I've been camping here every late September, for a few years, and it's truly a gem of the Wisconsin system. Pinewoods has 101 campsites, flush toilets, vault toilets and showers. There are no electrical sites at this campground. A playground is next to the shower building. And news to me- This campground offers a designated area for those who want to enjoy the peace and quiet that nature has to offer. Loop 1 is a 24-hour quiet zone, meaning no pets, radios or mechanical device noises are allowed, ensuring a peaceful visit. The facilities are clean, there are a few large group sites, and a few hike-in sites. While my small crew prefers the hike-in sites, honestly the regular sites have ample privacy, nestled between the tall pines of this area. There is great hiking nearby, whether it's the Scuppernong trails or the Ice Age Trail, horse riding, Ottawa Lake, and some of the best mountain biking in the State (Emma Carlin and John Muir Trails). Not far from Milwaukee, Madison, Chicago, Pinewoods Campground is a great getaway!

When I was in town, my sister and I walked the beach searching for beach glass. Not only was it relaxing, we met several friendly people enjoying the last moments of summer. Always clean and cared for, Simmons Island is a destination for locals and visitors alike. They have built a great little play area for kids and have recently added extra parking. I love Kenosha's lakefront and only wish I had appreciated it more as a kid growing up here. Now that I live in Chicago, we share the same Great Lake. But Kenosha's beach and park are so much more accessible. I visit Simmons Island every time I'm in Kenosha no matter the season.

You're by the water, surrounded by butterfly gardens essentially. The flowers along the path are so pretty. The sidewalk and dedicated trails can keep you walking way father than you care to walk back. Perfect to get a couple of cute pictures. The beach you may end up walking past is really a resting pad for geese,ducks and seagulls so don't get any bright ideas. And if you're into collecting skeletons you may come across some crawfish which I saw a couple kids eagerly on the hunt for.

Prices…read moredid increase this year now is a $30 per car which I think is pretty stiff as I don't see that they added any new lighting areas or a new section to go through. There is store where they offer souvenirs and like some snacks to buy and hot chocolate and things like that could use a little bit of improvement. Overall, for first timers, this will be a great impression. This year I did not see the overextended lines like in years prior. It could be due to the price increase. Maybe they should offer some coupons or discounts on the newspaper or over the website to increase the flow coming into the end of 2026 other than that it's always a good memory to have.

Our family recently stayed at Yogi Bear Jellystone, and unfortunately what should have been a fun…read morevacation turned into a stressful and frustrating experience. Shortly after our stay, a member of our family developed numerous bites. I am attaching photos taken the day we left the campground, along with updated photos taken several days later showing that the bites continued to worsen. After contacting management, they sent us an Ecolab inspection report stating that no evidence of bed bugs was found. We went and saw a doctor. As a paying customer, you expect some sort of compassion, open communication, and a willingness to investigate further--not a report that, from my perspective, did not reflect what we experienced. Given that this occurred during the busiest part of the camping season, it was hard not to feel like protecting cabin rentals and the campground's reputation was given a higher priority than addressing a guest's health and safety concerns. Whether that was the intention or not, that is certainly how the situation came across to us. I encourage anyone considering a stay to review the attached photos. Everyone can draw their own conclusions, but our family's experience left us feeling extremely disappointed. We understand that no business is perfect, but how a company responds when something goes wrong says everything.

This is a terrific place and a well kept secret. You are right on Lake Michigan, where the breeze keeps it cool. Or cooler. It was 62 degrees last night, and people were running their heaters. I am sorry we have to go. The RV office is exceptionally smart and friendly, and they contacted us when we were going to be late. A nice touch of course. Except the gate personnel had no idea where the RV campground is, lol. If you can get on military installations, this is a solid place to camp ... if you're prepared for dry camping.
