No wonder the many event staff attendants along the beginning of the course were cheering so…read moremuch.....the last mile of the 5K course was pretty much consistent gentle paved rolling hills ahaha phewww. First-time participant at this event and, yeah, as someone who's used to mostly flat courses this one was a little challenging for me lol. Still fun though. The 5K course has a couple of glimpses of the Carquinez Strait, but most of the course is deep in the neighborhood. Other courses at the event are the 10K, Kids 1 Mile, and Kids Mini Run (200 meter dash). In terms of swag, I received a participant medal, a T-shirt, and a tote bag. Upon finish there were tables of fruit, water bottles, and Bodyarmor sports drinks. Nitpicks? Couldn't really hear the announcer at all lol his station was far behind the start line and his voice was pretty muffled because of that. *Highly* recommend arriving early for parking!! I arrived at around 7:15 AM and the closest available street parking spot was a few blocks away from the starting area.

It kicked off on…read moreSaturday with a fundraiser for the Rancho and their good works featuring a wonderful reception on the lawn of Dominican University followed by a screening of the "The Smell of Money". It was a wonderful evening of vegan food and fun with an opportunity to hear from a Kyoto Schindler and the filmmakers. Day two of the festival took place at the Marin Civic Center Auditorium. It featured, films, panels and amazing vegan food on the cutting (not bleeding) edge of the meatless food revolution. We really enjoyed the Nowadays chik'n nuggets made with pea protein and only six other ingredients. These were, by far, the best nuggets I've ever had. They were sooooo juicy! A few other products really grabbed our attention including Melibio's lab-created bee-free honey. There is essentially no way to tell it from bee honey. Hooray bacon was the best bacon substitute that I have tried to date. It was crispy and nicely bacon-y. Finally Kube' coconut based ice cream was incredibly creamy and satisfying. The key lime flavor really popped. We enjoyed the films, panels and shorts. See you there next year.

The 12 hour long party aka the Dirty Dozen. If you're a fan of being active and sharing time…read morewalking or running, this may be the event for you. I signed up for the 6 hour version of the dirty dozen which is a 12 hour long endurance event hosted by Brazen race series. Participants are invited to create teams of up to 3 in visuals to take on completing laps on the designated course; teams with the most laps completed within the given time limit, are awarded prizes in their ranking order, the typical 1st through 3rd place. The event is well organized, well marked and well supported for the full duration, complete with plenty of food, music at the main exchange point/ staging area and a delicious meal at the end of your specific race. Participants bring in pop up tents, chairs and whatever you may need to feel comfortable while you wait for your turn as most participants are a part of a team and complete the 3, 6 or 12 hour event relay style. My friends and I signed up as we have friends in our running group who shared how much fun they had when they participated and they were not wrong. We were well supported with fuel for the course as they served a variety of traditional products like energy gels, energy chews and bananas but they also offered real food like pancakes in the morning, peanut butter and jelly sandwich, fig newtons, salty treats oranges, water, energy drinks...the options seemed endless. When we were done with our six hour race, a beautiful catered lunch was served which included bbq meats, salads, cornbread Mac n cheese, lots of options of drinks, as well as chips, desserts including it's it ice cream sandwiches. The spread was the best I've ever seen as I'm used to running marathons and only being offered chocolate milk, a banana and maybe if we are lucky, an additional sponsor offer additional samples of products they want to promote to runners . This was amazing! The course was beautiful as it took you through some beautiful trails in a eucalyptus grove as well as waterfront views . When we were done, we were already talking about next year's plan. We are hooked and look forward to future events.

We went to compete, volunteer, and cheer in 2011. Last year was just competing and cheering. I'd…read moresay we have a pretty good idea of how this triathlon holds up to others and it's terrific. Things of note to racers: - The race talk is important. - Pay attention when they tell you about the currents. They're not kidding! - There's a bagpiper at the start of the race (LOVE!). - They sang the national anthem. - There's carpeting leading in and out of the water so that racers don't hurt their feet on stones. - Some parts of the course are confusing. The bike and run involve a few loops and are sometimes biking/running along side one another. It's not always clear which way bikes should go and which way runners should go. - Both the bike and run start and end near a challenging hill. Things to note for volunteers: - Although there's a sign-up online, it's not necessary to do so. You can volunteer where needed the day of the race. - The volunteers are SUPPOSED to have specific time slots, but I witnessed several volunteers who were never given relief and felt compelled to stay MUCH longer than they agreed. Things to note for people cheering: - Be careful not to walk on the course. There are many places where it seems okay to stand or walk where it's not. - Since everything starts and ends close to the transition area, it's convenient to set up camp in a single location and cheer on your racers. - You should bring snacks and drinks as there isn't a whole lot available at the race. Not to say that there's nothing. Just not much. - Cell phone reception is spotty. We had three different carriers between us and none of us had a consistent signal. There were times when we didn't have signal at all.

