Paid Closet by Design $7933.50 for a custom closet. The installer from closet by design attempted to repair holes in the wall after removing the old closet rails with spackle creating damage to the walls now requiring a full repair of the attempted repair of spackle applied. A painter came out and he gave us an estimate of $1894.05 to repair the damage and paint the walls caused by the Closet by Design employee/installer. The manager of Closet by Design came to our home to look at the damage and offered to try to clean the spackle with a Home Depot bucket and water which did not work. The painter that came out outlined the only way to fix the issue in his scope of work, which requires sanding, repair, texture and paint. Closets by Design refussed this proposal. The final offer from them is to come back with their Home Depot bucket and water and try again. The professional painters estimate outlines the correct way to repair the damage. Closet by Design now refuses to correct the damage to a professional standard- Contract language- Terms and Conditions- Closets by Design does not paint or repair walls. Closets by Design is not responsible for damage to walls, floors, or ceilings caused by demolition or tear out or your existing closets. Repair work on walls, plater, painting, floor finishing is the responsibility of the client. The contract also states, if you (client) want to patch and paint before installation, the required tear out and patching and painting must be done at least 48 hours before installation to ensure all surfaces are dry and ready (we did not due this, and Closets by Design did the removal of the previous rails). We just want the damaged repaired to a professional standard that they created. They should of not tried to repair the walls which created a bigger issue for repair. What should of been simple small holes that we could fill in with a color match fill left after instalation, now requires a full wall repair. read more

Worst outcome with this company, Go literally anywhere else. I paid $3700 for the attached video and photos. Very small reach in closet. My expectations I felt were realistic as they are working with the space they had, so a small reach in closet, but custom, aesthetic to match the room when remodel was finished. When completed it was not against the wall, nothing is even, gaps everywhere. It doesn't come to the ceiling so not entirely sure what their measurements were for. The depth is really weird. All the examples online show the shelves holding shoes. I wear size 7.5 woman and he front of y shoes ( see pic) hang off the shelf don't fit. They had so much more depth to work with and come out farther, I don't know why my shelves are so skinny it cant hold an average size shoe. Paid extra for a "valet rod" none installed that comes out. None installed. This was an investment for me and pretty devastated. For the same look I could have spent at worst 450 for those Ikea type closet organizer systems. And just placed it against my closets wall to have this same look. Ironically, as shown in photos, Some old hanging cabinets in our laundry room from the 70s have the identical same and style of the sides of this brand new 3700 closet I tried to make wise decision based off of their consultation design and the fact that I was paying 1600 MORE than other quotes. I was thinking you pay for what you get and I want the built into my closet, custom fit measurement no shortcuts for this. We're tearing it all down and we'll see what kind of refund I'm offered. Had a fantastic experience with Closets by Design. They start off by going to your actual location at the initial consultation (all without strings attached, which impressed me). Obviously it's also to help them pitch their sale in-person, but I thought it was super helpful to work through the design and go through the entire process in just one home visit! At the end of the visit, we had the design ready _and_ an installation date set with their in-housec ontractor. Today, I got my shelves installed and I'm so happy! I had Michael B. as my contractor who finished installing the shelves today, and that was an over-the-moon experience. The entire process was enjoyable, and Michael was a joy to be around. Overall, super impressed with this company. Highly recommend :) (I got my coat closet turned into a pantry. Costed me around $2.3k, but I ordered the higher end finishes as well as a psuedo-marble counter top. Another Unhappy customer here. Just had our closet installed. We felt the workmanship does not equal the cost. Just to list a couple things that are not up to standard: Shelves and casing are not aligned or flush . They damaged my wall while installing the drawer unit. The drawer handles are not the correct type we had agreed on. There are huge gaps between the shelves and wall I could probably go on an on about the inferior workmanship. But I believe you get my point! Just to reiterate, We realized we paid way too much for the quality and workmanship of this closet as designed by this company. Future customers should look elsewhere and will probably save extra cash and frustration. read more

I received an invitation to report my experience with Closets by Design Tacoma. I tried several times to enter into the survey but my security system on my computer always identified the survey site as "dangerous." So I am responding directly. Regarding our purchase I was happy with the product and happy with the installation. Both the planner and the installers were professional but the planner was not very advisory. My source of unhappiness is that I feel I wasn't given the correct advice on the main closet during the planning process. After installation i realized that my hanging areas were at least 2-3" shorter than they should be, and the stack of drawers was one drawer too high, which further impacted my hanging area. We were trying to maintain use of an upper shelf and two lower drawers, but I feel like I should have been advised differently as to how that impacted my major desire which was increased hanging space. I feel like the amount of money I spent for that part of the project was not at all worth it. Our total refit was over $12,000, and that is after a 40% "discount" and free installation. I AM happy with the bathroom cabinet I requested which was a tall bureau of double drawers. However, I also wish I had more practical advice in that area too. When planning the drawers, he never once asked me how I planned to use them or advised me with better recommendations. I don't know that there's anything that can be done to rectify the closet issues. I feel the price, despite the 40% discount was extremely high and that we did not get the satisfaction I wanted to feel. read more

