This Company needs to be investigated as soon as possible. Without exaggeration, Cliffs Towing is the predatory, coercive and dishonest business that I have ever encountered in Edmonton. My car was towed 12km and what ensued was just a show of unethical conduct that each driver in Edmonton must be aware of. A tow of 12 km costs 399.93 and that is outrageous. A tow that distance would cost market rate, which is between $150-200, and Cliffs charged it twice with false charges such as, fuel surcharge, gate fee, payout fee among others. All this is not like the normal towing expenses. They charged me $70 on a single day of storage yet my car was in their lot taken less than 5 hours. This in itself is a big pointer of predatory billing. They attempted to hold my invoice till I paid. In my request to be given the itemized invoice, prior to money payment (like any other business would offer), the employee refused and insisted I pay first. This is entirely the opposite - you cannot be agreeing to charges you had not even seen. It is a textbook violation of consumer-rights. They compelled me to pay prior to me being authorized to sign the invoice. This is among the greyest things that a firm can engage in. They insisted on my cash upfront and then only after they took my cash did they push a signature page at me. There is no legitimate business that carries out in this manner. They knowingly did not allow me to check or accept the charges before they were paid. They were not ready to give me an opportunity to challenge the charges and threatened to retain my car until I paid. This amounts to force and illegal seizure of property. Their invoice is even intentionally bewildered. They show an uncertain range of 0-15 miles rather than the real 12km, which enables them to inflate the bill with false mileages. This is not an accidental act of obfuscation. Zero professionalism. Zero transparency. Zero integrity. All that concerns this experience is aligned to the very activity of behavior that is emphasized in the recent studies on towing fraud in Alberta. The high charges, the denying of documentation, the eviction of payment prior to signing, it is all indicative of a company that does not have an accountable approach to its operations. I have already lodged official complaints with Service Alberta and Edmonton Police and I highly recommend doing the same to any other person who transacts with Cliffs Towing. Their whole business is predatory towing in books. Do not trust this company. Document everything. And when your car happens here be ready to fight. read more

Cliffs towed car to clean apartment underground parking. Owner of car had passed away unknown in her apartment a few days before towing and when body was found by police, car had already been towed. We went to Cliffs with death certificate and they refused to release vehicle unless we paid a huge towing fee which went up daily. They were absolutely impossible to deal with and we ended up having to leave the perfectly viable vehicle there as no funds were available to release it. We were all very distressed with our loss and had no energies to continue the fight with Cliffs. They were totally heartless and unsympathetic to us and her 24 year old daughter left motherless. read more

I cannot give Cliff's towing enough stars for the service we received tonight. After being hung up on by a few towing companies, Cliff's came to the rescue. The lady who helped us on the phone was extremely nice and did more than she needed to, to help us out! My friends car was stuck in ice within my parking lot, and they went above and beyond to help us. They were here quick, as we were on his route to his next call, and so he intercepted to help us out. Horrendous customer experience if you have Cliff's patrolling your Condo lot for visitor parking. Good Friday my sister dropped off a Easter gift parked in visitor parking stall directly below my condo unit. She came up stairs to my unit and within 5 minutes the driver had her vehicle lifted on a trolley. I walked out to say my parking pass is in my wife's car in the underground parkade. After much arguing in the parking lot I paid my sisters (who is a senior) 'drop fee' of $165.00 dollars on debit. Total scam as the driver said you have no parking pass so your responsible for the Drop Fee in a privately owned parking lot that I as a Condo owner pay taxes for. My Breaks went out in my vehicle, I phone a local towing company in the town I live in who basically couldn't give me the time of day. I decided to Phone Cliffs towing, right away the dispatcher was there to help on a snowy icy day. With in ten mins she was making arrangement to recue my vehicle. Within a half Hour to 45 mins my truck was loaded on a deck and rolling to my home. The young Lady operating the rig was courteous and very professional. Unfortunately I cant remember the names of the dispatcher or driver, but a huge shout out to Driver 495 unit 496. The Dispatcher took the time to give me a follow up call to make sure everthing went allright. I will not hesitate to call Cliffs again if I'm in need of assistance. read more

I was told when I booked that I'd be waiting 1-2 hours for a tow, which was fine since my only requirement was to get to the service garage within 6 hours. When they didn't show after 4 hours I called for an update and was told they were en route. An hour after that I called again, was again told they were en route. It was only when I pushed that I was told they'd made a mistake and the tow truck had never been dispatched. By that time I'd missed my chance to get my vehicle to the garage, so I'll be without my vehicle over the long weekend, and there was no attempt to make things right. I cancelled and booked with someone else for a different day. Seriously glad I wasn't standing by the side of the road in 40 degree heat waiting for a tow truck. I've used them in the past for a boost and they were slow then too but friendly and efficient once they finally showed up. read more

