell you everything. One of the owners and her son spent a lot of time with us. Also note that if you spend about $200 or more they'll give you a flat discount off the top! We spent just over $200, and came out with 3 heaping grocery bags of meat to fill the freezer!
