Dear Sir, Here are the facts of the matter. 1. You offered me a recon gear box for £380 plus VAT plus carriage. I said I wasn't interested in VAT you said pay the Vat and I will stand the delivery cost. I agreed and said I wanted it delivered to D & M Motors Monday, the latest Tuesday of this week. You agreed I then ,with a debit card I paid you £456.00 When it did not appear on Monday I thought Tuesday. Late Tuesday I phoned and spoke to Dave he told me you were on a phone in another room. He told me that the gear box was picked up on Monday and that he would contact the firm and get back to me within a few minutes. Forty minutes later i tried to phone again. ( But Clever Dave had the answer machine on ) So I phoned your other number ( not so clever Dave answered the phone I once again asked for you but you had moved to another garage and were under a gear box working, He said the firm had not yet phoned and assured me that he would phone as soon as they had ) Needless to say he did not phone back. You phoned Wednesday and said you had not been to work because of a neighbours misfortune.( funny I thought you were on the phone or working on a gear box ) you told my wife it would be delivered Wednesday if not on Thursday. Now I'll tell you what i think and what I have done. First I think that 1. You did not have a gear box. 2. This is how you operate first, get an order then get a cheap box if you can. You Just keep stalling and telling lies until you do get a box. I expect the 2 year guarantee was about as good as your word. You did say you would post it to my address for Monday paperwork and a written 2 year warranty. That of course never happened. Now this is what I have done. First I have been to the Garage, they informed that I had stood for it. They said that Saturday the Tax and Mot ran out so the vehicle could no longer be kept on the road. If I wanted it towed somewhere they could give me a price. If not they would put it in their pound at a cost of £20 per day. Or they would find a genuine dealer and get a box for the same money as I Paid you. Now I know that to get you to refund my money quickly I would need some legal help. So to cut a long story short I went to the citizens advice . They have a lot of time for old age pensioner's like me. They made me a free half hour appointment with a local firm who operate a no win no fee system they claim their expense's from you. The man I saw told me that you had broken most of the far sell laws that have just come into play. He told me that I had to contact you and give you a deadline. He suggest that if the gearbox had not been delivered by 4pm Friday I was to let you know that the order was cancelled. He also said that I must impress on you that a refund was to be made in full on Friday at 6pm. We do on line banking so we can check at 6pm if this has happened. If no refund had been made by this time I was to let him know Saturday Morning I said I would call in anyway as I only live 500 yds away from his office. He said If that was the case I could sign the papers Saturday and he would proceed. When I asked what this would involve he said, Its very simple these days, I will get a summons issued through the small claims court in Northampton. This will cost approx £100 We will claim £1000 + vat for our fee plus £456 + interest at 15% per day plus £20 per day pound fees, On top of that the bank will place a charge of £25 to supply a statement showing the day time and amount you took. The garage will be asked for a statement to prove that you said the box would be delivered Monday 0r Tuesday then again on Wednesday or Thursday.If this firm wants to go to court, we can get transcripts of every phone call. This cost would be £35 per call. Plus we would get you a barrister they cost upwards of £1000 per day. I hope it does not come to this but unlike you I'm as good as my word I will be in their office Saturday and once i sign their contract it makes no difference if you refund me, because by dinner time he will have asked and paid for the summons to be issued. It would of course mean that you had to pay me 1 weeks interest plus some pound fee's plus their expense's. A hard copy of this email is now with my Solicitor. ( Just to prove that I have emailed you ) The pity is that i trusted your word. I should have checked like the Solicitor's man did in about 5 minutes he dug up 17 bad ratings most of them telling the same if not exact story. At that point in time I decided to do what I was advised to do. I tried to phone you several times today but you had once again decided not to answer your phone. F.Ward ps. Rip off scammers!! Do not go near this company with a barge pole. I took my Audi A4 to them 18 months ago as it was going into limp mode and from reading online it seemed the problem was likely to be the ECU on the multitronic gearbox. Whilst for new ECU's I had been quoted around £1200, this company quoted me £900. I had read online that you could get the ECU's reconditioned but when I asked Cleckheaton Gearboxes about this they said they had tried this approach in the past and every time the unit would go faulty again in a short period of time so they would no longer do this. Their only recommendation was that I bought a new ECU so I took their advice and bit the bullet. When it was time to pay for the job they tried to charge me £900 + VAT!! First part of the scam!. I was taking them my personal car and paying them personally so I argued that they should have quoted me with VAT and not tried to add it on afterwords. They agreed to accept £900 as I was paying cash. They gave me a warranty but not a receipt for the work I wonder if that went through the books eh? On getting the car back it was fine for a year and then started to play up once or twice again. The warranty they gave was for 2 years or 20k miles. The problem was intermittent and seemed to go away again. Almost as soon as I went over 20k miles (just my luck) the problem came back but much worst. Within a week I could not drive the car for more than 20 minutes without it throwing up this error and going into limp mode. I took it to be checked out by another local gear box firm. I explained that it had had a new ECU, etc. Having taken the gear box apart they found a that the ECU Cleckheaton Gearbox had fitted was not a new unit at all. They had sent my ECO for repair (Something they claimed they would not do). The company they use to do the repairs BBA Remanufacture charge £169 to repair these ECU's. So they charged me £900 to repair my ECU when it cost them £169 and then told me it was a brand new unit!! Use them at your own risk!! read more

