I was thrilled and gave it a try. I arrived around 11:30am on Saturday and loved the atmosphere of this Latina shop. Each service I watched was dealt with care and every patron before me left looking like a beauty queen. I'm not Latina, but my years of HS Spanish came back with vigor. Juli, the owner, was so endearing and so were her stylists. They laughed while conversing with each other and their devoted clients. I didn't have any plans or needed to be anywhere so the time I waited for my service didn't matter. I was truly enjoying my time! A very nice young stylist whose chair is next to Julis, took me and knew exactly how to mix my color. Her shampoo skills were amazing and she even recommended a deep conditioner which I gladly accepted. She asked if I'd like curls or a straight style and told her to surprise me. She did a fantastic job with my style and my color was perfect! It was raining when I was about to leave and my stylist outfitted me with a plastic hair cover. I finally get Lisa who asks why I'm getting powder and tells me UV gels better and kept asking why I don't get it instead...I said I'll look into it if it's healthy or not...she persisted...I declined repeatedly..she started laughing and talking to the technician next to her-all I could make out was uv and powder in what sounded like a complaining, condescending tone. (The first time the leading lady tried to convince me to get gel as well but in a much nicer way-so it appears they don't like doing powder and removing it) Once she's done removing my last manicure she pulls out uv gloves and tries to put them on my hands...I asked her if she was going to do UV gel anyway even though I said no....she says yes, I tell her no, she starts complaining again in her language to the technicians near her. I had to ask if she knew how to do powder as I was beginning to get worried. After 2 hours the end result was fine, but in a color other than what I asked for and I'll probably have to go get them redone. So Be warned if you do go here...make sure you get gel! (And bring a translator) *also know they do not give complimentary massages while your nails dry as most other salons in the area do, instead they have a man who asks you if you want a massage, starts and then tells you the fee. Thankfully I picked up on this from seeing him do this to others before he got to me.

I was in a bind and needed a haircut in two days because that was my only free day. I was nervous because I've heard that due to COVID, salons were taking weeks to make appointments. Hair Express was easily able to accommodate my short notice appointment request! **This is a professional salon! It's NOT run by students** Barbara was AMAZING! She took the time to get to know my hair care routine, asked where I parted it, last time it was cut, etc. She recommended I cut off 4 inches because my hair was super long and super dead at the end. She also recommended just a straight, blunt cut because I usually just straighten my hair, and it honestly looks so healthy and sleek now! This is located on the second floor of the student center at Hofstra University. I think the price is great for the quality you get. BONUS: They also do nails! COVID NOTE: Hair Express took all of the necessary precautions - Chairs/stations were distanced, cleaned in between use, and everyone had a mask on at all times. I felt very safe the entire time.

I was asked if I wanted to charge the services but I opted to pay cash instead. I was assured I'd receive a statement via email. Fast forward to the next day and I see a charge on my credit card. I called and explained I paid cash and I was assured the charge would be credited and should show in a few days. I asked again for my statement to be emailed and confirmed my email address. To date I've received the credit to my credit card but if I hadn't noticed the charge would they have automatically credited my account? I was assured my card would not be charged, so why did they charge any services to it? To date I haven't received the emailed statement I was assured I'd receive. It's been over 3 weeks. The manicure was fine. The salon is beautiful. People were friendly and professional but sadly it did not go as I expected as far as payment.
