I cannot express how wonderful everyone was. They made me feel like a princess. They were so polite, so attentive, made me wish I could have stayed longer. Clontarf castle is located in clontarf just about 10mins from Dublin City Centre on the Bus.The hotel is the most amazing hotel iv ever been in in my whole life . the staff are so outgoing,the food is gorgeous and the rooms are fantastic I have stayed there three times now in the executive suites for different occasions with my ex boyfriend and every time was fantastic!Great place to just get away from it all! read more

I enjoyed my stay here during my trip to Ireland this year. The castle hotel is close to the Dublin city airport, so my boyfriend and I picked it for the last night of our trip. The decor is fairly modern for the true castle feel, but it's still very unique and beautiful! The inclusive full breakfast was delicious. The hotel ground is beautiful. This was booked by our tour service. When we pulled up, we were stunned at its beauty and combination of the castle and modern structure. The room was a bit small, but was comfortable and stunning. I threw my aunt a beautiful bridal shower here and it was fantastic! The service was impeccable and we had the most special day in this beautiful castle. The manager was so kind and helpful to all 30 ladies attending the delicious and unique afternoon tea. The food was delicious and plentiful, the ambience perfect and they allowed us to reserve a space for ourselves in the lounge so we could partake in fun bridal games. I will definitely plan another event at Clontarf Castle, it was a fantastic day out and I highly recommend for all groups large or small! read more

This is really a wonderful hotel. The website photos do not do it justice. The concierage was very helpful in trying to track our lost luggage and advising where we could find replacement clothing. The hotel runs a bus into the city at 9:00 AM each day. Public busses are available a short walk from the hotel for E1.60 one way in contrast to E30 for a taxi. We ate a meal in the pub which provided both traditional Irish and more flavorful dishes. We also ate the full Irish breakfast buffet which was discounted for hotel guests at E10. We enjoyed everything but the eggs which had an off-taste. Major downside is that the weddings create a traffic jam at the front desk and a lot of noise in the rooms. We had a great price when we booked directly with the hotel 4 months ahead on the internet. All of our emails were answered promptly. read more

I hate I even hate to give it 1 star. We had this Hotel booked and paid for for 4 months in advance. We arrive to the hotel and were told we had no reservation they overbooked and they bumped us. They told us they Had tried several times to contact us our private driver then asked the manager for verification to show this , the manager came back and said actually no one contacted us. They were checking people in front of us and behind us. We were told the peoplepeople are with the convention we ask the people around us and they said no they were simply on vacation they were not with the convention.I asked for a refund for the two nights that we had paid for an advance they were not breathing on any they said that was up to me once I got back to the states to settle this with my agent so we had to go to another hotel and pay out of pocket. DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE! Very rude and they lie!!! read more

I was lucky enough to stay in this wonderful place. Between the room, view, history, garden, food, service and staff... I just can't say enough about how much I loved staying there. Do NOT miss the buffet breakfast or the dinners with luscious desserts. Another point is that they are environmentally conscious. Glass and paper instead of plastic... What a surprise. The concierge staff couldn't have been more friendly and did everything they could to make sure my stay was excellent. The wait staff in the dining room couldn't be beat. Only a few minutes walk past lovely scenery to grab the bus into town and you can find your way because of the map and help provided. An evening stroll takes you down to the river. The drinks and atmosphere of the bar were wonderful. There just aren't enough positive adjectives to describe my stay there. My only regrets are that my family couldn't come and my stay was too short. Thank you everyone at Clontarf for making my first trip abroad so incredibly special. read more

I emailed the concierge staff at this hotel to ask about some special accommodations. I live in America and wasn't traveling, but I was asking for help arranging birthday treats for my sister who would be in Dublin at the hotel. Despite the time difference and relatively short notice, the staff got back to me promptly and worked with me to arrange everything I was looking for, insisting they were happy to help out free of charge, despite my offers to compensate them for their trouble. Without my requesting anything further, they also wished my sister a happy birthday and made other upgrades without my even asking. I've never had such a welcoming and pleasant customer service experience, and I wasn't even staying there! Cannot give high enough praise and thanks! read more

