I thoroughly enjoyed the time that I spent in this beautifully appointed tasting room. There were plenty of tables set well over 6 feet apart. Everyone was wearing masks. Which is a shame that we've had this Covid setback because we were unable to determine just how handsome our wine guy Devon is. You get 4 girls together of course we are going to ogle Devon. But just so you know ladies, he's happily married so retract your claws. There was beautiful artwork on the walls, a dashing young man waiting on us, so why only 3 stars? You know it has to be the wine. The first wine was a white blend, that to me had a bit of a sour finish. The second wine, a rosé called Pink Pink was drinkable. Then we were brought a merlot, a Cabernet and a claret. Most of us dumped our glasses into to dump bucket after one taste. With the universal exception of the Pink Pink. If you get a chance go see Kai at the tasting room. Just a wonderful experience and welcoming. The entire staff was very attentive to not just our table but everyone in the room. We were paired with a wonderful couple that just made the tasting that much better. Great conversation makes the wine that much better. Great wine makes the conversation come out even easier. All the while Kai is steering the ship and making sure everyone is getting to the next flight or next taste or the next bottle to add to what you will be purchasing. We had a wonderful time visiting Cliff Creek and doing a tasting flight! There was a good mix of wine varietals, one white wine blend, a bonus rose, and several types of red. Our favorites were their rose and their claret, but honestly there wasn't a bad wine on the flight. Even better, the blends are priced under $20 and the reds we tried were also very reasonable in my opinion for the quality of the wine. The staff really made the experience though, they were super friendly and attentive, offering some cool perspective on Oregon wine and info on how their wines are made. If you are looking for bold reds, I highly recommend Cliff Creek Cellars in Newberg! Not only are the wines fantastic, but so are the staff. They have a new Rosé that's phenomenal! I'm not a Rosé fan because many are made from Pinot's, and I'm not a Pinot fan. Cliff Creek has a Tempranillo Rosé and it is DELICIOUS! This was stop #3 on the day of wine tasting for my friend's birthday. It hadn't been going so great so far, but the staff here were wonderful! They were friendly, knowledgeable, personable, and completely lovely. They turned our day around! They made great recommendations based on what we were doing later that night and the next day: 1. Miss Hannah's Gourmet Popcorn (for us to take to the drive-In movie later), 2. Brooks in Amity, 3. San Francisco in Wilsonville, 4. Mexican Restaurant for dinner. They were very friendly. And the main reason that I gave as many stars as I did. The other great thing is that the building was built in 1910 as First National Bank. It still has the original vaults and hard wood flooring. It was quite wonderful. However, of the wines they offer, there was only one that I thought was even worth our time to taste. One of our favorites. The staff is so nice and one of them recognizes us when we walk in so that's good. The wine is really good and the prices are right. They also give amazing recommendation for lunch but the charcuterie board they serve is also really good if you want to snack. Yesterday I dropped by the tasting room while walking to the grocery store. I make a point to drop in and say hello to new businesses in my neighborhood. Wine tasting at 2:30pm on a Thursday? Welcome to my happy little life in Oregon wine country. First off the building is gorgeous, it was initially a bank, most recently it was a law office and people have left their touches over time. I love the decor in here and it is spacious, which is a bonus since many tasting rooms that are in storefronts can be a touch cramped. I chatted with JoJo- a quick online search states she is the Tasting Room Manager and takes care of wine club members- this does not surprise me... she is awesome! The tasting room was in Carlton for 5 years and just moved to Newberg. She gave me a tour and there are two vaults! So cool! They grow their grapes in Southern Oregon and do not make Pinot, they do however make big tasty reds. One thing I noticed right away is that they were pouring older vintages, which I appreciate. I enjoyed my tasting and bought a bottle of 2007 Cliff Creek Cabernet Franc. I even pre paid for the admission to the 1st annual Newberg Seafood & Wine Festival. I had a chat with my husband about this winery and I am excited to bring him back (probably for first Friday Artwalk tonight). Do I *really* need another wine club membership? Probably not, however if Matt likes the wine as much as I do- I don't mind if I do. Oh one more plus- they are dog friendly, yay! And the sweetest little Wire Hair Terrier Lulu Lemon is the shop dog. She is usually only there on weekdays, she was sooooo sweet and friendly, I love it when businesses have a four legged greeter. They are open 7 days a week. read more