We moved into our house two years ago and the pantry had wire shelves which were very frustrating and dysfunctional for kitchen and food items. We also had vertical space to take advantage of so Closets by Design helps us solve our design needs, we even have a clear lucite faced drawers for pasta and crackers which looks aesthetically good and then you can also see what's inside the drawers. Was very pleased with the whole experience from the designer to the office assistant to the builder. Everyone was professional and friendly. The designer worked with me as long as was needed, the first night, and then continued to keep in contact until we had everything perfect. The builder was a hard working, polite gentleman. It was originally meant to be a 2 person job, but his coworker called in sick. He worked long hours to finish the job in one day without any complaint or negativity. This is the first contract job I've dealt with that hasn't damaged something around their work area. He treated our home with respect. We got a very good deal with the company, working hard to meet our budget as close as they could. I'll admit I only usually write reviews when the experience is bad. This is not the case today. My husband Mike and I had a wonderful experience from start to finish. Our master closet is so ridiculously small. Jordan came out and she designed a closet that utilized our weird corner angles to use every available once. Once the installation team came out, we weren't happy with one of the corner shelving units. I felt there was some wasted space. The team came out a week later with a revamped design and new units and it is now absolutely perfect. I couldn't be happier. We 100% recommend this business and their team. We felt a little pressure to make a decision at the end of our consult/design appointment so that we could have an extra discount. This also meant that the only visual of the product we had to base our decision on was drawn up on graphing paper instead of a 3-D rendering that other companies were able to provide us. Because of this, I was not able to properly visualize how much hanging rod space I would have, and now I wish I had more. The good things about this company are that they're local, honest, and mean it when they say they will add you to their waiting list to be moved up for installation! They were able to move up our original installation date(s) by two weeks, which we appreciated because we had NO CLOSET. The installers came in with masks and were very tidy. They responded quickly but then took a week to respond back with ideas and quotes (after 4 days I had to ping them to ask when we would get a response). When they came back, they had some unprofessional sketches that was not what we discussed when they originally came (it was obvious they did not listen to what we wanted). Closet rods were installed today. Mike called me last week to follow up re our project. He worked to track the items. He also shared that the courier could not locate the items, so they paid additional money (at no cost to me) to have the items expedited. We were hoping that they would come in last Tuesday or Wednesday, but they did not. The subsequent day was Thanksgiving. I received a text this morning (Monday), letting me know that the install tech was on their way. If you read my previous text, you'll see that I was originally told they would come today. Mike went above and beyond to communicate. In my original post, I express my satisfaction with nearly the entire process--there was just one small mishap. I appreciate NWCbD working to correct that small detail by communicating. That's also a sign of great business service--working to make things right. You can't go wrong with this company. After having our master closet wire rack fall for the second time, we decided we need another solution. After getting a couple quotes (and finding out the wait time for the other companies), we were thrilled to have found Closets By Design. Arian came into our home, waded through our messy closets and drew up proposed solutions there and then. We went through couple options, talked through pricing and we were able to schedule an install date (less than 2 months away). I appreciate Arian's direction with the design and her advice on patching up the walls before install. She was quick in putting together her drawings but was patient when we waffled on our decisions. The day before install, they emailed us to let us know what to expect. The two masked men that came in to install the closets took the two days they had anticipated. We are so happy with the work they did (master + three bedroom closets) and love how organized and spacious our closets are. I have a very small laundry room that had only wall shelving for storage which left all objects visible; as much as I tried to hide things inside baskets or bins, it still looked cluttered. Closets by Design came up with an excellent plan that included 2 large wall cabinets and an adjacent broom closet. At first some of the measurements were off, so they completely removed and replaced the wall cabinets and broom closet at no extra charge. After the final installation, I decided I needed more interior shelving. The company gave me the same reduced pricing for the 4 extra shelves. This was my second closet project they did for me.. I'm happy with the outcome again. It's important to work diligently with the designer so your expectations are met...if you have slacks or longer hanging articles make sure those measurements are accounted for in your design so when you move into your new closet everything fits. I had to move a drawer down to let my slacks free hang on my custom hangars. Some of the holes on the vertical panels for the adjustable pins were chipped, not really noticeable but their tooling was getting dull and / or their production speed was rushed. I had Closets By Design out to quote to refit my primary closet, expecting the cost to be high but was pleasantly surprised! I went for a simple design but had money left in the budget for some upgrades in finish. The closets were ready for installation about 4 weeks after I placed the order. We had a tiny snafu with the measurements but the installer got it solved really quickly and was able to get the installation completed the same day. He was great - very neat and did a great job. He had to remove part of my window trim and the baseboards and he did a wonderfully precise job. I love my new closet - it's maximized the space and more than doubled my hanging space.