Absolutely terrible experience. Booked an appointment to pick up my car. Took an uber, arrived at Cliff's to a locked door with a sign saying nobody in office, call this number. Called number, they said sorry, the driver has been called out. So I said ok, what do I do now? She said well you have to wait until he gets back. I asked when that would be. She said maybe half hour. It's freezing out, office is locked, nowhere to wait, and no idea when the driver would actually return Couldn't believe this is actually how they manage a business. So now I have to get another uber to take me to a restaurant to stay warm and wait. Call them in half hour like they said to, they say to just relax and the driver will call me when he returns. I was at the restaurant for 2 more hours and no call. I finally call them and they say he'll be back at the office in 10 mins. I get another uber (third time) to get me back to hopefully an open office. He was actually there when i arrived, but said I was lucky to show up at that moment because he got another call to head out. I actually almost missed them again after all that mess and had to pay my lovely $512 bill. I will never use this company again and highly recommend staying away. I have to wonder what a senior citizen, or single mother with kids would do in that situation had their cell phone died or had to wait outside in -30 for 20 mins for a cab, only to go wait somewhere else with no idea when they should get another cab to only maybe retrieve their vehicle. My car was vandalized downtown and un-drivable after a long shift as an ICU nurse. Cliffs towing was amazing. The lady on the phone was extremely empathetic, they rescheduled a non urgent pick up to come help me out. Fast and genuinely cared. They were able to help me out on site and they didn't even charge me. Just wanted me to be safe and get home! Everyone should get paid for their work! My vehicle got towed due to my hangTag app not working...not their fault! But unfortunately I had lost my wallet and was in the midst of renewing my licence when I was towed. I produced a PDF copy which I've used at work, and to attain a drivers abstract (perfectly acceptable for the registries office) but they wouldn't accept it. Don't trust this company. Cliff's towing towed my AWD vehicle, damaged it and then denied it ever happened. Firstly they do not follow the codes of practice for towing vehicles. To avoid damaging the differential while turning corners all AWD cars should be placed on a flat deck. The company failed to place my vehicle on a flat deck. Then after the towing I noticed there was fresh damage on the underside by the wheel well. I mentioned the damages to the towing clerk and Jeff Johnson and was told it had happened during the tow (due to the fresh white transfer while wiping the scrape). I was advised to get a quote and send it over. After sending a quote I was told to speak with Bryan Phelan. Then Bryan and Jeff ignored my phone calls and emails for over a month. Finally after mentioning civil action, Bryan finally contacts me and claims the damage did not occur during towing. I was told to 'prove' the damage in court even though 2 employees of Cliff's towing confirmed the damage had occurred during towing. Do not use this towing company!! They are not reputable and will slander their own employees in order to make a quick buck. read more

Operator Travis was a few minutes early, loaded and strapped down tool boxes in an expert manner, transported boxes without incident, unloaded safely. Very satisfied with Travis's expertise. As if you aren't already upset enough that you have been towed. I get to the lot to pay fees and am met by the most ignorant rude person ever. I understood I parked in a wrong spot but when asked for an explanation of fees, the lady searched for any excuse to avoid answering questions properly. "You can pay the fees or go outside and we can do this another way" She tried to charge me for 2 days when the car had been there for 13 hours. Sarcasm and condescension are tools only to be used for comedic purposes. When you are about to tow someone's car, even if you have the legal grounds to do it, just be professional. Telling me to "take a breath" and "maybe quit smoking" are two things that do not help a bit. Especially when the end game is $125 out of pocket. I learned an infuriating fact that when your car is 'tagged' by the City, they don't put a specific call out to be towed, but that they give jurisdiction to private companies like Cliff's to "hunt" (the word used on the phone by the Cliff's receptionist) cars with tickets on them. My wife fell asleep after a hard night at work and left her car in the fire lane in front of our Condo....The Escape AWD car is now in my garage with a severely damaged differential and my wife had to walk to her work this morning in this sever cold. I phoned them and... recorded the call... to pick up my wifes car and was told that it was $185.43 and there would be no further charges if picked up before 5pm. I arrived 1/2 hour later and they overcharged me $42.00 just for the doing of it and placed a charge on my bill for dollies that were never used. They were retained on my security video just hauling my wife's car off like so much scrap. No dollies were used despite being charged for and my wife's car was severely damaged.It seems there are a tremendous allotment of abuses by this nasty company denoted on Facebook as far back as the 70's that people have been slapped with...including blatant overcharging. Cliff's Towing was great. The driver/operator was courteous and friendly. My vehicle was loaded and unloaded with care and efficiency. The driver absolutely followed protocol for unloading and loading the vehicle. It took less than three hours from the initial time the truck was dispatched to when I got home -- that time includes the one hour commute to my home. This was all during rush hour traffic from downtown Edmonton to a community outside Edmonton. It was an all around good, easy, professional, efficient job well done. Kudos! read more