Having never been to Ireland a hotel choice was quite important for the success of our vacation. We made the best choice selecting the Clontarf castle for our family. To start the grounds were absolutely lovely. Clontarf was an old castle restored and converted into a hotel, keeping the authentic castle feeling, little caves and old charm mixed with a more modern feel for today's comfort. It was still close to bus stop (a 5 min walk) and the DART (a 20 min walk) so you could easily access other areas near by like Dublin's city center or Malahide. We had two connecting rooms (a king & a double) since we are a larger family and that was the perfect amount of space for all of us. They even had an extra bed made up for our third child which was wonderful and thoughtful. The staff was incredibly warm and helpful. All of them were kind, quick to help, considerate and most of all they always checked on you and made you feel if you ever needed anything they would do what they could to help no matter the request. All the managers in particular were gracious and always around to say hello or check in. They always went above and beyond to ensure we were happy and comfortable. The concierge Vijay was one of the nicest human beings we encountered. To start it was my husband and my daughters birthday- I had emailed him and asked if they could do anything for them upon arrival. I didn't know what to expect but when we entered our room there were two different platters with desserts and happy birthday written on them. The desserts were delicious and the thoughtful touch was perfect for them to walk into. Vijay also helped us decide our tours and events throughout our stay. He was kind and helpful and always available. The only real downside to the castle was the hotel had two restaurants. The knights bar which was more casual and pub like, then the Fahrenheit grill which was their more fancy high end cuisine restaurant. The pub was good and the staff delightful and friendly. Food good. The grill was ok, nothing exciting and the food was so-so for us especially for the price. Service was not the way one would expect for a high end restaurant. Ireland also has a rule about children (under age essentially) in Pubs past 9pm. Understandable, however for a hotel that makes things hard with only two options, one super fancy and one a pub, so my suggestion is they corner off an area that isn't "pub" like so people can enjoy themselves later in the evening. Not a huge deal because they did accommodate us in other areas of the hotel to sit and eat/drink so we were ok, but just the only real downside to our overall experience. It did not merit a star being taken away because again, they were all so kind and did everything they could to make us happy while staying. We would definitely stay there again if we ever visit Ireland again. The hotel was wonderful and well worth the cost. In looking around I actually felt it was very reasonable. We really enjoyed our stay and thank all the staff for making it so memorable. They work hard to please and it shows. Definitely recommend this hotel for anyone traveling to Ireland especially with family. read more

The hotel is very well appointed and rooms clean, though our carpet was pulling up where the seam meets the bathroom. We checked in in the mid afternoon for a very early morning flight the next day. As we left for dinner we received notification the water would be shut off from midnight until 6 am. We went to the front desk to discuss where the staff stated there was reserve water in the tank and we would have plenty of water to shower for a 4 am departure. We asked for a pitcher of water to be placed in our room just in case in order to wash up. When we returned from dinner we checked in with the desk to confirm we would be okay with water in the early morning. Again we were assured the water would be no problem. We woke at 3:30 am to not only no water, but no water delivered as promised. When we went down for our cab the staff said they misunderstood and thought we were waking at 4 am not leaving at 4 am and the water was being turned back on then. Two quick notes, the same staff had arranged our 4 am taxi, I would assume they would no we couldn't wake and leave at the same moment. Also, the second half of our group left and hour later and still had no water! read more

My husband and I went to Ireland for our honeymoon and were quickly disappointed. The hotel is definitely not a castle, just bits and pieces of the castle have been kept. We were given a "queen" size bed but once we got into bed we noticed our "queen" bed was really just two twin beds zipped together. The bed was not comfortable, I woke up with an achey back every morning. Also, the hotel is kind of in the middle of no where. To get to the city center you'll have to walk about 15 minutes to get to the bus stop and take a 15 bus ride into the city. The restaurants in the hotel are only open during specific hours so it made it very hard to plan meal times when trying to do other activities. Although there are three restaurants in the hotel, breakfast is served as buffet only. The receptionists at the front desks were always helpful in helping us get around Ireland. I'm definitely glad to be home and would not recommend this hotel to anyone! read more

