My family was visiting relatives in the area and we wanted an inexpensive place nearby. I found…read morethis motel on Bookings.com which initially listed the price at $390 for 6 nights, which if you do the math costs $65/night before take. (With tax, the rate is more like $413 or $68.90/night). This is for a larger room for 4 people with queen sized beds. We decided not to book online right away without seeing the place. When we got there, the manager was very nice and accommodating. He allowed us to look at the room prior to booking it. He also offered us a lower price than the internet price, which had gone up a few dollars since we had left from home.
We found the rooms to be very clean and free of bugs. There was no smell of smoke or anything else. The bathroom was small, but clean and modern. It had a nice sized shower and toilet. Outside of the bathroom was a nice sized vanity with a sink and a full wall sized mirror. The vanity served as an "everything shelf". It contained a blow dryer, coffee pot, soap, cups, tissues, and an extra roll of toilet paper.
The beds were a nice sized true queen sized made by Beautyrest, Wynham. The mattress was very comfortable, but the pillows were a bit stiff for my preference. The rooms AC was very adequate and delivered icy cold air. The cable TV and internet worked perfectly as did the refrigerator and microwave oven which were both modern and clean. The small table and pair of padded pleather covered chairs were also neat and clean. There was plenty of dresser and closet space.
The price includes a free breakfast from 6am - 9am (after 9am the manager actually locks the breakfast area door). Breakfast includes all-you-can eat toaster style waffles, corn flakes or fruit loops, cellophane covered pastries, oatmeal, coffee, orange juice, apple juice, yogurt, milk, English muffins, tap water. The eating area is small with only 4 small tables, but there were not many people there when we came in to eat. There is also a TV mounted on the wall, but the only station you can watch is the Cartoon Network. Also, the eating area is right next to the front check-in desk and the manager can watch you through a one-way mirror.
The motel also has a nice sized built in swimming pool, which has a roof covering it. The water was cold. No lifeguards were around, although there are cameras everywhere. On either side of the pool are patio lounging areas which were not used much. There is also an ice maker in front of the motel that provides an abundant supply of free ice (enough to replenish our small cooler). Also in the front of the motel is a washing machine and dryer. You need $1.50 worth of quarters to operate either. (We discovered these machines after my wife went all over town looking for a laundry place).
On the downside, the motel is over-thrifty when it comes to services. Although the cleaning staff did an excellent job cleaning the room each day after use by 4 people, they would only leave 2 towels and 1 roll of toilet paper. This is even after speaking directly with the cleaning staff. The cleaning staff told us the management only allows them to leave two towels and one roll of paper. Sigh. We ended up going to a local Walmart and buying our own towels and toilet paper. Same goes for soap (1 bar for the week!), coffee (never replenished), and paper cups. Also, the management is very concerned about people smoking in the rooms. I told the manager no one in my family smokes but they still charged us a refundable security deposit of $50 on my credit card in case we smoked in the rooms. Also, the breakfast area seemed to be quickly depleted of food and management did not check up to replenish the food. The first couple of times I choose different food, but the third time I spoke up with management that there were no more Danishes. He looked in his desk drawer for replenishments!!!
One day, I went for a swim in the pool. I only took my towel and plastic room key with me to the pool. When I came back to the room, the plastic room key would not work. I asked my son to go to the front desk to get it fixed, but the manager turned him away telling him only the person who signed for the room could get a new key. So, I marched over in my bathing suit to get the problem resolved. The manager explained to me that it was inappropriate to come to the front desk without a shirt on and he asked me if I would return later when I was properly dressed! Sigh.
Although the motel seemed perfectly safe and there were absolutely no problems, the types of guests that stayed overnight were a bit questionable. A lot of them were transient travelers staying for a night and a lot were heavy smokers.
Overall, this in not a bad place to stay if you are looking for budget accommodations. I would stay again if faced with the same conditions. The room was the nicest part of the stay. It was much nicer than others we had stayed at before. Best wishes!