This was the last stop on a spontaneous "WTF is in Newberg? OMG lets find out" adventure. This place wins on a few different levels. First, they have the testicular fortitude to serve southern Oregon reds in the middle of Pinot Noir occupied territory. Second, not only do they serve bold reds, they do them right. Syrah, Claret, Sangio. Etc. Third, Cab-effing-Franc. The wine barista was exceptionally friendly. We were also shown the library wines in the vault. I wrote that down as something to pillage whenever the zombie / rapture / alien apocalypse occurs. Back to the Cab Franc, the wife and I decided to pair a bottle (x2) with grilled bacon wrapped filet mignons. The outcome was to be expected. Decadence was achieved. read more

Had a super nice encounter with a gentleman at our local QFC store yesterday 4/19 pouring samples. I'm usually nice and try one. This time, one, then two ,then the third. I was hooked! Hooked on the guy behind the curtin telling me all the wonderful things about Cliff Creek Cellars ! Wow he was great but then came the tasting ! this is Cliff Creek's new location. it's quite interesting.. their wines come from Southern Oregon.. and their location is in the center of Pinot Noir territory. however, they do not make pinot noir and focus on other grape varities.. several of which i've never heard of. the lady working there (red curly hair) was great and extremely nice. their tasting fee is $10 and gets you quite a few tastings (6? 7?). also they hold up their vintages so they release older "aged" vintages from a couple years back. anyways, for those who want to try some non-pinot noir wines would enjoy this place. read more

I'm a big fan of this place. My favorites are the Syrah and Claret. Their new Sangiovese is quite good as well. I became a club member about a year ago. They have great deals on their Red Red Wines as well. Their new location is delightful in Newberg. The pours could be a little bit more as I'm a member, but other than that I like them. read more

So happy to have discovered Cliff Creek's new tasting room in downtown Newberg! Willamette Valley is the home of excellent Pinot Noir and there's no shortage of wineries/tasting rooms to visit and find your favorite. Cliff Creek throws a little variety into this mix because their wines are from grapes grown in southern Oregon which are more of the California style grapes like Cab, Syrah, Cab Franc, Merlot and even a great blend/table wine called Red Red Wine (a great value!). Regan helped us the first time my husband and I stopped in. She was great, so friendly and knowledgeable. Another great thing is that the tasting room stays open until 7:00 pm, has tables you can sit down at, and sells wine by the glass as well as doing tastings so it's a perfect stop on your way to dinner. I absolutely adore Cliff Creek. We were initially referred by the folks at Chehalem Winery down the way after discussing how we love big reds and they had a couple free tasting tickets to share with us. We ended up not needing them as I joined the club that very first day & I've enjoyed it since. The wine is great and at a good value, with a few $10-$15 red and whites in addition to the average Newberg area prices of $20-$40 too. Everyone who works there is extremely friendly and attentive and there is almost always some kind of food pairing event which really tops off each tasting trip and keeps it from ever getting dull. I love wine but I also love food, so it's a perfect combo. Bacon and wine, chocolate and wine, you name it! I hope to one day visit the other tasting room down south, but I have to admit they'd have big shoes to fill after we've so throughly enjoyed the Newberg location. read more

This is a great stop! Love that they are open until 7 and in the middle of Pinot country, they have some of the best big reds I have ever tasted from southern Oregon. Super nice people, beautiful tasting room, wine by the glass - we stopped here while we waited for our dinner reservation. They have a mix and match cheese plate and big open windows, excellent for people watching. They let us peek in at the "club vault" which is actually two authentic and original safes, as the building was a bank back in the day. One of the vaults holds their library wines. Pretty cool. They welcome your own food and the woman behind the counter said that they could order a pizza for you and have it delivered. Will definitely be back ~ took the club info and think we will join because they have some reserve wines coming out later this year that will only go to the club members.
