Huge shoutout to Ace Hardware in Clinton Hill. Earlier in the day we went to Home Depot for plexiglass and were told we'd have to cut it ourselves. We tried -- it didn't work. We called Ace and they said they could cut it. Javier helped us and was fantastic. He took his time, carefully measured everything, salvaged the pieces we already bought, and cut new ones so we could keep our project going. He was patient, knowledgeable, and incredibly helpful. This local hardware store is well stocked and provides terrific service. It is a huge asset to the neighborhood and should be supported.

Have almost everything you'll need for small jobs around the house. The staff is always helpful as well, letting you know what you need to get a job done, or if they don't have what you should buy and don't push something that doesn't work. As a homeowner I appreciate this. I will say some things are a bit pricier than you could source elsewhere, for example laundry detergent; you could walk to the pharmacy next door and pay 30% less. read more

There's 3 guys i observed working at the register. They are borderline friendly. I copied keys here for my mom and that's how i ended up frequenting this hardware store. I also found bleach spray here two months ago. Every time I go back it's gone. But they have bleach foam for the bathroom tiles and sink. read more

Incredibly well-stocked and inexpensive hardware store in the neighborhood. Owned by a father and sons, this is truly a local and family-run business. They treat you like family and know me by name. I have bought everything from scissors to screws to paint to a humidifier. Getting a key made is $1.50. They have a surprising number of household supplies too, all priced lower than anywhere else I've seen. And, if the above is not reason enough to go, the owner is a big dog-lover and has a collection for the ASPCA, which he donates monthly. They always let me bring my rescue-pit in while I shop. My experience her was better than home depot, the staff was very helpful and friendly. I liked the fact that the store was organized well. I purchased paint and brushes at the last minute. Needed two keys copied. Waiting atleast 15 minutes before anybody even acknowledged me. Waited another 20 minutes for them to tell me that one of the keys they couldn't make that I would have to come back in 3 hours when the man that knew how to make it came in to the store. Called them this morning to see if the man would be in to work and they said they would call me back in 3 hours to let me know if he would be in. Of course they neglect to call me back. I called which is when they decide to find out if the man would be in or not. Only to tell me that he wouldn't be. They are very dismissive and uninterested in helping out. So, what convinced me to review this place was because one of the employees were very very NICE. It was my 3rd time getting plexiglass and this one employee who gave more attention to his cellphone than his job went off to cut my order of plexiglass. I arrived home to discover that he did a horrible job. The lines are not straight. the measurements are way off. I come back the next morning to ask them to cut it again. A nice man named Carlos works on the other side of the room and he seemed to be in charge of the cutting or mixing of paints. He looked at my plexiglass and was very patient and polite with me. A few minutes later, he came back with it all nicely cut and clean. He realized that the guy yesterday did such a horrible job and cut some NEW plexiglass and did a perfect job with it, without charge. You just saved this students life, Carlos. Hit up this place several times last summer when my apartment was falling apart. For NYC, the service is decent, but don't expect anyone to offer much help. Small shop and not everything one might need but a pretty decent selection. They also copy keys for very very cheap. read more

The place has everything you need. Prices are not cheap, but I guess it's to be expected in the area. Customer service is also ok. Make sure you check fine printing on the check-in offer tho. Reason I'm not giving it full stars is because the people at the cashier always seem kind of bored and annoyed when you ask them something. read more

Disturbing and unethical. A woman was hit on the head by another customer they were assisting with a large plank of wood, It was unclear if she had a concussion, she did not know what she was hit with and wobbling around. The men did not want to call EMS; they assisting by giving her a plastic bucket to sit on and getting her some water. I asked the woman if she wanted EMS or police (she said- yes), They asked me to leave. I told them to screw themselves, more concerned about their store than a person in their store being accidentally injurred- wacked on the head with a plank of wood. If it was their mother or daughter they would have reacted very differently. They are generally helpful and quick- but this was Not right; I hope EMS came and she had a report filed so that if she sustains longterm health issues they is a paper trail. Very disappointed with these guys running the store. read more

Wonderful store! A much cheaper and less overwhelming experience than Home Depot. They obviously don't have as much as Home Depot or even other larger local hardware stores, but they sure do pack a bunch of stuff in this little store. They have a very small and limited gardening section in the back, but I only saw pots and things, not any plants. They do have a few small plants in the store, but I'd still recommend going to Home Depot or another gardening shop for those. They have everything from screws and nails to paint and lightbulbs. They have some lumber as well but not a huge variety. read more