I love butter. I love eggs. And now I love the Petaluma Butter & Egg Days Parade and Festival, even…read morethough ironically I didn't really find butter or eggs at the event I attended this past weekend... unless you count egg-themed merchandise from vendor booths. There were a lot of chickens and cows though, both humans dressed in goofy attire/headgear and actual live animals. Yes, they offered pony rides, a petting zoo with farm animals charming visitors (especially a giant tortoise and lots of adorable bunnies), and an opportunity to interact with baby goats, calves, and more. There was plenty to see and do, including a cow chip throwing contest, cutest little chick contest, and two sets of live music entertainment on stage with a bit of audience seating available. The main parade was the highlight of the festival, with the 2026 theme "America's Birthday - Petaluma Style" celebrated with pride. Chicken and cow-themed floats and costumes engaging attendees, businesses and organizations such as Straus Family Creamery and Petalumans of Yesteryear representing, and awesome music and dance performed by high school marching bands as well as groups like Paquiyollotzin (Ballet Folklorico of Petaluma). And of course, cheerful crowds lining the sidewalks, mesmerized by the amusing characters and lovely artworks on display. To eat, we had a corn dog from Aunt Betty's food stand, a delicious lamb and beef gyro pita from Stockhome, and even got ourselves some jumbo black old fashioned licorice from The Licorice Guy. Clover Sonoma was giving away free samples of premium chocolate and vanilla ice cream all day, which I definitely took advantage of. And since that wasn't enough to satisfy my sweet tooth, I also got more cold and creamy chocolatey goodness from YaYa's Classic Soft Serve. It was a wonderful event altogether, and though I wish they actually had butter and eggs, I absolutely enjoyed the lively atmosphere and diverse offerings. Plus, there was no fee for entry and free street parking not too difficult to find nearby, though city parking garages were also a convenient option (with the 2-hour parking restriction waived for this special event day).

I have to give this trail 5 stars even though we spent less than an hour here. It is Christmas week…read moreand we needed to get our dog out on the trail. The last rain was about a week ago so she was beyond ready. We arrived around 4:00pm, which meant the sun would be setting at 4:45pm. Fine. We carried on anyway and it was totally worth it. The main trail begins on a straight path from the farmhouse. It cuts through an alley of trees and tall grassland, opening to reveal the (now) green rolling hills of Petaluma countryside. For those seeking the stillness of winter or to hear the songs of nature, this is your spot! There wasn't another soul in sight and it was perfect! It was just us and nature. I found myself whispering to my husband so as not to disturb the energy with my voice. We walked until the shade of the sun hit the hills, then turned around. By then it was 4:40pm. A park ranger drove down the main path to ensure there were no other folks on the trail further down. She waved to us and continued on. I would venture to say that the best times to enjoy this trail would be at sunrise or sunset. The colors at sunset were right out of a picture book. 3,400 acres of pastoral scenes of bright green, rolling hills, a river running through and birds singing the songs of winter. I mean it was almost out of a movie! And I live here. Bless. Because we arrived so late, I did not notice a ranger station or any park staff on site. Surely there are but we didn't see. There is an area near parking that has a map of the trails as well as general information on the park. The park is open for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding and is open from 7am to sunset. The road returning to Lakeville from the park, Canon Lane, is also not to be overlooked. Again, right out of the picture book, white fenced, sprawling ranch property, the Petaluma river reflecting the golden hue of the sun. It should be taken into account that this isn't a massive or well-known park so the parking area is good for under 50 cars. Probably more like 15-20 but I could have missed another area. Definitely a spot I plan to frequent more.

Came here, with friends, for the first time today, unexpectedly, as we intended to hit up Mt…read more Tamalpais, but this was a WONDERFULLY GREAT place to hike! Not too steep of trails, gorgeous scenery, roaming cattle, sunny and cool, crisp, breezes. Not heavily populated by trail seekers so I was happy to not see many people! There was ample parking, as well as quite a few handicapped spaces. Too, plenty of restrooms and little portable hand washing stations. We also saw a few equestrians loading there horses into a trailer as we saw numerous horseshoe prints along the trails. Although this day wasn't great, due to the horrific news of the loss of Kobe, and his daughter, visiting this Regional Park was an unexpected treat.

I'd really like to get some exercise running on the track at Bailey Field, but it's not available…read morefor public use. I find this frustrating as it is a nice running surface and conveniently located. Back in 2014, Santa Rosa Junior College's President Frank Chong sold voters on Measure H, entailing $400M+ in property tax assessments (this is on top of the numerous other bonds we're all still paying on going back over 20 years). Measure H costs me personally over $400/year in added property taxes, so I had been hoping to utilize some of the facilities I help pay for. This was not to be the case. The track at Bailey Field has been locked shut to use by the taxpayers who funded it. Is this even legal? In the past, SRJC's track and field has been open to local citizens to use, which seems fair considering it's their tax dollars that paid for its construction and ongoing maintenance. That it is now off-limits to those who were compelled to pay for it seems improprietous. The administration should determine hours throughout the week that Bailey Field is open for public use. This should be taken up with the Board of Trustees at a public hearing. For me, the takeaway is to vote against any future bond measures put forward by Santa Rosa Junior College.

They also have a ton of volunteers who helped them out. They put on about 20 races per year. If you do every single one of them you win a special place called "streaker." Also, if you can run a 10K faster in minutes than your age, you get a special mention, as "ageless wonder." Now, if they could only make my legs go faster.
