However, as we discussed installation, he insisted that no ceiling brace would be needed when the weight-bearing wall was removed, and that " a couple of two by fours" was an acceptable alternative to the standard 4 by 10 inch header. When we insisted that both a temporary brace and header were essential, his bid increased by about 50%. Grant also told us that the only window manufacturer he used could NOT make a window with the coating we desired. He refused to even call and ask them, so we did, finding they were more than happy to meet our request, at no additional cost. We were relieved to have someone else do the install. BEWARE.

Remembered Glassman to the Rescue when I was doing windows research in the past. They had tons of 5 star Yelp reviews, which is why they were at the top of my contact list. Texted Nancy (the "glass girl" and wife of the Glassman) and she responded very quickly. Carlos the Glassman was able to stop by the same day (within the hour!) and taught me about how to keep the older windows lubricated. He sprayed on some magic stuff and wow, they were like brand new! He could have easily replaced parts and suggested new valances to make more money but he was honest with me and said that new valances would have issues in the future too. Very grateful for Carlos and Nancy's responsiveness today and for helping us with the windows! Will keep them in mind for future windows and glass repairs!

After reading the stellar reviews, I decided to reach out to both companies even though it was very close to 5 PM (closing hours). My first instinct was to call Blomberg since they were the original makers of this glass sliding door but Blomberg was closed so I called Dick's. Thankfully, Jay answered - he knew exactly what type of door I had and graciously got me an appointment for Wednesday afternoon which was only 2 days after the incident. All I had to do was measure the sides and he said they could replace it the same day. I couldn't believe it, I thought I'd have to live with this broken glass for much longer. He was kind enough to suggest setting a drop cloth to collect the glass incase it fell to the ground and caused a big mess so I did that the same evening.On Wednesday, Nathan (Nate) gave me a courtesy call before showing up on time and was very friendly and professional. He was ready to install the glass and realized that the border didn't match my current colors which was more of a dark brown instead of the chrome one they had in stock. I really appreciated the disclaimer because even though it was as a minor detail, it would have definitely been noticeable especially since the other side didn't match. They didn't know what color mine was because it was somewhat of an urgent request so everything was done over the phone. Nate said it would take about 1-2 weeks to get a custom order and they could come out and install it same-day. I opted to wait and he gave me the ETA as soon as got back in his van. I was worried about my glass falling and Nate offered to break it down for me and clean it up. I got to watch the whole process and it was very fascinating. Thank you for cleaning that up for me Nate!Nate called me this morning and arrived with a very nice gentleman by the name of Ivan. They arrived at 9:25 AM and were done the job by 10 AM. They cleaned all the nasty gunk and dirt that built up over the many years of the sliding door collecting and and were both so nice and fun to chat with. I can't tell you how much this stressed me out but I couldn't have asked for a faster and more professional glass replacement experience.