First off, don't book a room here thinking your actually staying in a castle. It's basically a hotel built around an old castle. The first thing I noticed was lack of parking. The hotel does have a large car park, but when they host functions, it fills quickly. I settled to a spot down the street. Check-in was smooth, staff friendly. The room was nice, and had a huge bathroom. Our bed was super comfy and had a nice thick duvet. The flat screen was nice, but the entertainment system was a bit lacking. Not much for movie choices. The room was clean, and noise was minimal. We did have a problem with the internet working, the codes were supposedly good for 24 hours, but only worked for a few at a time. The only other problem was had was trying to order room service. It took over 10 minutes of trying to call before someone finally answered. However, once we got through, service was very fast. This hotel is a little on the dear side for what you get, but overall it was a nice stay. I'd stay here again. read more

If I could give this hotel more than 5 stars I would. I'm starting a petition to be able to award 10 stars! We already had a reservation to stay at Clontarf for the last day of our family Ireland vacation, we wanted to treat ourselves to some luxury on the last night of our trip. Our AirBnB booking for the first three mights of our vacation turned into a nightmare (i.e. electrical fire in the kitchen) and we were left looking for a place to stay at 10pm. The nearest hotels were all booked, and knowing it was a long-shot I called the Clontarf. The vacation gods were on our side because Robert at the front desk found us two rooms in this gorgeous castle hotel. A last minute cancellation by someone else saved our vacation. I thought that was as good as the night could get, but no, the staff still had tons to deliver. The greeting we got as we pulled in at 11pm was nothing short of incredible. The happy faces of Tina and Robert welcomed us to our shining oasis. They checked us in and made sure we had everything we needed to find comfort after a hellish evening. We went from a frantic family trying to stop a light switch from burning a house down to a calm and incredibly grateful family sipping cocktails in the glimmering hotel bar at 1130pm. The next morning the front desk manager (I'm ashamed I can't remember her name) kept the parade going by confirming our rooms for that night and promising to do her best to find us space the night after in their fully booked hotel. And can you believe it, cancellations and early check-outs happened and we got one more night. Completely covering the three nights we were displaced from our other booking. While we're so excited to continue our journey around the Emerald Isle; we're going to miss this place so very much. But we're checking back in for our celebratory last night in just 10 days and we can't wait! read more

This is a top notch hotel and our favorite from our entire travels through Ireland. From the second we walked up to the reception area and were greeted by smiling, pleasant and helpful reception staff, it was clear from the beginning that they would go out of their way to help us with whatever we needed. I personally love the fusion of modern rooms with antiquity of the castle. The room itself was the cleanest room with the most comfortable bed of all our stops in Ireland. We ended up spending WAY more time inside the hotel than we initially planned because of hurricane Ophelia, everything we had planned in Dublin was closed. The concierge was nice enough to call around a few places to see if they were open but unfortunately no success. We made the most of it lounging in the large reception area by the fire, the more private seating area outside the Knights bar, and even on some of the vintage looking chairs located in common areas on the other floors. The Knights bar had surprisingly good food and attentive wait staff. overall our stay here was better than expected which is always a nice surprise! read more

Fantastic. Service was impeccable. Room was huge, clean and very nice. The castle itself is great, full of history. The Knights Bar in the castle/hotel is an excellent pub with great food and good and creative cocktails. The full Irish breakfast in the mornings was fantastic, by far the best we've had in Ireland between our different visits. The only thing that Could be improved was the strange shower in the room, although I think this is a European thing and not so much specific to this hotel. It is a nice Castle feel with all of the modern amenities of a nice hotel. read more

Overall a beautiful hotel with a great look and feel of an updated castle but not worth the price premium.. The staff was very friendly and helpful, the rooms were clean and very nice, however both nights we stayed there were wedding receptions that ran beyond 1am with very loud music. The first night was bearable since we were on the second floor, but we had to move to a room on the first floor the second night and my wife could not sleep at all. One other annoyance was the breakfast situation, although the food was very good, we had pre paid for our room and I was under the impression that breakfast was included in the cost (which apparently it was for the first night). When being seated for breakfast and being checked in, there was no indication that there was a cost until we checked out. It would be nice if they would inform you that there is an extra fee for breakfast, at least when being seated. read more