I have used them before and was very happy with the service. Price is the same as other companies. But the last time we needed them it was a several hour screwing over and will never use them again. The problem for them is because of this, we found a better and cheaper company. Cliff's has a contract with the EPS, and they take priority. So if you are up for a tow and the police need a tow, you get bumped over them. Not a big deal and I understand. My issue is that ever few hours we called to ask where the tow truck was, we got the same old song and dance. "It will be about 30 minutes" and this went on for about 4-5 hours. It was brutal. Maybe Uber should open a towing company??? The lady on the phone was very nice and professional but man....just tell your customer you can't do it rather than leaving them hanging there for hours. We called Kingsway towing and they sent a nice flatbed towtruck in about 15 minutes. And it was about $80 cheaper, too. Thanks anyways, Cliff's! Maybe put an extra truck or two on at nights, or just be honest with your customers and tell them you are too busy. read more

I am a landlord and need to have stolen and abandoned vehicles towed quite often. The tow truck driver was quite rude while over the phone, and when he arived on site he got worse. he even when to the extent of demanding my assistance to do his job! He raised his voice talking down to telling to me to put my phone away so I can push the car for him! this was when I was typing out an urgant email to one of my contractors. Well after 2 weeks I called back to find out about the damage to my 2015 sport and to my surprise I got a email back from the safety department saying that the body shop did the damage what a joke cant even own up to there mistake I will never recommend this company to anyone ever just be aware even with pics of before and after never made a difference. if your are going to use these damage makers make sure you follow them and take pics after they drop off your pride and joy. they might be good with big truck moves but don't get them for your personal ride they don't care just want the cash I will make sure to tell all I see about this low grade company....( This is what I got today after waiting two weeks)..We've reviewed the information regarding your Dodge 1500. Our operator determined that it was unsafe to wheel lift the rear end of your vehicle, as the axel was damaged and shifted over. So, he used frame forks. Frame forks are placed to the far drivers side and far passenger side of the vehicle. A floor jack was used to lift the back end, so the forks could be properly set into place. At no point would there have been any form of contact to the centre portion of your rear bumper. Your vehicle was dropped off near the west fence within the Herbers compound and moved into a stall. One of the Herbers staff members assisted our operator during the unloading of your vehicle, without incident. Additionally, our unit that was used to move your vehicle to Herbers is white and burgundy. There is no evident transfer of paint. At some point, your vehicle would have been moved again (not by Cliff's Towing Ltd.) in order for the repairs to take place. The pictures that show the damage to your vehicle were taken after the vehicle was moved by a third party. We cannot accept responsibility for damage to a vehicle that was lot moved by someone else. For these reasons, the claim has been denied. don't use this company if you know what's good for you. i got my car towed and when i went to pick up my vehicle they made me sign the release forms before i could go inspect my car. low and behold, i get there and my mirror is broken. called the girl and she stated that because it was just her and her coworker i would have to come back tomorrow and talk to the "operations manager". i knew this was going to be an issue the minute Maris would not answer or return my phonecalls. I finally get a hold of him and asks why i didn't report the issue sooner. He said that all the papers claims to have no damage and that i was pretty much SOL. He told me to call him the next day to arrange a visit so he can see what he can do. I had my car towed by Cliffs Towing. When my car was in there possession it was damaged! The car was towed through the streets of Edmonton recklessly without care and attention. I brought the damage on my car to the attention of Safety Supervisor Mr. Johnson who told me to come down to the office so he can take pictures. I was greeted by Mr. Johnson with complete rudeness arrogance and a lack of professionalism that upset me. When he looked at my rim that was scratched up all the way around in a circular formation... he said "it's curb damage". He did not take any responsibility for this then handed me a business card and walked away. He did not want to hear anything I had to say and ignored my questions I had. I found this behavior to be very poor business practice on his part. There's no way I can even scratch my rim against the curb when it's on the drivers front side of the car! In Canada we drive on the side of the road where the curb is on the passengers side of the car, not the drivers side! It's a rear wheel drive car that Cliffs towing hoisted up from the tail end of the car. My car has always remained in impeccable condition until I got it back from Cliffs Towing... I bought this car 1 month ago which has been driven a few times with great care and not 1 rim had a scratch on it to start! I would give this company a pass! read more

This company is complete bullshit. My friend stopped in at my house for less than 5 minutes and parked on the street where there is one unreadable sign that says no parking without a pass. They towed my friends running car as she runs out crying they don't stop. As understandable as this situation this may be and we were totally prepared to pay whatever fee there is they would not let us pick up the vehicle until 8 am the next day. I personally think it's such horseshit that they can tow 24 hours but can't pick up when I know from experience when picking up a car they push a button and let you go and get your own car. If they can tow at any time people should be able to pick up the car at any time, especially when someone works at 8am and can't exactly get to work without their vehicle.
