When combined with other coupons, such as a 30% off coupon, and then again combined with a sale (buy one package of socks, get the second package for 50% off), a shopper can receive a much better value than purchasing the same items from Amazon, etc. In this case, my items cost $3.50 each, whereas they were selling on Amazon for more than twice that amount. However, if I wasn't already in the store, I would not have bothered. The customer service line was at least 10 people deep, the checkout line was about 20 people with only two registers open, the merchandise displays were a disorganized mess and their wifi went down for a short time (so they couldn't take returns or process purchases). He looked through clothing tags and racks as though he were shopping, even though he clearly had a Target name tag on. It was clear that he was not organizing, he was lingering near me and monitoring what I was doing. I can't say for certain what motivated his behavior, but as a visibly melanated man with tattoo sleeves on both arms, I couldn't ignore the possibility that my appearance played a role. Whatever the reason, the experience made me feel targeted, uncomfortable and unwelcome. No customer should have to wonder whether they're being followed simply because of how they look.