The Castle is very beautiful both inside and outside. The staff is very helpful and friendly. We had them call us taxis every day and did visit the Knights Bar while here. The rooms are nice and a good size, the bathrooms clean and the shower has good pressure. The toiletries they provide in the bathrooms are by an Irish artisan and are very nice. Each day we took the soap and put it in our bags to see how many refills they'd give us. They serve breakfast in the hotel every morning and its buffet style serving both Irish and American style breakfasts. You can pay per day (via charge to your room) or you can buy the package with breakfast included on expedia. Breakfast begins at 6:30 on weekdays and 7:30 on weekends, which if you plan on going on any all day tours you may miss. Now onto the negative- the hotel is located in Clontarf, which is outside Dublin and a bit far from anything to do in the city. The shuttle they have doesn't go to any sights. They don't have a pool. They hold a lot of weddings here, which means wedding guests everywhere filling the lobby, smoking area, and lounge. When we were staying here there was a wedding on Thursday night and they played music long into the night which could be heard from our second floor room on the other side of the hotel. The next night there was a party and even more music. For this reason alone I would not recommend this hotel. You will not get to sleep because of all the weddings! We were exhausted all week because of the inability to sleep. They also promised movie channels on the tvs, but there were none. I asked about movies and they said sorry we just changed our tv service and no longer have movie channels. Theres no ice machines or vending machines- but they will provide ice through room service and they do have a minibar that they will charge you for. There is no mini-shop in the hotel and I did not ask if they have items such as toothbrushes at reception. I have not seen the concierge on duty at all, but the receptionists have been very helpful. read more

I greatly enjoyed my 10 day stay at the Clontarf Castle Hotel during the end of July 2018. I would recommend to anyone and already have at work and with family. The staff incredibly friendly, professional and helpful. I especially want to thank Arjun, a front office supervisor who went above and beyond in his professionalism, knowledge and help. I also want to thank Rachel for combining my original 3 reservations into one before i arrived via email. I wish I good remember everyone's name because they all were fantastic staff and service. The hotel and my room were both beautiful and comfortable. The Knights Bar had delicious food and drink and wonderful & courteous staff, including David, Thea and Aaron and the managers and other bar staff. Breakfast buffet also had delicious food and very courteous staff. Again too many positive staff and experiences to remember. I especially picked Clontarf Castle Hotel because I didn't want to be in the heart of Dublin all the time: there are so many beautiful sites to see even outside of the urban area. Also after a day of running around and exploring in and out of Dublin, it was refreshing to be able to wind down in a more residential and suburban area. Clontarf Castle Hotel is perfectly situated between Dublin city center (not far at all, maybe 10-15 minute by cab) and the wonderful seaside town of Howth, which with this great 2018 summer Irish weather, made for one of my best travel experiences. I was able to get a more complete Dublin experience than most travelers. I know of some co-workers who visited Dublin who never made it out of the Temple Bar area or north of the Liffey River, which is a shame really. As another reviewer mentioned rail, bus and cab options are available nearby if you do not rent a car. The staff will help you with any of the options. I found Clontarf Castle Hotel to be one of my very best travel experiences ever. read more

As a disclaimer I would like to say my husband and I never were able to stay at this hotel despite walking into the hotel with our reservations all booked to our knowledge. When we arrived at the hotel and attempted to check in and the guest relations was called and they told us other people who came before us had more in their party than expected and the hotel gave our room to theirs. They told us they contacted another hotel for us to stay at and basically it felt like wiped their hands clean of us. They offered us food on the house at their restaurant but we declined because who wants to eat when they are furious?! They told us to stay at a hotel 20min away back in the direction we had originally come from during our travels. So after driving since 7am and getting into Dublin at 5pm we had to go back through Dublin again during rush hour to get to the new hotel with a beyond basic room and have to pay 12.50 for parking each night while we are here at the new hotel when the clontarf castle hotel has free parking. We were not notified about the rooming situation on the email we gave for setting up the reservation it would have been nice to have been at least been notified before trekking through Dublin only to be sent away! We have been traveling throughout Ireland for two weeks now on our honeymoon and have never encountered this before and we hope to never again! read more
