You're packed in so tight that your fire pit sits in front of your RV with a trash receptacle behind you. The restaurant Painted Turtle is in a nice setting but has less than mediocre food that is quite expensive. Some of the staff are nice while others are rude. Wish I had more positive things to report. Will avoid this place on my next visit.

A group of friends and I took a five-day "raft and ride" trip last week with Liquid Lifestyles. We…read morerafted for 3.5 days and rode horses for 1.5 days. We had an amazing trip! The rafting was so much fun! Our guides, Christian, David, and Scott, were extremely knowledgeable about the river and made every rapid an adventure. Just as important was their attention to safety. They gave detailed information before each rapid regarding what we should expect, possible instructions they might give ("hard forward," "get down," or "paddle positions"), and high fives after each rapid. We had also practiced getting pulled into the boat, just in case one of us was tossed out in a rapid. No one was tossed out on our trip, but having the practice made everyone feel comfortable and secure with our guides. Our horse guide, Ben, was equally knowledgeable about the horses and the terrain, and also put safety first. He provided excellent instruction regarding the riding and the care of the horses (we were inexperienced riders). He even taught us what to do if a bear walked into camp! The meals, prepped by Andrea and cooked by the guides, was delicious! Andrea prepared healthy, gourmet meals which our guides cooked over campfires. Food in a five-star restaurant never tasted as good! The guides were all friendly and provided an above-and-beyond amazing trip for us. Camping on a beautiful, clean river in the stunning and remote wilderness of Wells Gray Provincial Park was a special experience, and one which none of us will ever forget. All electronics worked without any problems, the sheets and towels were clean as well. The shower's water pressure was pretty bad, but how can it not be for being in the middle of the mountain. We never got our wireless to work either, but to be honest, it was nice not reading emails and facebook for 2 days! The windy dirt road leading up to the resort was something this city girl was not used to, and the lack of signs for the resort was a little disconcerting as well. But once you get there, the main office where you check in is conveniently located right behind the stone gates where you first enter the resort. The view of the mountain and the lake is magnificent, the food catered at the wedding was delicious, and the activity center was fully equipped with badminton, ping pong, swings, kids play house, bocce ball, soccer, basketball.. etc. Overall, great vacation at a great resort. Highly recommended if you want to get away from reality for a few days.

There's a cafe attached to the hotel with very good home-cooked meals. Much of what they serve is house-made (fresh home-made bread for your morning's toast). What an absolute blast!!…read more As newbies in the whitewater rafting realm, my husband and I booked a half day adventure with Interior Whitewater Expeditions (IWE). Located in Clearwater, BC, this expedition took us to the rapids of the Clearwater River in Wells Gray Provincial Park. Advertised as an exhilarating 12.5 km trip, we found our time on the river to be equal parts education, thrill ride, and sightseeing tour. It was a perfect introduction to this activity and the passion the guides had for this sport rubbed off on our entire crew. IWE was very easy to locate in town. We opted for a 10AM start time, arrived early for check in, filled out the required forms, and met the rest of the crew we were to be paired with. Our day started with a safety briefing after which we were set up with wetsuits, fleece jackets, and splash jackets (early June at the time of our trip). Bring shoes you don't mind getting soaked through (though they do have a wide variety of second hands that you can swap out for if you so choose). Next up was an adventurous bus ride to the start of our whitewater rafting route. Took a short trek to view some Class V rapids and learn a bit about the history associated with their power and why they wouldn't be a part of our trip. Then it was back to the rafts to gear up, learn all the commands we'd be acting on during our time on the river, and get some practice in. My husband and I were chosen to sit up front and what a thrill it was. I was a bit nervous at first, learning what to do in all the "worst case scenarios" but it was best to be over prepared. We knew what to do if the raft flipped or if someone went overboard. In no time, we were seated in the rafts paddling into the rapids. This trip started with the biggest rapids first before they mellowed out. Just wow! The mosh pit, the wall... our guide walked us through every step, shouting out commands, helping correct our technique, so that all could enjoy the splash of the waves and the crisp waters. I thought I'd be chilled through given the time of year but the waters weren't as cold as I thought they'd be! Mid-way through we made our way to shore for a bit of a break and another short trek to a waterfall we were able to walk behind. So powerful and a thrill to traverse. I'll admit, I was tired by the end of our adventure... but the good kind. It is certainly a very active activity. At the end of the route, all members of the crew act as a team to load the rafts onto the trailer and pack the gear up. Lots of staff people on the river with us in other rafts... it was clear their number one focus was our safety and preparedness. On reaching the main office again, there are showers available and washrooms for changing out of any wet clothing. Throughout the trip, one of the staff took photos so there was a fun slideshow to watch at the end of our time on the river. The photos were available for purchase at a reasonable price (and if you leave a review of your experience, there's a discount available). Although the rafting part was short, it was a lot of fun, filled with entertainment from Travis. The weather was gorgeous, the staff were excellent, and the day was perfect! I would definitely recommend people to take this trip! Although I did not do the full day tour, I would recommend doing the full day tour rather than the four hour tour so that you are leaving with more rather than leaving wanting more! This camp is amazing if you are a fly fisher person. Ownership loves to take care of clients and they are in the midst a piece of forest and lakes that have incomparable beauty. Fishing can be amazing with Kamloops trout being the fish in all lakes. Camp host smoke your fish if you wish....and you should, trust me. We keep and eat fresh fish for breakfast during our stay, yummmy. The food they serve is excellent and always a good variety. I could go on and on but you need to check out their web site and talk to them about the camp. We will go back annually as long as health allows us to get there. :)

How typical of fishermen that a 3-decade old establishment like Rock Island has no Yelp page - if a…read morefisherman isn't bragging, he's keeping secrets (or lying). This place doesn't need much more publicity than word-of-mouth, but hey I'll write a Yelp review in case someone needs convincing. Rock Island Fish Camp rents their six log cabins on the northern shore of Rock Island Lake. Along with the cabin, guests have access to rowboats on multiple trout lakes in the area, from which to catch the Kamloops strain of Rainbow Trout. If you bring a float tube, you'll be able to fish the lakes where no rowboats are maintained; the camp provides scouting reports on some 25 lakes, with boats on 10-15 of them. I've fished 9 of the lakes in the 5 years I've fished here; some have large numbers of small fish, some have smaller numbers of fish with lunkers cruising the depths, and some have a balance of those extremes. The quality of fishing is usually fantastic, as the fish population is large enough to withstand the relatively light fishing pressure. Fly fishing is by far the most common tactic, and this is a great place to teach a beginner how to fish with any tackle. if you are contemplating a trip to Rock Island Fish Camp, it's my opinion that it's best done with a larger group, with no one that doesn't fish. This is no place for spectators, as there is no 4G signal, no wi-fi, no municipality-provided utilities at all. Water must be boiled 5 minutes before drinking and electricity is available for a few hours in the evening while the generator is running at the lodge for supper preparations, laundry, etc. So round up your buddies and go fishing for a few days or a week, turn your phone off, and disappear into the north woods. Visitors should come well-supplied, and arrive in a vehicle with enough ground clearance to travel on forest roads. Bring rain gear and layers of clothing so you can stay comfortable in the heat or cold. Bloodsuckers are a major consideration, as there are lots of Mosquitoes, No-see-ums, deer flies, and horse flies waiting to bite you. Clothing with insect repellent woven in the fabric is a good investment, as are mosquito nets for your bunk and head. If you are a true outdoorsman, you can just let them bite you without complaining; I am not ready to make that step, obviously.