BEWARE OF THESE GUYS! They took my car in, agreed to fit a new reconditioned gearbox for £650 to fix difficult/seizing gear selection. Handed it back after rushing the repairs on the last day with the gearbox in exactly the same condition. They had not replaced the original gearbox with a new reconditioned unit as promised but had simply overhauled it. They claimed they fixed some other problem I was unaware of and that the poor gear selection/seizing was normal for this car and would have been like that since new so there was no need to fix it. I pointed out it had been fine the 2 years before I brought it to them and they had accepted to correct the problem, but they claimed I was wrong. As far as I can see the only proof that they had done anything to the gearbox was an incorrectly refitted cylinder which leaked oil over my clutch costing me the removal of the gearbox again to have their shoddy work repaired elsewhere. These people do not do the work they agree to and are paid for. They would rather do a quickie botch job and then spend their time wasting yours by lying to your face and ignoring your phone calls. I saw them doing this to other customers phoning in while I was waiting in their office. They do not do work to a specialist or even basic standard and take no pride in their work. Gearbox and clutch repairs are expensive enough without having to pay someone again to redo Cleckheaton Gearbox's work again properly, as I am now having to do. read more

found these guys on internet after a long search for which looked the best website as you do,anyway i gave them a call After a helpful chat with Dave i think that was his name.they picked up my beloved merc 220cdi and said they would be in touch as soon as.Dave told me they would need my car for 2 to 4 days.plus i would need an after market cooler fitted if i tow a trailor or carravan which i do.Straight away i thought more money but they re-asured me that this is what it needs to stop my autobox over heating again.on the third day in the morning Dave rang me and told me my car was ready and they would drop it off later that day. I paid by card and got my car back later that day with a 2 year warranty invoice. all done with new auto oil cooler as well what a fantastic professional job.i have had my car back for 3 weeks now and it drives better than it ever has done im sure.And after reading some bad reviews about these guy i just can not believe some people,they must think they are royalty or something.Nearly forgot to mention the price was very cheap compared to other gearbox places in the area. , read more

I have a vauxhall vivaro and it broke down with a gearbox fault so i checked all the different web sites and come across cleckheton gearboxes who garage looked well so i rang and spoke to a guy called paul he gave me a qoute for a recon gearbox and new clutch and bearing and the price included recovery of my vehicle i told him i would need a car until it was ready and they lent me their own transit van so i could carry on working,they had my van two days and rang me to tell me it was ready so i picked my van up about 5.30 a guy called dave waited for me whom i payed and i was supprised when they gave me 2years or 24000 miles warranty on a van when all other garages only were giving 1year i have also been reading comments about there company and there seems to be nasty coments or jelous companys so thanks paul and dave and the guys in the workshop my van is driving great cheers, read more

My Fiat Punto 56 plate car manual gearbox started to grind as i drove in first gear. Drove my car to a local garage who diagnosed it was my gearbox. A friend recommended Cleckheaton Gearbox Centre. I asked my local garage to remove the gearbox and made my way to Cleckheaton. The guys located the problem within 10 minutes and quoted me a good price. The team repaired my gearbox within the hour whilst I waited! I would recommend these guys anytime. I took my VW Passat in with the gearbox showing an error message. The car was picked up from my home and back on the drive within 2 days. The message meant nothing to me, but after speaking to the main VW dealership, I was frightened to death at the figures been given. I payed the bill of £78 + vat for the car been picked up and repaired and told it was a faulty sensor that was causing the problem. Not been mechanically minded, it could have been anything and the bill could have been any figure ! I rang around a couple of garages about my mitsubishi pajero 2.5 automatic and spoke to cleckheaton gearboxes they gave me quote which was cheaper than any body else,i spoke to a guy called paul who told me he would need the vehicle for a couple of days he also collected my 44 on tuesday and delivered my car back to me on friday morning washed and driving great i have read some reviews about cleckheaton gearboxes and clutches but i did not experience any problems with them they did what they told me and also gave me a 2years or 24000 miles warranty so cheers guys. read more

My personal experience (faulty Audi A4 gearbox and ECU) of Cleckheaton Clutch and Gearbox Centre has been that they completed the job within the price quoted, and after 1 year when another fault developed, they came and collected my car and replaced the ECU, all covered by the two-year warranty, and all has been running fine ever since. I would say that the Watchdog programme gave a very one-sided view, and certainly not my experience. Based upon my personal experience, I would have no hesitation in recommending them. read more

I was quoted over the phone £400 for a reair to my clutch on a Rover75 which I accepted. When I called at the works I was met by Paul who checked out the problem. This turned out to be aproblem with the linkage fowling a pipe under the bonnet. The poblem was repaired there and then and took 30 minutes, Paul charged me £30. He could have ripped me off I wouldn't have known any different with my knowledge of cars. The job was handled professionally and honestly. Will use them again. read more

I would recommend this company to anyone. I traveled from Scarborough, not a vast distance, to have my gearbox overhauled and a new clutch fitted. I am so pleased that I chose Cleckheaton gearbox. They did it while I waited ( about 4 hrs ) and kept my campervan lovely and clean. Cleckheaton Gearbox undertook analysis & repair on my faulty Gearbox. Other specialists I had approached attempted to mislead me/rip me of by quoting for a complete gearbox rebuild costing 2000 quid of my hard earned cash, BUT Cleckheaton took the time to investigate & found the gearbox only required a part replacing. Total cost 220 quid. Bad reviews below cannot be real. This company could have ripped me off but did not. read more

ive used cleckheaton gearbox centre for years, always a good price and a good job, ive had a couple of issues with a gearbox failing after 8 or 9 month but only with astra six speed boxes but there a weak box anyway. but paul repaired the box with no trouble at all covered with there 2 year warranty, ive used them since and still use them now, no issues from me, DAVE @ NEXT BATLEY read more

I first contacted Cleckheaton in January 2011, to get my Audi A4 Multi Tronic gearbox refurbished. The guys give me the option of dropping my car off or they could collect the gearbox free of charge. I dropped the car off and was handed the key for a courtesy car. Car gearbox was refurbuished with a 24,000 miles or 24 month guarantee. I would recommend these guys any time. read more
