Finding a church that balances deep theology with a genuine sense of community can be tough, but…read morethis place nails it. From the moment you walk in, it's clear that biblical teaching is the priority; the sermons are challenging and rooted in scripture, never watering down the truth for the sake of trends. What makes it feel like home, though, is the pastoral staff. They are incredibly approachable and actually take the time to know your name and story. You aren't just a face in the crowd; you're someone they genuinely care for. The small group ministry is a huge standout. Instead of a one-size-fits-all approach, they offer groups based on personal interests. They offer Wed night adult service that focuses on learning more about the history and teaching of the Bible. For parents, the kids' programs are a total lifesaver and a joy for the children: Mother's Day Out and Wednesday Night Groups that keep the kids engaged mid-week with age-appropriate lessons that aren't just "babysitting." If you're looking for a church that is serious about the Bible but equally serious about loving people well, this is the spot.

Be very careful with this church. It has appearances of being biblical, but it is more of lip…read moreservice to the Bible without actually following its teachings. Many of the sermons are filled with the pastor's personal stories and experiences. Scripture is always read at the beginning of the service but sometimes the sermon has nothing to do with the text. This church is about growing as large as possible and asking for money. They share the Gospel every Sunday, which is good, but the pastor almost always talks about giving tithes, especially when they are falling behind their projected income. They say it's for the Lord, but they have extravagant events such as all-free steak and potato dinners for the men, entertainment, or games (but the ladies have to pay for their own meals at their events) and paying down their debt to expand. Their $3million+ budget is purposely hidden in terms of staff because they don't want people to know how much the senior pastor makes. It is supposedly an elder-led church, but the senior pastor seemingly makes all the decisions. Unless you go to Sunday School with one of the elders or go out of your way to talk with them, they probably won't know who you are. All this to say, be careful with investing your time, energy, and money at this church. But many people are very comfortable here.

Established in 1867, this is a beautiful church, architecturally! My favorite feature of an…read moreEpiscopal church is the red front doors and St. Timothy's has just that! It is small in size in terms of the narthex, the kitchen/fellowship hall is tiny, too. The courtyard is small-ish as well. The choir sits in the back and the antique organ is lovely as is the bell tower. When I joined this church in the late 2000s and attended regularly, I found it to be a high church. I like a good high church, and some of the things included in services were things I had never seen such as a kite flying in the nave. The priest and his wife were both sweet and incredibly delightful people, and I am grateful to have met and gotten to know both of them. I do hope this has changed! But, at that time the congregation were an unfriendly group and extremely cliquish making it impossible to get a foothold into giving time and talents much less fellowship. Despite diligently offering to do everything from pull weeds, trim shrubs, to make coffee - I was told "we have it covered." Good things about St. Timothy's: they have a beans and rice ministry for the poor and their annual Blessing of the Animals [1st Sunday every October] is small, and fun! Parking is behind the church in a dedicated lot and is a breeze. I think they are in between priests right now because the acting priest in Dec. 2019 was about to retire. He seemed to be a really loving kind person. Do try St. Timothy's or give it a visit just to enjoy it's architecture. Although I have found a new Episcopal home, I do hope St. Tim's will welcome you with open arms!
