Permanent damage, arrogant and dismissive response, ethically questionable…read more I had blephorplasty with Dr. Gray, which he caused permanent damage: medial canthal webbing, which sadly cannot be fixed. Leaving an unattractive, scowling, older look. I have since found out this is easily preventable and is due to how the surgeon closes sutures (sewing mistake to simplify). Again, easily avoidable, but once completed it's permanent. I've seen other surgeons since who have shared there's nothing that can be done to fix it. Dr. Gray's response to this was at first dismissive and audacious: he actually tried to say he didn't do it, then admitted as yes, he did cause permanent damage and then told me to 'get over it'. He went so far as to say I was too upset, the man charged me thousands of dollars after over promising and under delivering, to the extent I feel he was grossly misleading. His approach may seem calm and experienced however he's very cold and uncaring after making mistakes, and will patronize and blame you afterwards. Of course he won't return your money, he has no problem causing disfigurement to your face and then taking you for thousands, but hey, "yes it happened, so get over it" is what he'll say as he shrugs it off. He doesn't lose sleep over this or follow up with you. You are left feeling taken advantage of, misled, taken for thousands of dollars, and have to see permanent damage in the mirror every day for the rest of your life. But he doesn't have to deal with it, and he doesn't. I think the basic tenets in plastic surgery are to make you younger and hide the scars. One of the other things he did, was to go against both industry convention and my wishes as a patient and place the incision lines inches above the crease of the eyelid. Absolutely bizarre, and 100% against what I specifically clarified with him prior. He later told me (post surgery) he liked the look of a higher scar as it may give you a reddish colouring later that he prefers, thinks it looks like permanent makeup. Yet, he not only didn't discuss this with me prior, he did the opposite, when I asked if the scar would be in the crease (and hidden) he told me yes, then went against industry standard, my wishes and our agreement, and did the opposite. I was and am still horrified. It's not a nice polished look, it caused very visible high scaring that has an older, vein/varicose texture which is wrinkly and older in appearance. He not only caused permanent damage with the medial webbing, but strange and unusual scar lines inches above the eye fold. So overall I look older, and less attractive after his surgery. Lastly, my medical information was later shared against my wishes, without my consent, which made me feel violated, wronged, and disrespected...did I mention violated? Worth another mention. One of the bonuses of having the surgery done by him, is I knew no one in the city. Had just moved here, even my ride home was from a family member visiting from out of province. Yet my health information was shared with people I've never met. Patient confidently should be sacrosanct but I was left feeling violated and hurt.

During the consultation, there was very little engagement ( no follow up questions asked ) or effort to understand my goals. A consultation should feel welcoming, attentive, and informative especially for new client but this experience lacked those qualities. I left feeling undervalued. It's such a bummer because the place looks professional. Too bad.

Just as we were about to board a ferry at 11am, I had a call from his office to let me know he's in the OR and might be running late so my appointment had to be moved to 5pm instead which I was fine with. Few minutes later just as we boarded the ferry , I got another call telling me he has to cancel my appointment. While I understand things happen, especially in a medical field, I felt he could have still fit me in whenever he was able to today as i was only coming in from mainland for this appointment. It is unfortunate how little regard was given for our wasted time and $250 for the ferry , not to mention having to wait another couple of months to see a different doctor locally for a consult.

The procedure included an upper blepharoplasty, platysmaplasty of my neck, and SMAS facelift. In addition, I underwent an CO2 laser treatment. Prior to these procedures. I had a meeting with another plastic surgeon in Del mar, California. His estimate was startling and well beyond what I could afford. I then went to see Dr. Lichtenberger and he explained to me that I didn't need to undergo unnecessary procedures to get what I was looking for. Instead, he felt that I could attain a natural look and that's exactly what he did for me at a reasonable cost. The office staff at Life Aesthetic Center, including Erin, Debbie and Dana, made me feel so much at home and so comfortable while undergoing the initial consultation, the preoperative appointment and finally the procedure and follow-up appointments, putting me at ease with lots of great information. Dr. Lichtenberger is one of the most sincere, patient and truly caring people I have ever met. He is an outstanding listener, and I never felt like I was asking a stupid question. Despite my nervousness prior to the procedures, he said that was normal and on the day of my procedures, he put me at ease the entire time. His surgical staff was also top-notch and I am grateful to them as well. We here in Bellingham are extremely fortunate to have Dr. Lichtenberger in our community. I have had a horrible infection that would not go away. Neither my primary care nor urgent care doctors could treat it, so it was vital I get in to a dermatologist. Apparently, there is a major shortage of dermatologists in the area, because I could not get an appointment with anyone in a 50 mile radius, despite calling at least 20 clinics and doctors. I was near tears when I called the Peninsula Skin clinic with Dr. Rasmussen, and found out that they, like everyone else, have a long waiting list. Melissa at the front desk must have heard the desperation in my voice, because she worked with me to find a solution and a time to come in. After my calling all those clinics, she was the first person who showed some concern and empathy. This caring attitude was present with all the staff during my appointment. The person who actually treated me was a Physician's assistant, Bill Bies. He understood that I needed prompt treatment to address all possible issues, along with taking samples and setting up a follow up appointment. After struggling with this infection for so long, it was a relief to find competent and professional care combined with empathy.

Reviewing the medical literature I found out there was a minimally invasive procedure for the treatment of my condition. After multiple phone calls to clinics offering dermal fillers (mostly for cosmetic procedures) I found the practice of Dr. Anna Sylwestrowicz, MD . The office was very accommodating with my unique inquiry and agreed to meet with me just to discuss my diagnosis and treatment plan. One of the most vital requirements for a good medical outcome is a solid 'Doctor-Patient' relationship that starts with an open and frank discussion. I found my conversation with Dr. Anna (as she prefers to be addressed) to be all a patient could ask for. We jointly came up with a plan, discussed the various dermal fillers on the market, her experience with their use, possible outcomes and hoped for outcomes. I agreed to the procedure. Three weeks before the start of my hike, Dr. Anna injected my left heel pad with dermal filler. The procedure itself was tolerable and I walk out of the office with an order to 'take it easy' with my walking. For the first 5-6 days I was sore at the injection site but that was too be expected. After a week, I restarted my daily dog walks (much to the pleasure of our Doodle) and gradually increased my mileage. On April 23rd, 2026 I found my self hiking south on the Appalachian Trail from the small village of Damascus, Virginia. I was planned on keeping my daily mileage under 20km while carrying 15kg of pack. At that point, my heel was pain free. I hiked for a month pain free. I ended this section of the Trail in the very tourist town of Gatlinburg, Tennessee. This was a distance of 400km-pain free! Considering the pain, I was in prior to the injection of dermal filler this was a remarkable medical outcome. I am very, very pleased. As for the future, there are 333km left for me to complete.
