Since my original review in 2012, I have frequented Clooneys since. I have met some nice folks (alot of younger regulars) who come in on days off. I have experienced seeing rowdy behavior and a couple of possible physical fights but it is still what is known as a dive bar but with a lot of personality. One of the newest bartenders has already 86'd a handful of folks for offenses as minor as the use of expletives (specifically the f-bomb) when talking to others. The other night, she made a guy leave because, when he was rolling dice, a single die fell off the bar and onto the floor. He was embarrassed and apologized and she made him leave anyway. The funny thing is, this gal regularly bakes up cannabis-infused rice krispy treats, sticks them on a sharp knife, and serves them to patrons. Kind of bizarre that someone so quick to take action against patrons is leaving herself in jeopardy. read more

The bartender took my real ID and made me call the cops to get it back. Last night my friends and I decided to go out to a bar. We picked this place because it's across from my friends apartment. I was the first one to walk in and show my ID. He proceeds to look at it for a few seconds, bends it and accused me of being underaged and I have a fake!!! he then says "you have two choices to either leave and i take your fake Id, or you call the cops to get it back." Mind you I am 22 and born in 2003. I called the cops and waiting outside with my friends and he proceeds to cuss at us to leave. He was obviously under the influence. My friends and I were extremely disappointment with his service. After the cops got involved and told him that it's illegal to bend and take someone's ID, I tried to get the managers email or number. He deny's giving me any information other than his name is Dan. I will later be making a police report to this bar. Do not go here. read more

Went to Clooney's pun for St Patrick's day and had a pretty good time. The vibes were nice and the drinks were reasonably priced. However, when I arrived, it took me almost 20 minutes to actually order my drink. This wasn't because of a huge crowd, but because the two bartenders were ignoring me when I tried to get their attention. I was then told by another patron that the baristas were changing shifts, which is why they were ignoring me (because they weren't taking orders). I would have appreciated hearing that directly from the bartenders instead of someone else. I was then approached by one of the bartenders after she had left the bar, and she apologized to me, which I really appreciated. It was frustrating though watching them ignore me and yet serving other regulars. It was a pleasant neighborhood bar, but I'm not sure if I'll come back unless I'm trying to go around to multiple neighborhood bars. There are better dive bars in the area that are a little more welcoming towards newcomers. Another warning to ladies, but some of the regulars can also get a little touchy (touching your waist as they try to get around you), which is uncomfortable. I've heard this from other women who had gone to the bar once or twice. read more

My go to Saturday night hang out. Mostly to chat with Monty the bartender. Always smiling and upbeat, even when the crowd can be a wee bit hard to deal with at times from his perspective. (Some folks just don't know how to behave correctly). The thing is, you can't miss the fact that he bartends, provides security, keeps the environment friendly and safe, and is the janitorial staff as needed. Clooney's is a classic San Francisco dive bar, a dive bar that is rapidly disappearing from our fair city, being replaced by overpriced theme bars. They have a great beer selection and TVs with games on and a decent jukebox. I recommend going on Saturdays, when Monty is tending the stick. He is quick and attentive yet always friendly. The crowd can look rough, as dive-bar crowds generally look, but the Clooney crowd is mellow. Young white folks might be disturbed by the diversity, but pay them no heed: they'll find solace in the Marina. read more

Per the review of Sarah F. 8 days ago, I was a patron at the bar at the time the individual in question entered. I do not know the bartender, the only employee working at the time when Sarah F., aka "Karen Jr.", entered. Karen Jr. presented an ID, the bartender very politely declined her service as is his right and requirement to protect both the establishment by whom he is employed and himself. I do not believe it was a valid ID as it flexed like cardboard. Karen Jr. Immediately lost her mind. The bartender was polite and professional; he never once raised his voice nor cursed about the situation, much less did he direct any inappropriate language at Karen Jr. or her party. I exited very shortly after and politely suggested she contact local precinct to adjudicate the situation. She was immediately hostile, loud, and completely crass towards me while the rest of her party was quite polite. I believe her words to me were, "keep walking bitch!", stated twice. Were I amongst the friends in her party I would have been very much embarrassed as many of them appeared to be. Were Karen Jr. my child and I'd witnessed her exhibiting such manners, I would have given her vastly more than a stern admonition; her vehicle, allowance, phone, television, internet privileges, etc. would have been indefinitely suspended and I'd have marched Karen Jr. in to that bar to make a proper apology to an honest working man protecting both himself and the establishment that employs him. Whether this young woman is of age or not may be questionable. Her lack of manners and poor behavior in a neighborhood establishment is indubitably not acceptable. read more

Absolutely love this lil gem. Saw it on my way to my car after dinner and decided to went in for one drink. So glad I did. One drink turned into two if I didn't have to drive it probably would've turned into five Loved the whole vibe of this bar and the music. The bartender was my fave. This review is way overdue! Sure, fancy cocktail bars have their place in the city, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't more at home in a dive bar - there's nothing quite like it! That's why I keep coming back to Clooney's year after year. I'm usually here on Saturday nights when Monty is bartending. He's always got a smile on his face and will make anyone feel at home, whether they're a regular or if it's their first time. Not sure what you want to drink? That's no problem, he'll come up with something that's exactly what you never knew you wanted. And he always makes sure that there's some great music playing on the jukebox. Oh, they even decorate the bar at Christmastime and turn it into a winter wonderland! To top it all off, Monty will make popcorn for the patrons, so nobody is drinking on an empty stomach. I lived above this bar for around ~5 years. Dan Lyons consistently made my life hell. Moreover, SFPD never came out or answered when I tried filing a noise complaint. Moreover, Dan is co-owner of the building meaning his incentive is to play music loud and disturb me. However, with the lack enforcement by SFPD I couldn't build a case. The entire bar is a scam. The tenders are nice to your face but lie about you. Whole operation is a bad place full of evil vibes. read more

I'm not one to leave reviews but had to create a Yelp account to warn people, especially women, to avoid this place. In addition to being ignored by the waitress for 35+ minutes despite there being no evident rush at the pub, there was a rowdy group of people who were just plain bad energy. One elderly guy was definitely a touchy Tom to patrons who passed by his seat... but no one said anything? Is this what dive bars are known for? When I did finally get service, the waitress was super short with me but being friendly with the other patrons. Seems like a cliquey, "locals only" spot. I am writing this review strictly for my very favorite person/bartender Monty. I was never much of a person that hung out at bars. I found them to be for one purpose and one purpose only, to get drunk. I went there on a Saturday night with a friend, feeling out of place. Monty immediately caught on to that.
