1 star review due to their HORRIBLE customer service. I was told I need to put a 20$ deposit to try on items form the mannequins since this was a new rule that the "owner" made up. If you don't purchase the item, you lose your 20$. I was told that they can remove items from the mannequin ONLY if I guarantee that I was going to purchase the item or by putting a 20$ deposit! I have never in my life been told to put a deposit down to try on clothes since the purpose of owning a store is to sell your inventory, yet I was not allowed to buy or try on items from the mannequins. This was ridiculous! After explaining that I want to purchase the item on the mannequin since I knew the size would fit me, that is when they took it out the mannequin. This whole process was really awkward since it shouldn't have occurred in the first place because as a customer I can purchase anything in the store. If they aren't going to allow customers to buy certain items then the owner/ front staff should NOT display it in store. Horrible shopping experience. Just go to the Turlock location instead of Modesto. If you're the owner reading this, please stop with that nonsense deposit. That's ridiculous. read more

I recommend this Store 100% ! As my daughters and I walked in we got greeted by 2 girls that had a big smile in their face ! They seemed very nice and with a positive attitude since the start! I was totally right about that !They greeted each and every customer walking in the same way as me and asked if we needed help finding anything ! The store was extremely clean and organized! The prices are fair ! I purchased over 15 items at a good price. I was there this Friday, shopping for something to wear for this Saturday and ended up shopping for more than I expected to shop for. I would definitely not recommend to come here only because of customer service. I used to love coming here because they carry a big variety of plus size especially for going out wear. Today I experienced what was unbelievable. As soon as I walked in I the girl said "just to let you know you can't do tryons " that's fine but a "welcome" would've been nice. I also asked if everything was a final sale because their tags read that you can exchange within 15 days. EVERYONE READ THOSE TAGS BECAUSE ITS ON EVERYTHING!! How is it a final sale if the tags say you can exchange???? Then at the end they basically told another customer and myself that we need to leave because they close at 7:30. I honestly did not know. I went in at 7:15. I didn't know they changed their hours. I was so dissatisfied. I visited this store with my wife and there were a lot of flea market brands and ghetto fab labels. Honestly... who wears southpole anymore??? That was in and out years ago.... It was cool that they had playboy, but when my wife looked up certified playboy distributors online, Clothes Ave wasnt on the list. I wonder where they get their clothes from? China? or maybe some knock off wholesaler? I guess the only Playboy distributor in the area is in Manteca... Top Fashions? I guess i'll have to take the wifee there. I cannot for the life of me get "Apple Bottom jeans, and boots with the furrrrr" out of my head when I see this place. WEAK!!! Really if your in the market for some of those deliciously ghetto fab jeans, this is the place to go. Other than that their stock consists of brands like Playboy, Southpole etc etc ... I actually went in to find a money bag for my best friend's wedding. Ended up finding a flower girl dress for my daughter, it had the smallest mark on the back beneath the sash so they discounted it. Yay! Walked out with a super cute white dress for about $30 after tax. Oh and even more embarrassing my 3 year old fell in love with the old school china flats, so I had to splurge $3. She wore the hell out of those puppies. For those two purchases alone, I shall give 2.5 stars, even though I'll probably never set foot in that store again. LOL read more

I took my daughter to Clothes Avenue to look for a prom dress. They had a lot of styles, but you could tell by the fabric and quality that they were cheaply made. With that said, my daughter found one that she really liked (she is very plain and doesn't like bling). One of the sales clerks offered to hold the dress at the cash register. I accepted and thanked her as we were still looking at a couple more dresses and shoes. When we finished I went to the cash register to purchase my items (shoes and the dress) only to find out that they had given my dress to another girl who was currently trying it on. Since it was the only Small they had in stock and the girl refused to give it up, they offered to call another store to locate the dress. They located the dress in Turlock and told me that they would have it delivered to the store on Monday. Prom is still a ways away, so I told them that was fine. However, they wanted me to pay for the dress up front. I told them that I was uncomfortable with that because since they had already screwed up this simple basic thing as holding the dress for me at the register, how would I know that I would actually get the dress that I paid for or if it would be damaged? The sales clerk said that she understood my concerns and that since it was her fault, she would have the dress delivered without payment and would call me. I receive a call the next day from Clothes Avenue stating that they located a dress in Clovis (what happened to Turlock????) and that I would need to come down to the store and pay for it before they would have it delivered. AMAZING..They just confirmed that AGAIN, they cannot get ANYTHING right so I am NEVER going to shop there again. My daughter found a much better dress at Macys for just $20 more and much better fabric and quality. read more

You know what, I think I was too harsh last time. The little girls' dresses are adorable. And I found basic layering tanks and tees (100% cotton) for $5. The girls that work there are super nice and friendly however the manager is probably the only rude one. She just always seems like she has a problem! This place stole ten bucks from me. Do not go there...or if you do, pay with cash money!!!! My debit card was charged twice for a pair of shorts that I bought at the McHenry location (the one going out of business). I noticed that the little girl behind the register was taking a very long time to run my card, but didn't think anything of it at the time. Several days later, I checked my acct. online and noticed they had run my card twice I immediately called the store and told them what had happened. I was told that I needed to bring a receipt in to get my refund. I told her that I didn't have it (I had thrown it out since the store isn't taking any exchanges or refunds due to its imminent closure). I demanded to speak with the manager, and was hung up on. I went into the store with a print out of my checking acct info clearly showing the double charge. I was first in line and told them what had happened, and that I needed to speak to a manager. the manager told me that I had to wait until she rang up some people behind me first. I flatly refused to wait. I showed her my proof, and told her that I believed I had been deliberately ripped off. I told her that I would take merchandise for the money or a refund immediately. She went into the back and came out and told me that their "accountant" says they have no record of being paid twice by my card (despite my clear evidence to the contrary). I got mad. I didn't yell, but I was fuming. She said that she couldn't help me (and she was raising her voice) and that the accountant said that maybe something would show up on their records within the next 48 hours. I doubt it, since they say they say that they just show the one debit currently, and my records clearly show that I was charged two times on the same day within minutes. My only recourse is to file a pile of paperwork with my bank and make a police report. My major complaint was how rude and unprofessional they were in handling this matter. I cannot believe they weren't astonished by their sales person's shadiness. They really just didn't seem to care....and there were a ton of clerks just standing around talking at the register. read more

