In previous visits she provided medication at no cost through her Mother's foundation Wanuza Penheiro Cruz Animal Care; even providing a package of chicken breast from her refrigerator! I have never been to this Vet before, I have 2 miniature schnauzers. Apparently after going to a barbecue on Labir Day my oldest dog (12yrs) must have eaten something that made him sick. In Tuesday, he pooped all over the house, he was lethargic and just kept pacing. I tried to get an appt with our regular Vet but he was completely booked, I called an Animal hospital we had used before for and emergency and they said come Friday. I called Demarest Vet and got an appt for the early afternoon with Dr Muller. She was outstanding. She got on the floor with my dog, gave him a very thorough exam. She gave him IV fluids, an antibiotic shot and an anti-diarrhea shot. She sent us home with meds and said to call immediately if he worsened. Great care, can not recommend her enough!!!! read more

My little puppy Simba is my son and she treats him like he is her own dog. A vet and staff (yes staff) that really cares. It is so hard to find a vet that that really loves their job and to be treated like a person, not a $. Dr. Rivero came recommended by the pet store and I cross the GW bridge to see her. Dr. Rivero and her staff saved by puppy's life from an aggressive Demodex Mange infection that two other doctors laughed us out of their office when I mentioned his hair loss. What a horrific experience!! Boarded my dog for less than 48 hours. Upon picking him up he had an enormous deep gash right below his right eye. Dr. Rita Rivero did not even call or tell us about it when my husband picked up the dog. She just handed him the dog and said goodbye. When he questioned her how he got that deep gash she claimed to not know. She went on to say that "he probably did that to himself with his paw". Really? To think a veterinarian would say something so ridiculous. She was not even the slightest bit apologetic or the least bit concerned. Attached is a picture. Kozmo was my first cat ever and he became ill in October. Being from Fort Lee I went to a local vet. Our 1st visit was upwards of $500 followed by unnecessary test I was told were needed. Luckily my neighbor highly recommended Dr. Rita Rivero. I made an appointment immediately. Dr. Rivero loves animals and is a cat specialist. She ran some tests and when we received the bill for several tests it was a fraction of what we had paid the other Vet. Her treatment was amazing for she didn't suggest any extreme measures but explained that at 13.5 years old Kozmo was experiencing common maladies for a cat his age. She held our hand when explaining how to give him antibiotics and special prescription food. And when it was time to let Kozmo go she could not have been more gentle and kind. Dr. Rivero often performs procedures for rescue animals as well as continues to rescue and heal the animals that need her free of cost in many cases. Her energy and demeanor is exactly what you would want it to be when your animal babies get sick. She also sells various medications and Prescription Diet food at a fraction of what the large pet chains charge. Everything about my experience with her was so,positive and I felt compelled to write this review and share with fellow pet lovers my experience. Once I'm ready to get a new kitty Dr. Rivero and her amazing staff will be the only place I go for my pets medical needs. Simply put, they are the best. read more

Dr. Rivero has a casual, easy going manner, but the thing I appreciate most is that she is excellent at diagnosing. She has availability during weekends and holidays and can always be reached by phone. I have gone elsewhere and ended up paying a fortune and my pets were not properly evaluated. Sometimes you have to wait a longer time, because she is by herself, but I feel she is very easy to talk to and I like the personal feel. read more

Dr Rita Rivero is the most compassionate Veterinarian I have ever met. I have had to see her twice recently to put my beautiful 17 year old cats to sleep, just months apart. Both times I called her after hours and both times she answered immediately. She met me on a day when her office is typically closed. She spoke to my whole family while we held our little loved ones and praised us for being such loving cat parents. She made what were two very difficult times just a little more bearable. When I picked up my pets ashes, she presented us with a clay paw print that she had made. She is a wonderful Veterinarian and an even better person. About 11 years ago, our cat Dennis almost died. We found him hiding in our basement, the cause of his pain was due to being unable to urinate. We phoned Dr. Rivero of Demarest Vet and she told us to bring Dennis in immediately. She diagnosed the problem and after a successful operation, Dennis has been well. Recently we took Dennis in for a checkup. Dr. Rivero discovered he is experiencing the beginning stages of diabetes. Dennis is doing well with prescribed insulin and Dr. Rivero's care. If you find Dr. Rivero's office busy, that is an excellent indication that Dr. Rivero is in demand. We find her compassion, flexibility and knowledge are extremely rare. It's not the same anymore. Wait is 1-1.5 hour minimum. I loved this place because of their reasonable prices, but they've raised prices too. On our last visit we didn't even see Dr Rivero; another vet examined our dog. We weren't even asked if its okay with us to see someone else (it was a follow up visit on the previous problem). And when they charged $70 for one combo vaccine, that was it for me. Unfortunately, a lot of positive reviews ruined this place. Not going back anymore. Not the same positive experience. read more

Hi! I've recently found Dr. Rivero. What a fantastic, caring vet! Her staff is equally as caring and knowledgable. Ed and Buket work in the office and are wonderful with pets. I had an AWFUL experience. Besides the office being really gross and smelly the right quarters makes it difficult to sit in the waiting room. I was told by the vets that work there that I shouldn't walk my dog as he is a big breed ( bernese) and it's bad for his joints .. He needs exercise he is a DOG a working dog too!! They also tried to get me to give all the vaccines in the same day including rabies which I asked them NOT to do. Their vet techs are decent but can't even help you hold your dog while they receive shots from the doctor and an exam. Disappointed at the downhill turn this establishment took. read more

Dr. Rita Rivero is absolutely a gift from heaven. This doctor came to my aid when no other animal caretaker, well known hospital, or facility would. Being an 18 year old girl with only babysitting money as my income and parents who do not see animals the way I do, I was freaking out with endless tears as I held a small cat with a completely open paw and maggots running within it. I called the local animal shelter and the man immediately told he the cat was going to be put down and I knew I had to avoid this with all that was in me. So I called a few animal carers that I know and none offered to take the cat in. I then called Oradell Animal Hospital and they said they would not take the cat in if I could not pay the bill. Absolutely sobbing at this point I finally called the last vet number my friend had given, Demarest Veterinarian and Dr. Rivero listened to a few of my words and immediately said I could bring the cat in. The cat is now in her care and will be treated and put up for adoption at no charge. I cannot being to express my appreciation for this doctor. She has the kindest heart and helped when no one else would. I rarely write reviews but I had to today as I came home and started crying at how amazing it was to find one of the few good people in this world. She is so amazing and has even opened a foundation for this cause under her mother's name, to help with stray animals and such who have no where else to go. It is called Wanuza Pinheiro Cruz Animal Medical Care Foundation. I donated what I could from my pocket, but please, pleaseeeeeee help this amazing woman out. Her dream is to open a hospital for the same cause. She did not ask me to say this I promise, but any donation will help. We need people like this in the world!!!!!!!!! Dr Rita Rivera is a living angel for pets! She is an excellent vet who combines compassion and dedication with expertise. My 12 year old cat, "Twisty" had been losing a lot of weight rapidly while eating ravenously 3times per day! I took him m in to see Dr. Rita and she diagnosed Diabetes! Since Twisty is an elder cat and I am a single , working mom with a crazy schedule and 2 college age kids staying with me , Dr Rita went out of her way to show all of us how to administer insulin safely .She met us at her office twice at 10:30 pm to Accomodate my work schedule and handle this emergency! Then she offered to monitor our cat at her offices , to make sure his blood sugar stabilized.! I don't know any other Vet who would extend themselves to this degree!