This place is great. I usually go to Sisters because it's closer, but these guys have a better selection (it's true, they have an awesome array of spray paint and also tape, perhaps catering to the Pratt kids) and is more organized. I am generally asked multiple times if i need help, but not in an annoying/overbearing way. Today I bought some masonry screws and a few minutes after i picked them up (and without prompting) a guy brought me a drill bit that i should get to make things easier. But not in a "we want to sell you more stuff" or a "stupid girl must need help" kinda way, just being helpful. They have a garden section in the back, which is a plus, though there aren't too many plants so it's nothing too special. Everyone who works here seems pretty nice, including checkout people. read more

These guys are great! If they don't have what you need (which is rare), then they will help you find somewhere that will have it, or order it for you even. I don't know what to say really...I have trouble getting all stoked about hardware stores. I'd definitely hit this place up any day before I go to Home Depot. I would suggest anyone around this neighborhood to avoid this store as the owner was unhelpful and proposed a much higher price than other similar hardware stores in the area. This place almost always has what I need. Wide selection, but most importantly, good hours. Every other hardware store seems to be closed when I need it, but these guys actually seem to stay open at sensible times. They seem to have a pretty sizeable paint selection (perhaps due to PRatt being nearby) and obviously do key copying and whatnot as well. read more

I was looking to purchase a lock for my door. So Me not having any clue on what to purchase I ask the Locksmith name Frank. After viewing the many options I chose the Mult Lock Cylinder , Frank explain to me how copies of keys can only be made with the card, I also chose to have Frank Install it for me which cost $95 . It sounded pricey but it well worth it . How could I put a price on my security? Nice to have a neighborhood hardware store. P.S. Thanks for the tip Alex about saving Mult Lock Key Code on my cell phone. Came in handy when I got locked out. read more

I write a lot of 5 star reviews, but that's basically because I only review the things I like. Clinton Hill hardware is fantastic. Maybe it's because I'm on the block and its so convenient, but I have a car, and there's a giant Home Depot only 2 min away, so there's no real reason to go here, but I find that they usually have all the little things I need, so there's no need to go further. Prices are good. Call ahead if you want to see if they stock something. The people are nice, they make keys, they're a good little shop. Go to Home Depot if you need something exotic or huge. read more

The selections pretty good for a smaller shop they even carry things that I haven't been able to find at Home Depot or Lowe's. They carry all the Benjamin Moore paint lines and all sorts of other nifty stuff. read more

I am assuming that because of the economy they had to down grade. They use to be located across the street where Bank of America and Maggie Browns in now located. They were huge and could fit a greater need in the community. I use to go there all the time to get things fixed of keys copied but now they just seem to be a thing of my past unless its summer and I need to purchase a new air filter for my AC. read more

If I could leave this place no stars I would. I went in and tried to ask simple questions about what they had in stock. They talked in front of me while I wasn't there and basically argued over who should help me without actually doing anything. At the end of all the nonsense, they didn't even have what I wanted. I went to have a key made and one of the employees kept talking to the new guy who was making the key and I asked him not to distract the guy. I'm there with a female friend and the employee starts mouthing off at me and I explained I just didn't want the guy to make a mistake, and he kept after me, which I found annoying and within a minute he's using the F-word in front of my friend and suggesting we go outside to discuss it. I asked to see the Manager and he says HE is the owner and he keeps on with the F-word and I say "It's a hell of a way to run a business" and leave. With a key that didn't work. read more

We are fortunate to have a small neighborhood hardware store within walking distance of our apt in Clinton Hill. And, I am glad that it is a family owned and operated business. The folks working here definitely behave like family members at times, which can be unprofessional at times, but that's okay with me, as who doesn't have a little dysfunction in their family. I always get waited on quickly and courteously when I shop here and they usually have what I need. Sometimes their stock of items can be a bit low and it can take a while for items to be restocked. read more

It's not everyday I review a hardware story, but I have to give props to this place. While small, the stock virtually everything. Benjamin Moore paints, lumber, gardening supplies, and a better light bulb selection at better prices than the big stores. While they have one or two grumpy people on staff, you can actually find someone and they can answer your question. Case in point: recently, one of their staff walked me through light bulb options and he knew which ones last longest, are brightest, consume the least energy, give off a warm color, etc. And if you don't see something, ask! I also got wooden sticks for my string bean plants in our garden to latch onto. Recommended! read more
