My fur baby, Zuri, has been seeing Dr. May for a little over a year and half now. I'm thoroughly…read morepleased with her elite care of my baby. Little history: Zuri is an IMHA (Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia ) survivor/rockstar warrior. She started seeing Dr. May approx. 3 weeks after a week long stay at the hospital, where she had 6 blood transfusions. The hospital did a phenomenal job, but when Zuri was released, her red blood cells count was still gravely low. Her case was very aggressive. Zuri was on a few medications to help her, but I knew that Zuri would need someone highly skilled. So, I did some research about internal medicine vets in NJ and found Dr May. Best decision ever! Dr. May meticulously monitored Zuri's health over several long months, always answering/addressing my many questions/ concerns, finally weaning Zuri off of her IMHA meds entirely. By the time, Zuri was off of her meds with great values, I was ready to cease the monthly visits because Zuri was doing great, and I was 100pct comfortable with Dr. May's plan. She got Zuri that far! It was a beyond scary time for me, and Zuri had been through a lot. But, Dr. May and everyone from the assistants to the front desk at Animal Care of Oradell made the overwhelming experience better. Everyone always answered my MANY questions!! It's even the little things like being engaged by Sherry at the front desk, who is always very friendly, helpful, and responsive. It doesn't escape me that she would engage me to maybe make me smile or laugh...to just relax a bit, especially earlier on when I was a nervous wreck. Fast forward to this year, Zuri was doing so well that she really just needed to get an annual done. And, it was during this visit, Dr. May noticed that Zuri's kidney function was off. She had Zuri undergo a few studies, and it was determined that Zuri has kidney filtration (protein losing nephropathy) as well as high blood pressure issues, but it was caught very early. And, since being put on a couple medications, Zuri's levels are looking really good. Btw, during this time, Zuri never displayed any signs that she was ill. Again, this is a testament to Dr. May's diligence and care. I've written enough, but since I never got around to writing one last year, I figured a lengthy review is appropriate. :-) I wholeheartedly recommended Animal Care of Oradell.

He always tells you the truth whether you're willing to accept it or not. He doesn't sugarcoat anything and that's what you want to hear as a customer. He is extremely knowledgeable, and takes the time to explain everything to you regarding your pet. His staff are always helpful and make the experience more friendly than other vets do. It's very clean as well. As long as he operates, we will continue to bring our animals to him whenever the need arises. Thank you always for your bedside manner and professionalism!

I lost my dog on April 26--just two days after surgery--due to cardiac arrest. I had been told he was recovering, so this outcome was shocking and devastating to me and my family. He passed away in an oxygen cage at the hospital, without his family present. What makes this even more difficult is everything that led up to it. About six months earlier, he developed a dry cough and gagging that progressively worsened. In early 2026, I brought him in for evaluation and was primarily seen by Dr. Hartwick. After exams and bloodwork, I was told it was possibly a virus from daycare, and he was sent home with antibiotics and cough medication. His condition did not improve. As his symptoms became more frequent and more concerning in March, I made multiple attempts to follow up and discuss next steps. I was unable to reach her and did not receive callbacks during that time despite my messages. Eventually, another doctor contacted me a few days later and advised continued monitoring. From my perspective, there was a concerning lack of urgency, follow-through, and continuity of care during a period when his condition was clearly deteriorating. By April 23, his breathing had worsened to the point where he could barely breathe, and he was admitted for surgery. He passed away two days later. Given how his symptoms progressed and the difficulty I had getting timely responses, it's hard not to question whether earlier intervention, more proactive care, or clearer guidance could have made a difference. I felt a lack of compassion and awareness that I did not expect. I would not feel comfortable relying on this hospital for situations that require attentive medical care, timely communication, and close follow-up.

Also what a B S from this place not letting the owner in with the dog. Covid it's over!!! Why can I go in with my dog when she is being treated? Dr Howel was the best and I am sorry he's not there anymore. From 1 to 10 I'm giving this place a ZERO

"Low normal" And that was the cause for regurgitation of my french bulldog. Fast forward my dog has classic Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome (BOAS) and has blockage so much so, his oxygen levels are 98%. So in addition to $1600 bill to receive 3 thyroid disorders as diagnoses , not anatomical! Now we have surgery with a new vet. To hopefully let him eat and breathe without struggling Be careful, these are pets that we love. I wouldn't utilize this Veternarian. Dr. also has an ego Complex and forgot it's not about her or me, the dog is what matters. Run Just a paying customer!

Dr. McCaffrey was referred to us and she immediately came to assess the situation. She ran some tests and advised us how to properly care for our cat until the results came back. Then Dr. McCaffrey suggested we try a course of treatment, nothing crazy or invasive to the cat. The receptionist said yes and I asked after the FOA Certificate what is my expense. Her reply $310.00, great I'm thinking. I bought the FOA Certificate for $180.00 made a donation of $20.00 and with the 310.00 for the vet bill that's $510.00 which is half of what other vets were asking. I make the appointment, bring my baby and certificate. I give her the certificate and the other girl my baby and the receptionist says wait while I get the ESTIMATE from the Dr. I'm like what estimate, it's supposed to be $310.00 plus FOA Certificate. She hands me a bill for $976.00. I said, we spoke you gave me a price of $310.00 and the FOA Certificate. Her reply "do you want the cat and certificate back". I'm like no I want what price you quoted over the phone. She just stood there. So, I guess they don't work with FOA and get you in there and charge full price. I had to go to work and paid the bill. Later she, the receptionist called and the price was dropped to $796.00 plus the FOA Certificate. When I got to Emerson Animal Hospital after work I asked to speak to the vet, but he would not come out and speak to me. I took my baby and went home. I had also requested before I got the estimated bill to please trim my baby's nails thinking somewhere around $7. or $8. dollars, but no it was $30.00. That ridiculous. This place is a scam. Tell us one price and jack it up and charge another. I have informed FOA what has happened and I hope they check into Emerson Animal Hospital ASAP.