I went in there yesterday. I had 2 ladies. One who said hello but was very non-friendly. An unkind. I had two items I purchased for my mother. Unfortunately there is no Avenue in Idaho. So by the time I received the item back. And after life happening sick toddlers. I was right past the 60-day Mark. I have my receipt. They refused to give me a refund which is fine but I wanted to do at least an exchange. They wouldn't let me do that. They said both the items were clearance for 13.97 and they couldn't even do an exchange. They were both rude and unkind I started to cry out of frustration. I told him what am I going to do with these clothes???And the manager was like well, "don't you know anybody. I'm like I don't know anybody. Look at me I'm not a plus size person." I told them I'm never stepping foot back in that place again. I called corporate. And I left a message with the Northern Division. The lady who's in charge I left a message yesterday and I have yet to hear from her. I will only change this review if they actually decide to do something about it. I'm considering calling Kurtis Channel 13 News and I'm also going to Tweet on it. I'm have enough of being bullied and being walked on. And I don't want them to do this to anybody else. All I know is I'm never shopping there again. And my mom shops there online as well as in the store when she comes to visit. And she will no longer be shopping there either. This isn't the first time. Something's Happened in this store. I have a friend that they were very rude to. And told her don't you realize you're not a plus size person what are you doing shopping here? She shops there for Mom but she stopped going because of how rude they were there. All I know is they have one of the worst customer services. As far as their returns or exchanges go than I have ever seen in my experience of retail. I agree with the other posts , this place is basically a flea market (which fine I expected that) I've visited both the Turlock and Modesto locations. While I give one star because this store was cleaner, and because my daughter found a cute dress for fairly cheap. But service was horrible the young girl that was helping us was rude! She told us we have to pay for the dresses if they got damaged trying them on(fine I can read the signs no big deal) but then she says only one at a time when they were the formal dresses again fine, except two other customers trying on the same kind of dresses and some the same dresses exactly as I was, and another was told two at a time and the other customer however many you want to take in. hmm.. strange. Then only ours was checked up and down.. fine but you wont find anything wrong! weird feeling.If they are that thorough then why are so many dresses damaged, and still on the rack without a discount?? I would have purchased more things here but after the service at this store I just went to a real bridal shop and was much happier. I think this store likes losing customers, and money. read more

I want to write about my experience as a customer shopping there for the first time. I had just recently purchased a dress that I had to order in another color. I was told by the stores manager Joanna and another fellow employee that for shipping its $15 extra on top of the sales price. But if you order 3 or more dresses from the same venue, the shipping is free for all the 3 purchases. So I thought ok, I will purchase my dress now and I had to order a children's dress, and ended up getting reimbursed for the child's dress, because after I ordered it a sales rep said the size I needed was unavailable after I made the order, which the manager that made the order should have told me the size was unavailable before I purchased it. When my sister came with me to order her dress and I had to pick up mine, we asked again about the shipping charge and the stores manager charged my sister her shipping on top of the sales price. My sister had to pay for her dress in total before they shipped the dress. I asked the manager again we are ordering 3 dresses and we shouldn't be charge shipping. And since my other sister could not make it because she lives so far to purchase the third dress, myself and my sister who purchased the second dress made the third order when my sister and I picked up her dress when it was available. I called the day before and explained the situation to a sales rep and she understood. As I once again explained it to Joanna the manager of the store, and made some lousy excuse and said: No, I came in and bought myself a dress. And I said: of course I have to shop for myself for my own dress and fitting, and my sisters have to shop there own fitting. She talked to me like I was a child and was very ignorant. And she told me No they can't reimburse us for the shipping, even though their policy of 3 or more order purchases from the same venue, shipping is free. They just wanted to make their sale and money. When my sister and I had to order the third dress for our sister, the manager Joanna told me rudely that she called me back and I did not answer... I promise to GOD my phone rang once and I considered she mistakenly called. she left no message. So when I seen her again for the third dress purchase, she told me: "I called you and didn't I see the missed call"....I told her: "yes I did, you didn't leave a message." Very Disrespectful to talk to a customer in that manner. I have a health concern I deal with on a daily basis that causes my body to flare up in pain. And it was a day of pain for me and I couldn't deal with her and the situation anymore. My sister tried to explain to her about how we purchased three $139 dress plus $15 shipping and how its only fair we get our shipping reimbursed, due to the policy. And she said we can't....But to be NICE...we got the third dress free shipping, WOW. The same day I wanted to exchange my shoes that looked used on the bottom and she said they have no other pairs... she probably lied not to sound mean... but at this point, I was done with the place and customer service I received. She took $6 off toward the shoes and put that toward the third dress. The store manager Joanna wasn't very kind. I felt ripped off and my sisters and I should of had our shipping free since we ordered (3) $139.00 dresses, and shipping is free from same venue three orders or more. read more

This is a fun place to check out occassionally. The prices are fairly reasonable. I will admit the clothes are for short-term wear and are not made to last for more than one season which doesn't matter because the place caters to current trends so the clothes last about as long as the trend does. So, in short, your getting inexpensive, trendy clothes, but don't expect classic staple pieces that are going to last. read more
